I guess I should also put in here that I have CFIDS/ FM as well. That is why I am asking this question in here.

I have chronic UTI's but this time I think I let it get out of control. I have an antibiotic that I started taking night before last but I feel so bad. I am aching all over and have a fever that won't go away. My kidneys were also hurting the other day but they seem to be hurting less now.
I don't have health insurance right now because I was approved for disability and might try to get some in January.
I was just wondering if any of you know when is the time to go to the ER and get IV antibiotics?
I am very sensitive to oral antibiotics because of my IBS and all of the other things that are wrong with me. Like I said I am taking oral antibiotics but I haven't felt this bad in a long time.
Thanks for any guidance you can give me!

Oh Lexy, a kidney infection is nothing to mess with. Go to an urgent care center at the very least - you shouldn't let those go untreated - especially if you have a fever and are feeling so badly. Your body is telling you something.

You were approved for disability but don't have access to health care?

Just for future reference - my Mom was getting frequent UTI's - she's diabetic and was just getting them too often and they would wreak havoc on her body, as would the medicine that was supposed to help her. We finally talked to her Dr. and got her on a preventative medicine - of course I'm going to screw up the name - something like macrobin (din?) - she hasnt' had one since.

If you need to go to the ER -go. Don't wait for someone to tell you to go. You don't want the infection to run rampant through your body.

It just makes me so angry this whole ins. thing and people not being able to get the care they need - sorry -

    Please take care of yourself!

    You need to get checked

If you have a kidney infection, you cannot wait

Especially if your back is hurting

Thanks so much for all of the encouragement and empathy. As you know that means a lot with this disease! You are talking about Macrodantin and I think I might be immune to it already. When I get insurance I am going to go to this specialist urologist that works with nerve and neuro problems.

As for the disability, yeah I am "making too much" HA! to qualify for the SSI and medicaid. You have to wait two years from the date of your first payment to get medicare. I am getting medication from the patient assistance programs and therefore can't have the insurance I did have because it has RX insurance and that knocks out my free and low cost meds. I know its crazy but you have to do what you have to do. It makes me mad too don't worry.

If I don't feel better tomorrow I will go to either the ER or an urgent care center. Thanks so much again.

I went to the ER and did have a UTI that was not any better despite me taking the antibiotics at home. They gave me a shot of rocephin to try to overpower the infection. I like that idea because that way it bypasses my gastrointestinal tract so I can take a stronger antibiotic that way.

Thanks for the responses from both of you. I am glad that I went so I can work on my finals.

Good luck with both finals and UTI..... be on the lookout for possible yeast or thrush from anti biotics.
