I have chronic sinus problems. I hope ABX doesn't mean surgery. I don't have insurance. My sinus problems are chronic. And antibiotics don't help. Grapefruit seed extract seems to help the most. But still not solved. Maybe I need to take more grapefruit seed extract.

As suggested above rinsing your sinuses with salt water ( it should taste like your tears or is may be too strong) is an easy way to prevent and help treat sinus problems. I've used that technique for many years.

I just recently discovered the same thing that can be purchased over the counter, though it's a bit pricey. It's call Simply Saline and is much easier to use and convenient to take along with you.

Many OTC saline spays contain large amts of very bad tasting preservatives but this does not.

    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck

My fibro dr says all of the sinus problems that we have are all related...

I suffered for years..and I mean years with the sinus problems I had.
When I first saw the allergist and ent they had no idea how bad mine was. Until they went in and my ent couldn't believe it at all. I had everything possible that could of been wrong wrong. I was only 23 at the time. So they came to the conclusion that I this had been going on since I was a child.

So everything was pretty good for awhile but then I had to have another surgery 2 years after. From my understanding and from a lot of other people I have talked to they usually have to do 2 surgeries..not always but of course I had to have another. Thank god it wasn't as extensive as the first.

I am a pretty good patient too..and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy...UGH
anyway I also had a lot of sinus headaches and the only thing that helped me then was fiorinal.
    I was constantly stuffy....it was a pain

I am thankful to say that I have had not one problem since my last surgery...YEA!

    good luck

If you can tolerate them, the old fashioned remedies like olbas oil on a tissue next to your pillow, putting eucalyptus oil in hot water and put your head over it under a towel, eucalyptus oil in an oil burner, can all give some measure of releif in my experience.

But eventually I found I could prevent my sinus problems from even starting by taking a strong antihistamine daily, because I realised that the sinus problems always began with allergic rhinitis and the antihistamines more or less stopped this, although I would say that I still have some minor level of rhinitis almost every day.

as soon as I try to stop taking the antihistamines I start getting allergic rhinitus then sinusitis soon kicks in again.

I would ask a specialist (allergist, pulmonologist) before using an ionizer if you have asthma.

I have had chronic sinusitis since I was 5 and Im almost 50 now. I have had infections that have lasted months at a time and the doc had to change my antibiotics several times until he found one that worked. Recently I had to have MRIs of the head (had a really bad headache in my eye) and MRI shows a chronic condition of this (something I already knew) Anyway, doc wrote me a prescription for Nasacort which I am supposed to use daily, whether or not I have an active infection. Also was told to take Claritin D, once daily. Doing both these things does help but the key is to do it everyday whether you are having sinus issues or not. Of course this is only if your condition is chronic like mine.

Have you consulted a doctor for this and is this a one time thing or do you have chronic problems?

i dont know which one mentoned the silver in thier post , but i will share tis with you. i live kind of close to amish and mennonite people. they have thier own stores and much information. i found on thier shelves a product in a small jar (about 1/2 pint) called silver miracle. it really does have silver in it. it said on the bottle that it not only cured bacterial infections but alsoVIRUSES! i couldnt believe it. i bought a bottle 25.00 for it. but you only have to take 1/4th tsp. in water 2xa day. so it lasts forever. i asked my pharmacist with whom i am friends, why it would work. he looked it up and did some survey. it so happens that years ago, silver was a natural metal found in the soil. but spraying with pesticides and so forth destroyed it. well the AMISH do not use these things but let the ground stay as GOD made it, and so the silver is still in thier soil. well guess what else he told me? that SILVER is a natural antibiotic! sooooo i guess they know something we dont, because i have used this even on the grandchildren. it looks and tastes, EXACTLY like water. i am not prescribing here, just telling you what happened to me. and the sinus infections had eaten a holle into my septum also. hope this helps someone. if you cant get to a store. then you can write them. they will mail it to you.---ski

I use nasonex and benadryl. Alleries account for a lot of the sinus problems. I also take nature made garlic (only brand I know for sure works)because it's a natural antibiotic- you can't get a toxic level because it's water soluable(you can take mega doses when you think you are getting an infection and it will kill it!). I had constant sinus infection for years and don't anymore w/ the garlic et al. I will take up to 4 garlic tabs every 4 hours when I think I'm getting an infection.
