what is the right kind of magnesium to take??

    i remember reading in various fibro books that you should take a certain kind of magnesium. and that it is important to have the "right" kind, otherwise it is a waste of time.

    my doctor said magnesium oxide. (200 mg at dinner)

    anyone have comments?

    There have been a number of posts on this - best to do a search for Magnesium in the title.

    I'm a little foggy but as far as I remember - oxide is not a good form as it's not that absorbable. Glycinate is the best form and citrate is the next best.

    I'm sure people will correct me on that & will give you the definitve advice.

    My doctor specifically recommended magnesium malate for FM. A friend of mine who is becoming a naturopath explained the difference in the different forms, but I can't remember what he said. I have read that malic acid is helpful for fibro folks so maybe that's why it's recommended.

    I've also heard that magnesium glycinate is good.
