Has anybody gotten off klonopin after taking it for several years. I only
take .5mg once a day usually but if I even try to lower it I start feeling
anxious & feel like I am getting a panic attack at the thought of not being able to take it as it helps me to feel almost normal.

    Thanks, Jackie

I didn't mean to. I was taking robitussin and it was making me so sleepy that I slept all the time. So, I tapered completely off klonopin.

So, perhaps taking something that makes you kinda drowsy like that or benedryl might help.

There is a supplement sold here called GABA and it isn't expensive and it helps with anxiety and stress...just another possiblitity.

That is a rebound but I think there are otc's that can help with it.

I went back on the klonopin 6 weeks later when the skin pain that I had been taking it for became intolerable again.

    Still take it...over 20 years.

switching to valium and then tapering is the best way as it has a longer half life. Also adding doxepine a tricyclic antidepressant can help with rebound anxiety and is good for sleep as it is quite sedative. Although ssri's are used for anxiety they can also cause anxiety especially in the beginning
