What can I expect from a pain clinic

I've been diagnosed 4 times with FM. My last doctor moved away so I had to get another. It took us almost 3 years to figure out what worked for me and now I have to start all over. He has my medical records but I guess he needs to see himself. He is sending me to a pain clinic. I was just wondering what to expect. I went to one clinic which was 1 doctor (hardly a clinic) no nurses and all he did was give me injections that didn't help.

I am at the point if somebody told me eat a rock to make the pain go away I would.

The only pain medication I have is Ultram.

I don't know what to say what to expect, but my PCP is thinking about sending me to one also.

Thanks for the laugh with the rock thing though. I'll keep on eye on your post to see what others have to say.

I reallyyyyyyyy needed a laugh today thanks again.

You sound like me all i have is ultram and not enough to take more than 1 a day. I am going to a new rheumy next week with I am afraid not much hope but I may like to go to a pain specialist also. So I am very anxious to see how they help you.

    p.s. the rocks dont work..I've eaten a mountain :(

Lin-z Thanks a mountain for the laughs. I guess I'm a little better off. My rhuemy has prescribed vicodin and oxycodone for the pain, but my pcp says that narcotics are not good for your health. My opinion on it is it's better then suffering every day with the pain that this DD causes.

I was in terrible pain for the past couple of weeks when I mentioned to my rhuemy that the vicodin wasn't working anymore, then he prescribed the oxycodone which I thought was just a replacement for the vicodin.

I called the doc this morning because the pain was so bad to find out if i understude his instructions at my last visit. Darn fibro fog I wasn't supposed to stop the vicodin like I did the oxcycodone is in addition to the vicodin. Now the releive from the pain is alot better and I can actually move without dieing again.

between all of them...pain clinic, or MD or PC..or whatever intials they use...only thing is, most MD don't feel comfortable prescribing the high meds, like oxycotion or Vicidon, because they are monditerd so closley, where as a PC or Rheumy has more room to work in that area. That's what they specilize in...giving meds, so the heat is off them alittle more. I can't say that is true of all, from what I have read here, some have wonderful doctors that prescribe just what they need. My experience is..the regular doctors just don't want to mess with it all. Too much paper work, montering, etc..etc..
It gets to be a pain in the butt, having to retell the whole nine yards of all the syntoms, but it's worth it in the end. So hang in there, write a little list to yourself of the worse problems your dealilng with ...like the pain, and go from there. You will do fine, and will be better off.
Let us know how you did.
