    Hi everyone,
Went to the pain doc. today that my dr.refered me too.(He said fibro is phscyosomatic illness and doesnt give narcs..well the pain doc doesnt believe in fibro either he told me to quit reading books about,I said I have it in the waiting room I think you need to read it..He just smiled and wants to do a bunch of tests I told him i wasnt taking any more tests,I was diagnosed with fibro that is what I have and have accepted it..He just looked at me and said he wanted to see the test results from other docs. And made me an appointment for 2 weeks..So he did give me enough soma for 2 weeks(350 mg. 3xa day). I dont think i want to go to him again and listen to his egotistical ass..
Oh i forgot what he said when he first seen me he said you're tooo young to be here..well im 48 and look every bit my age...I think he'll only give pain meds if you are retirement age or older..he tried his best to intimidate me though, but ive learned a lot from all of you here the last couple of months...So it didnt work...Thanks to every one of you are all really cool people and i wish i could meet all of you one of these days..thanks for listening to me ramble..love, deb xxxxxxxx

a rheumatologist? They can prescribe pain meds, besides the fact that they usually have experience in diagnosing and treating FM. I was just diagnosed yesterday, and I'm only 29 years old. I had some previous experience with the disease, though, as my mother was diagnosed at my age. Please find a good rheumatologist!!

    Good Luck!

You just have to keep on trying. Sometimes you can educate one of these egomaniacs but it's rare. To my mind, better to keep on looking!

I went thru all the same garbage. Do not quit, find another and another until you find someone good. That Is what I did, I actually got a Doc that someone here recommended. This board is the BEST way to find a doc sometimes. I had a rheummy DX the FM and mycoplasma P, my rheummy would not treat the pain but w/darvocett, which didn't work, I gently but forcefully demanded a referral to a pain doc, and brought all my diaries that charted pain, sleep, exercise, and pain treatment, and activities w/day to day charting. I typed out a complete medical history from DAY 1 when I first started symptoms until progression that was current, containing every type of doc seen and what they originally thought , but I always excluded the few a**** that thought this was AIYH (all in your head). And I also typed out a medication history and rated each med I was on from 1-5(1 being least effective to 5 being most) and had that to give him as well. He looked at it and said that the only option left for pain control was Sustained release morphine or oxycodone(pure percocett). and he referred his script to my regular MD and she wrote it out, and I had to sign a contract w/her that I would not sell them, etc... remind you this MD was a name I got right off this very board, If I had not found this board I would still be in pain and depressed from dealing w/ the pain, Im not pain free, but I have many other options, she said if this does not work she will try the Duragesic patch next. DO NOT LOSE HOPE<<<<<<<<< GET names of the doctor referral list here or from people that you chat w/online. Most important also, make sure that you get a PCR DNA screening for mycoplasmas in your system, you might need antibiotic therapy like I do to help your body get well. Mycoplasma is a stealth infection that hides deep in tissues and I think DNA as well. I will keep you in my prayers, I was once typing the same posts two months ago, and now I am getting the medical help I needed. I will pray for you to get the same!!! Blessings, IGGY

Been there done that deal. Dont go back to that bull headed egotistical moron. Find your nearest pain clinic somewhere else. There are often more docs in the same clinic also. We is the doc that dx you? Get a report from them and take it with you to your next appointment. I have a really great doc now, after 10 years, and he works realy well with his patients. I live in Missouri, and my doc is from St. Joseph, Mo. He comes to the nearest town, which is Chillicothe Hospital every week so it makes it easier for us to see him. Lots of luck and keep us informed. Sis

He is the wrong doctor to go to when you have fibromyalgia. It is so hard to beleive that any doctor this day can be so ignorant about such a painful and debilitating syndrom. Don't waste your time, money or energy on him. There are some good doctors out there. Good luck in finding the right one.

If you keep looking you will find a Dr to treat your pain NO matter the origin. I understand Fibro to be very painful.
I have been disabled from pain since I was 32, you are not too young either.

This Dr sounds Like a work comp Dr.Downplaying your symptoms. It would be nice if true but when your world is turned upside down from pain, I know first hand it is a real added pain to hear this tone from a professional.

    DUMP THIS BUM!!!

Look up the Pain Patient Rights on the web this is real. Your DR is not looking out 4 u.

Someone mentioned a rheumy for pain meds perhaps. Hope your experience is better than mine. I saw 3 and while the last one I continue to see doesn't mind if I take them, she will not prescribe them. Doesn't want to have to monitor her patients on them nor do the paperwork. Same as the other two I saw. She referrred me to a pain clinic where I received the pain meds I needed. I would suggest you try another pain specialist. While the one you saw is an ignorant AH it seems, you might have good luck with another one. Before making the appt. ask if they treat patients with fibromyalgia. More than likely if the dr. doesn't believe in it, they will send you on your way. Good luck. Toots

The fact that your own doc thinks this is all in our minds is one good reason not to continue to see any doc he refers you to. This is rediculous. Get a good pain specialist. Talk to the person on the phone next time and ask about which modalities they use to treat pain. You will find out if they do not use meds to treat it.

    Love, Mikie

Go to my bio and e-mail me. I also live in Ohio. My doc is great with FM. Listens, is open to suggestions.......
If you are at all close you may want to see him/her - there are two in the office and you see who ever. Both are great.
They also treat several people with FM.
