I use Milk of Magnesia. It tastes horrible and makes me run to the bathroom with explosive diarrhea. No kidding.

    Thank you.

Hi Becca, I have that problem myself. What I found works best for me is to take Phillips caplets. I take 3 daily and it works very well. Hope this helps.

I eat up to ten servings of fruit and veggies a day.
Not only have they helped with weight loss but they help with constipation too.
I'm still not "regular" but it's a lot better.
i also starting taking ground flax, and cod liver oil. they help even more.

When you wake up in the morning, before you eat, put a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice into 1/3 cup warm water. You will have a comfortable bowel movement in minutes. Lemon juice is a natural detoxifier and astringent for the bowels. It is always better to go with natural stuff if you can!!!

I took ex-lax for years and it helps if you take it along with a stool softener. I just switched to the Phillips caplets and having been playing around with how much of them to take. I like them so much better then the ex-lax. P

I'm also using the Phillips tablets... I haven't tried any of the natural remedies, but have found that this seems to somewhat help me. I haven't really tried upping the dose, yet, but am thinking maybe I should...

I wear a Fentanyl Patch, and this makes me very constiated.

I have tried several over the counter pills, but none seemed to help me that much.

My doctor prescribed me Amitiza 24mg, 1 in the morning, and 1 at night. You take them every day. They really do help.
The drawback: It's a new medication and there's no generic available. I have no insurance, so it cost me $175.00 per bottle. Ikes!!

    Hope this helps,

Miralax is good. It is colorless, odorless, and no taste. You mix it with water and a little juice for flavor. It is not harsh - just helps put water in your colon.

Secondly, if you can eat a couple of cups of the cereal called "Strawberry Fields" each night. It is organic and not alot of sugar but easier to digest.

What really stopped my constipation was using a product called "Gold Standard" which is a protein shake each day. I add another product to the shake called "Miracle Reds".

Gold Standard is a very digestible protein, so much that a baby could eat it. I did not know it was going to straighten out my digestive system but it did. I have no idea why this worked but all my life I had a tendency to have constipation.

I have recommended this to others who also had the same response. Being constipated is so toxic and just getting regular has made a huge improvement in my health.

I take miralax and it works pretty well. I had to play around with times I take it, three days on, two days off.

I was on Benefiber and almost had an intestional blockage as I guess nothing was moving. The miralax has the added benefit of a stool softener.

I have always eaten a lot of fiber but when I had to go on some of the medications this did not help by itself.

When I took stool softeners, it would upset my stomach.

I put the Miralax in my hot tea in the morning. It has no taste, no grit.

    Take care.

Hi , I have been on morphine for about 8 years and have gone through horrible times with constipation. I have tried prescrition miralax, stool softners, fiber supplements, milk of mag. , and many many more. The one that finally works for me with no cramping and no diarrhea but normal stools is senakot 4-5 tablets at bed time.It is a life saver for me ,with all the narcotics i'm on.My Dr. said I could use them as often as I needed and even take a larger dose also if needed.I buy them off ebay, much cheaper than other places. Hope this helps, being constipated from narcotic use is very miserable. God Bless

flavored Phillips, but had to experiment with how much. I take a little less than the cup they provide on night one before bed and then the full cup the next night. I do get some diarrhea but it works completely and then I don't need it again for several days. In between if I have any trouble I use the Dulcolax suppositories or Glycern suppositories or the Dulcolax pills, no cramps. Some times we just have to experiement with doses to find what works for us. The prescription the doctor gave me did nothing, no matter HOW I tried it. Good luck, I know the IBS added to the medications make itso difficult at times. Sincerely, Bambi

Eat lots of fiber. But Arnolds 12 grain bread and I also eat a mini bag of popcorn once a day. Fiber All Cereal is also good. Wish you luck!

I have used many different products in my life suffereing from chronic pain {fibro} and Miralax is the best by far. I drink it with a glass of juice as it goes down better for me. I used to use stool softeners but the miralax works so much better. I to have added fibro to my diet. My grandparents were big on whole grain cereals so when we went to see them I ate one called Sunny Boy . I can't find it here in the states. Grandparents lived in Southern Alberta Canada. Now I am eating oatmeal daily. It helps too. I am eating more fruits and veggies as well.

like the others have said,... no taste and it works mildly.
Meaning,... all the others I'd tried would make me go urgently with cramping, (IBS)
Miralax is a very gentle laxative.

I don't understand what you mean by "narcotic use"...... but when I had a colonoscopy, primarily for constipation issues, the specialist told me I could use MOM (Milk of Magnesia) every night if I needed to with no problem. I didn't need it every night but it made me curious about the MOM in my cupboard. I saw that it's just magnesium with some chemicals and fillers added!

I decided that it would be cheaper and maybe healthier in the long run to make sure I was taking adequate magnesium. Mag helps with so many things including sleep.

And yes, you need to check your diet too, but a lot of high fiber gives me IBS, so I take magnesium and calcium (separate capsules are best) at night according to my needs. I also make sure I eat a lot of fresh veggies (sweet fruit like sugar causes us problems, I think) and a big green salad every day.

Check with your doctor but I can't see any reason this couldn't work for you and it sure tastes better and you can tailor it to your needs.

Mirala is what I use and what my GI likes the best. I also use Colace (get Walmart brand) for a stool softener. Don't use the one with the laxative in it just the regular Colace.
