What pain med would you ask for?

I'm going to ask my Dr for a pain med, I'm allergic to Tramadol (Ultram) and hydrocodone so I don't know what else to ask for. If I go in asking for Oxycodone my Dr is going to say NO WAY.

    Anyone have a suggestion?

Well I think that depends on your doctor. My doctor had no problem prescribing that for me - but it's obvious that many people here can't even get pain meds.
Does your Dr. know your allergies? I would go in and ask what your options are. I would think that would come up (from your Dr.). "What other pain medications are available to me with my allergies?"
Some people say not to ask for certain meds - but I always say I've done research and I've read this or that.
    Good Luck!

If your dr is already going to say "NO" to things that you may NEED to help you control your pain then it might just be worth your time and effort to find a good pain management dr!

IMO dr's that are so quick to say "NO" are mostly worried about their butts...then they are helping you to have a quality of life!

If a Dr knows what he is doing..and follows the rules he should with confidence be able to prescribe ANY pain medications available!....I believe a dr(s) that are scared to prescribe are afraid because they do not know what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pain medications are made for a reason and that is for people who suffer from pain to get relief from it!

Since I have gone to a pain specialist it has made all the difference in the world in a positive way!

MY Dr has a "PH" degree which is one of the highest degrees a person can get...so he knows what he is doing.....and if he is questioned he can handle it both professionally and confidently!

I just got put on the duragesic ( fentanyl ) pain patch...and to be very honest it is by far the "BEST" form of pain relief I have ever gotten!

Iam working on dealing with the nausea it causes but overall I have never had anything pill or liquid that works this well to block my IP ( intractable pain )

So......talk to your Dr about this...and remember if you are not getting where you need to be with controlling your pain .....you DO have other choices....

and going to a pain specialist would be my HIGH recommendation!

Please let us know how your appt goes ok?:)

    This is my opinion

Yes my Dr does know about my allergies, something tells me she doesn't believe me tho. I guess we'll see.

The reason I think she will say NO tone oxycodone is she will want to start with something way less stronger because I haven't been on pain meds for the 3 years I have been with her.
This is the same Dr that told me to take an aspirin or 800mg of Advil for the shingle outbreak AND fibro flare just 2 weeks ago.

With your allergy to hydrocodone it may be hard to find a good pain med. I'm allergic to oxycodone and I always have a hard time finding a med that will work. A lot of the same medications are in other drugs since most come from the same families.

Good luck with your dr's appointment. I sure hope you find something that helps.
