I don't know if its just me, or are a lot of you on a long list of meds? And how many specialists do you see? Friends and family advise me if I stop seeing the docs and stop taking the meds. that things will work themself out. I don't think so.

Can some of you let me know if you have a lot of doctors and take a lot of meds?

    Thanks.

    Tedebear,
Dont worry about all the meds you are on or the number of docs you see. Even if the docs are complete bozos, things wont just work themselves out if you stop seeing them! This DD is not something that just goes away if we ignore it. (Altho I really wish it was)
I am always amazed when people have sooo much advice on what I need or what I am feeling. How do they know?
Just do what you think works for you, and be kind to yourself :)
By the way I am on, hmmm wait have to go and count them...9 different medications, all of which I would get rid of in a heartbeat if I thought it would help "work things out"
    Hugs to you

I am taking no meds now (I was taking 25 mg of benedryl to help me sleep, but stopped) prescription or OTC, but NOT because I feel that meds are of no value in our treatment. I am just very sensitive to med side effects, plus I suffer from very, very dry mouth & eyes, and so many meds make for an even drier mouth, in particular. I am starting to look toward more naturopathic types of treatment & diet, etc. But I have absolutely nothing against taking meds for FM/CFS--- in fact, I envy those that seem to have hit upon the right med, or combination of meds, to make their quality of life better. Family & friends give advice because they love us & want better, healthier days for us----but they haven't walked in our painful shoes! Good luck & feel better!

This illness has many aspects and one doctor or one medicine isn`t going to cover all of them. Other people don`t know how bad we feel so we can`t listen to them.
I take ultracet for pain, bextra for joint pain and arthritis, clonazepam for anxiety and to help me sleep. I`ve
had the best luck with a orthopedic doctor but I went through many others. He was the only one that would really finally after over 10 years of this, give me something strong enough for this pain. Most of the others I went to just seemed to think I should suffer it out.
I understand how frustrating this all is tedebear. Hang in there, we`re all here for you.

go to more doctors, don't mess around with your meds, take this, try that, geezzzzzz

i hear this all the time from my spouse and of course my mil is a proclaimed self doctor. she always tells me of people that have been cured of fms, so why aren't i. how can this be true, it would be headline news, a cure for fms/cfs. i just shrug it off.

sometimes i wish i would have kept this fms thing a secret!!!

i have just been seeing a rheumy, prodding by my spouse because i am not "well" yet, i have apptments to see a neurologist (they couldn't get me in until january, thank god i don't have a tumor!), and an IBS specialist. maybe they will find something else (do i really want anything else wrong, no!)

by the way i take ultram (not tramadol, can give you headaches), flexeril (only when needed, helps muscles untense) and have started klonopin at night which is really helping me sleep better and longer. i had been taking ambien but since the klonopin have gone off the ambien (which i had been taking for years). the klonopin also helps if i take a quarter tab during the day if i am really stressed or going somewhere where there is a lot of activity, lights, noise, helps with the overstimulation thing we suffer from.

i get a lot of headaches, tension and migraine and use imitrex and midrin. thus, the head doctor apptment.

also, i like to experiment with herbs one at a time. some are effective for different things. right now i am using grapefruit seed extract for fighting yeast.

    take a good multi-vit, a chewable c, and a fibertab.

also working on my sleep positions and trigger point therapy, which you can look up on the search engine.

everyone on the board takes something different. this dd is so fickle. it is like experimentation. i am by no means cured so i guess i haven't found the right combination yet. let me rephrase that, since there is no cure, you have to find the right combination that makes your life worth living and as pain free as possible.

i have good days, but not as many as i used to. usually if i have one good day and even pace myself, it takes 3 to 5 days to really recover. it just is insane i know. it is difficult to live with this dd day after day, month after month, that is why this board is so great. these people GET IT! i swear "others" even people you live with, spouses, just can't get it.

oh yes, i do see a counselor too, but he just nods while i talk. i swear one time he was falling asleep!! i asked him what we were talking about (fog sat in for a second while i was gathering my thoughts) and he couldn't tell me, i about died laughing inside. that was the highlight of my day, hey this professional isn't listening or has the "fog too" think i need a new one!! or maybe just the board will do.

to end on a positive note, hope you do what you feel comfortable doing, it is your body!

    welcome, and warm regards, fibolady

I have only one doc and she is trying me on several meds but I am having adverse reactions to some and can not take them. I am on four to five different meds a day.
