    Hi Fibro Friends,

Last night was awful. I was up all night with churning stomach pains. I had felt nauseous too, but didn't throw up. I finally went to the bathroom, and my bowel movement was all liquid. When I thought I was finished, I wasn't. I had one explosion after another. My stomach felt distended, puffed out, huge last night also. It was a rough night.

I slept most of the morning since I didn't sleep during the night. I have not gone out of the house all day, cause I am still having the stomach problems.

Do you think I could have Irritable Bowel Syndrome? I know many people who have FMS talk about it. This has NEVER been a problem for me. How can you tell the difference between IBS and a stomach virus? Can anyone recommend help? My head is hurting and my whole body aches. I feel like "crap"!

    Thanks!

    Cindy

    Hello Cindy

I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and was diagnosed about one and a half years ago. I have Fibro.

That is what I was going through before I was diagnosed and put on Zelnorm.

About a month ago I ran out of my prescription and kept forgetting to ask the doc for a new one. Well wouldn't youknow it I had the same things happen to me only I let them get out of hand and it has taken me quite some time to bring things back to normal. My one problem was eating fried foods or too much spices. I sure got heck from my doc.

It sounds like that is what you have so please do yourself a favour and see your doc before it gets really out of hand.

    Gentle Hugs

For years I thought I had IBS related to my FM. It turned out I have Crohn's Disease which is IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) a whole different animal!

If your joints are hurting and you have headache with your diarrhea, also skin sores you might want to see GI specialist.

    Hi Michelle and Rosie,

I went back to edit my piece 2x, cause I wanted the GREEN face next to my post. I got the face playing the guitar, not exactly what I feel like doing. I also wanted to check off the box to send the responses to me. Neither feature was able to be activated once I posted. Oh well.

Anyway, Thanks for responding. Do you think after ONE night of churning and uncontrollable liquid movements, I have IBS or IBD? How long did you have your symptoms before you were diagnosed? Did you both go to specialists or a regular intern for a diagnosis? What is the difference btwn. IBS & IBD?

Michelle, my body was aching all night. I had the chills and was HOT. My head has been throbbing all day. Having FMS has been quite challenging. I started with my knees and back in chronic pain. Each year, or every few months, I get new symptoms to add to my list of ailments. I was just hoping that this was a possible stomach virus or something temporary.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day, and I hope I am feeling better to be with my mother and my kids, so I can celebrate an important day. Today I stayed in bed, cause I was hurting and too weak to do anything else.

Any other information, concerning diet or length of time before a diagnosis can be made, would be helpful. Thanks.

Happy Mother's Day to you ladies, too! Hope you are able to enjoy.

    Best Wishes,
    Cindy

I had the diarrhea on and off for over a year, but I had the headache, eye pain and joint pain for 5 years prior to that, BUT since I had a FM diagnosis no one paid attention to this and thought it was IBS.

Then I just kept having flare-up after flare-up of uncontrollable diarrhea, which had blood in it that was not visible to the naked eye (found on blood tests, I was seriously anemic), and I ran these fevers, doctor gave me round after round of antibiotics which did not help.

I woke up one morning with sores all over body (found out later they are called erythema nodosum) and fused joints, could not move, called dr. he said "there is something autoimmune going on here" and send me to gastroenterologist who diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease specifically Crohn's. I spent 5 days in the hospital.

Now this was 8 months ago, and I had been healthy ever since then on immunosuppressor drugs, BUT just last week I had a flare and had to go back on steroids, I took it quite hard like it was a personal setback, even though I know it was not. Dr. gave me one week of steroids to see if we can push me back into remission.

I am willing to wager with one night of diarrhea you prob dont have IBD, maybe IBS, but I would keep watch on it if happends again, write down your symptoms and if it continues see the doctor.

So to answer your question I suffered in one way or another for 6 years b/f diagnosis, and I also had the FM symptoms too.

I hope you will be feeling better and it is just a flukey thing, we all get those from time to time. IBD sucks, there is no cure and it is progressive.

Oh you asked about diet too. I try to watch my sugars, I heard they are really bad for the gut, and my starches, I can have veggies as long as they are cooked, I have two (no more) good salads a week. I do drink coffee but I limit it. I drink no soda or other carbonated beverages, just plain water and juice. I don't eat dairy at all. Once in a blue moon I have a drink (maybe a margarita or something like that). The GI told me eat a lot of protein, I eat chicken, turkey and fish, people with IBD need 30 percent more protein than other people.

Happy Mother's Day, I read your bio, my daughter (17) has Asperger's also, what a small world. she will be starting college in the fall, I am petrified. High school was such a nightmare; I hope this will be different. she will have her own room at school, we were able to get a medical waiver for her.

Good luck let us know how you do.

    Michelle
