I have been getting these strange pains tonight
and wondered if anyone else has them. It's on
my left side in the waist area on my back and also
up the side. Sharp, stabbing pains that come and
go. Sometimes it startles me and I twitch. It
almost feels like gas pains. Is it possible to
have gas pains there? I have lots of digestive
problems so nothing would surprise me at this

I get that same pain now&then.Same location too.I was thinking it felt like my kidney also but I don't know~
Mine comes and goes but sometimes has lasted weeks at atime. When I was being tested for stomach problems,my Dr. suspected Diverticulitis and he said that with that you get alot of left sided pain....sorta like gas pains~
I had a scope done and a colonoscopy-both came out fine other than hemeroids, so my DX was IBS.Have you noticed if eating certain foods bring it on?It does with me and I get alot of cramps, alot of stomach noises, and sometimes diarreah. Hope this helps some, and I hope you find out whats causing this pain.Let us know~
    Take care....

    get tested for Leukemia

For the one above me.....Why would you suggest getting tested for Leukemia???I never linked side pain/waist pain to that disease!!I believe its the region of the kidneys....and many muscles that we're questioning about.
    Just curious is all~

I think it is too low to be kidney pain. Isn't that pain
    much higher than the waist?

I still have it today, was kind of surprised. It did
hurt a lot more when I turned on my slde for sleep, but I
know that isn't the reason for the pain.

I, too, would like to know why leukemia would be
    suggested. Rather drastic conclusion, don't
you think? Do you have personal experience with this.

for a leukemia explanation. The only thing I can think
of right now is that the hip is the part of the body
where you get bone marrow, isn't it?? So
bone marrow problems??? I don't know.

Please tell us why you said this.

The only other thought I had of this pain would be maybe
our ovary?? I don't know.....I myself have had kidney stones and cysts on my ovary and they both felt very close to the same!!I think the ovary pain would be lower than the kidney but its hard to say because so many pains radiate elsewhere~I have alot of digestive problems too but was DX with IBS when I was tested for other more serious stuff.Someone here before said that there are trigger points located in that region too???so thats a thought!!hense the groin/hip pain~ Its only 8am its too early for me to be thinking this hard!!LOL
    will check back~

I have several blood-filled cysts on my ovaries.
My pain with those is usually in the front and wraps around to the back. This is in an entirely different
area. Of course, I have serious back problems
and ovary problems so I don't know.

It still comes and goes. I took my temp this morning
and it was 97.5 and I also did a home urinary
    tract infection test.

If I feel any worse I think I will call my very unfeeling
and cold fish of a dr! So much motiviation!!!

I looked up kidney infection and it said that
the pain was in the back above the waist. I didn't
    realize it was that low!

One more thing to add to my long list of complaints!

If i'm not mistaken, the kidney area would be at the smallest part of your waistline.....your curve. I keep thinkin its my kidney when this pain flares.I'll have good days and then pain for a week straight!! Today i'm OK(notice the words ok, Not good,...ok) good luck if you should go and get it checked out,let us know!

So you have this and haven't had it checked out?
I was extra nervous this a.m. because I kept
feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom but
I couldn't. This happened for an hour. I asked
my mother to get me the UTI home kit when she
went out. By the time I took it I no longer had
    the urinary problems.

I just don't want to not do something if it is something
that needs attention. I can't stand the thought
of washing my hair and getting dressed! I only
just left the house for an outdoor excursion last
week. By the time I get ready to go to the dr.
I will need to go back to bed. You know how it

That pain around the hip area can be a sign of leukemia, where i heard it was on-line somewhere...

Don't want anyone feeling left out!! My pain here comes and goes.I see my rhuematologist about every 2 months....I've already told her twice about this waist/hip area pain and she must not feel the need to check it out.....She must be thinking its part of FM~
see now i've been fine as far as that for the last week or more. But I've had it act up a few times so far so i'm sure it'll be back!! I had my kidney looked at by a urologist before.Thats been awhile tho,At least 2 yrs ago.
I also have Endometriosis so alot of times I'm thinking its that problem possibly acting up?? I just went last week for a bunch of bloodwork........I guess if something shows up there then I'll be sent for an ultrasound or whatever~ I can't stress over this medical crap, been there done that and I fly into a major flare!! If I worried about every new pain I had....I'd be in a mental ward by now!!
    Hope yours stays away....mine too~
    best of luck~
