It's an outhouse. Aka a privy, latrine, or earth closet. In other words, a bathroom with no
plumbing; thus, no running water.
When I was a wee lad in the 1940s, a few homes in our village still had these, however,
they were not in use anymore. The town had installed a sewer system. My grandmother
had an outhouse in her backyard. It was used as a small shed to store garden tools.
But my relatives who were farmers still had outhouses that were in use. Every year or two
a new pit was dug and the building was moved.
Here's one in a bucolic setting.
