    Hensue,
I am so sorry to hear that you suffer like this. I have the same problem. In fact, as of right now, I've had a headache almost a week. BC Powders take the edge off a little...,and Darvocet can really nauseate me, especially if I take it on an empty stomach. I usually put heat on my neck, (some use an ice pack.) Sometimes Percogesic will help a little. There are a few herbal remedies that sometimes help, but you should make sure they aren't contraindicated with any other medications you may be taking. Feverfew is supposedly good for headaches, especially migraines.

Also there's a medication out there called Midrin that's for migraines and tension headaches that seem to help my son pretty well. Perhaps you could ask your Doctor about it.

Then again, sometimes it's just a waiting game. And it's miserable. Hope you find something of use in the things I mentioned.

Anyone else have any more suggestions?

    Gentle Hugs,
    Meg

When I get bad headaches, which is frequent, I take 2 Excederine Migraine. That usually does it. How are things going with your hubby? How is youro son doing?
    Hope you feel better.

I just remembered one more thing I sometimes do for headaches. Back "in the day" when we wore headbands a lot, they seemed to help the headaches a bit. I think it was the counterpressure on your head. They really helped the kind of pounders that made your head feel big as a house. I've lost all my old headbands, but what I do is cut the leg off an old pair of pantyhose and trim it up a bit, then slip it over my head nice and snug. It looks ridiculous, but if you're not going anywhere .............It may not get rid of it, but it can make the going a bit easier!

try antihistamines for migraines/headaches, periactin is one antihistamine that is used for headaches, will make you sleepy too, over the counter and cheap too. Saw a recent study that it also increases stage 4 sleep which is what we all need more of.
    good luck

    Hi,

I usually press the points at the base of my skull - they always feel like they need draining so I press and hold them quite firmly at the first sign of headache, then release then do the same again - easier if my husband does them for me. I really find this can help it turning into something nasty.

I also use an icepack sometimes at the first sign on the back of my head and drink lots of water.

I try to do lots of neck stretches as find this helps with tension ones.

Woke up still have the headache. Sore neck, Dear god it is raining here again. Maybe this tropical storm has something to do with it.
thanks for asking about my son. The one that is anxiety ridden is ok right now. This week he seems to be handling things. He is saving his money so when he gets home he will have enough to go to therapy and get some help. My husband is good right now. My other son in Afghanistan is alive he called his son this morning. So we are all good right now. Just like everybody else trying to hang on. I dont no who it was on the board last night. She was depressed, i thought she commit suicide. I hope she is ok. I just could read any longer.
is everything ok with her? Do you know who i am talking about?
We did have a man who i went to school here in town. That found out he had chronic fatigue. Then fibromyalgia, i did not know. The doctors had not diagnosed him with fibro. His pain was unrelenting. Before i new about he killled himself.
It was the pain that did. If you dont get a handle on it. it well make your life hell!
    Thats encouraging isnt it.
Going to call doc about headache with high blood pressure i dont want to take just anything.
thanks all of you are wonderful and the best!

I am so sorry about your headaches. I get migraines to. I have a specialist, he is a neurological optholomoligist. Very, very specialized. My ENT referred me to him. He dx'd me with vertigo, BPPV, and vascular migranes, he prescribed Midrin. It works wonderful, but I have to go to bed when I take it because it makes me really tired. That is not a bad thing though because when I get a migrane, I can't do anything anyway. I also use a sleep mask to block the light, it helps a lot. I hope this helps, just a thought.

My thoughts are with you that you have a better day.
    Soft hugs,
    Kelly

Fibrofoggiest. It has been scary hoping she wouldn't do anything. It seems though the more we talked to her, the better she felt.
So just keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer. She did reply back to us, and that all of our comments made her feel a little better.

Hope your headache goes away- Jenn

I, too, get horrible headaches which turn into migraines. I have tried all the migraine medications and they don't work for me. I have even been on preventative meds and they don't seem to help, either.

Our friend, Tandy, from the board once told me about Fiuorcet(?), the generic name is Butalbitol. I asked my doc about it and have been taking it for some time. It works wonders!

Sometimes, even after taking the Butalbitol, I still use an ice pack, go to a dark, quiet room to rest. My doc told me if I "hyper-extend" my neck, that helps, too. Just lie on your back and try to pretend you are pointing your chin to the ceiling. Also, I use Icy-Hot around my forehead, temples, behind my ears, on the nape of my neck and on my shoulders. I swear by the Icy-Hot.

    Hope this helps,
    Steach

I suffer from daily chronic headaches and also several migraines a month, these can last days. It is excrutiating! I know how terrible you must feel. It is made worse by it going on for several days, kind of wears you down physically and mentally.

I take Fiorinal with Codeine for my headaches. It has been a miracle for me. It has caffeine, butalbital (a barbiturate) aspirin and codeine in it so it covers all bases. They also make it with Tylenol instead of aspirin, it is called Fioricet with codeine. Anyway it is an RX med but worth discussing with your Dr.

I had tried (literally) 50 different meds/supplements for headaches and found this one to be the best for me. For most of my headaches it works quickly but when it doesn't work, I also will drink a Coke, eat some warm soup and take a hot bath. If that doesn't work, I have gone to the ER or my Dr before and gotten a shot of Toradol and Demeral, or Ativan and Vistoril, both of which worked to stop the headache.
If you ever go to the ER for a headache though I would always suggest having your Dr call ahead so the ER Drs don't treat you like a drug seeker...that is the worst feeling ever.

Otherwise the other thing I used to use before the Fiorinal was Excedrin. It worked on my headaches for years but stopped working for me about 10 years ago. The Migraine formula is actually the same as regular ES Excedrin except they include a pamphlet discussing Migraine headaches.

I hope you find relief soon.
BTW I also get headaches (especially Migraines) when a storm comes in. ANytime the humidity increases or a change in the weather.

    Good luck
    Sincerely
    JL

Went and got it but all of you have such excellent suggestions. I am going to do some of that first. I think it is a little better. I can at least see now. Still terrible neck sore eyes water, shoulders hurt. Headache right in front
above eyes. Eyes are even sore. We have already had i tropical storm come through. Then when this started it was a bad thunderstorm. Now another one. i think that has something to do with it.
even your face is sore. Doc said if it did not go away after med. Or by tomorrow afternoon. He wanted me to come in.
Warm water feels really good. i think i will try one of those therma wraps. i have some my husband left. Give it a try.
Also allergic to demerol and codiene.
That does not help does it.
He sent a migraine med that starts with a T.
    check you later
    Thanks so much!

    with the adjustment cranked up.

It does seem to make it more bearable.

When that isn't enough, I wrap an ace bandage around my head as tight as I can get. That works even better.

In fact, I have one on right now!

Chocolate covered coffee beans- I send them to Iraq when my son gets them, every other drug made him sick. I used to take Midrin and it helped for awhile but then it stopped working for me. So, now I just take my regular meds and get into a dark room, cover my head and go to sleep. My husband used to do what Malcomb(?) did, only he would use a belt instead of a baseball cap and put pressure on the back of neck he had cluster headaches. Hope this helps!

What were you saying about your son in Iraq why did you send him choc. covered coffee beans? Are those good? Where do you get them. Good quality i mean.

Is he still in Iraq or is he out? How is he doing? My son has been there four times. The first he was special ops, night stalker. They have to kill you if they tell you but he was with Saddam.
He is suppose to get home in end of December of january.
That will be his last overseas. If they dont do a stop loss on him.
i pray not when comes home then he will have 15 months left.
    He is counting they days.
Thanks all head is getting better. eyes a little blurry i got a feeling it is trying to leave. I did try the hot bath, excedrin does it have caffeine? Thermal wrap around my neck helped a lot. Putting pressure like a baseball cap i would think it would hurt like my glasses. havent taken the meds he sent so hopefully i will not have to.
    Thank you so much!
See all these things i have never had these kind of headaches like this! I know a lot of people get different kinds. What are cluster headaches i have heard of them.
    Thanks again
if it doesnt quit raining, well i am thankful we did not get washed away like some did.
    Thanks

hope they don't sound too simplistic!

My friend has been having horrible headaches the past week, nothing's helping except to use an ice pack.

Also do you happen to have long hair? This will sound nuts, but another friend told me about the horrible headaches both her and her mother had for years - both had thick long hair. A wise country doc told them to cut it off to shoulder length, and it worked. Crazy sounding yes, but when you think about it, can make some sense!

The weather changes can set me off, I had TMJ/temporal mandibular joint pain (jaw joint) for 20 years; while finally cured with a good functional orthodontic dentist, it can still flare with quick weather changes lke you've gotten with the tropical storm.

chronic sinusitis has been said to affect the majority of the CF/FM population... that it alone can cause 'chronic fatigue'.

Hope you get some help and answers, I know how bad it can be!

    all the best,
    Victoria

My son used to get terrible (juvenile) migraines nothing worked and one day he we were talking to one of his friends mom and she said to try chocolate covered coffee beans. So we did and it worked. So, one day he called from Iraq and was just having a headache so I sent him a bag of chocolate covered coffee beans.
He'll be leaving for his third tour in a couple of months. He's infantry and in a few days he will be moving to Hawaii. I am very proud of him! In the meantime he's going to college and married with a step-son, that keeps him on his toes!LOL!
Anyway back to the beans you can get them at Starbucks, or any place they sell good chocolate(like in the mall etc). The caffeine in them is what works I think. Now it doesn't work for me but hey everyone is different! Take Care!

PS: since you do wear glasses, when was the last time you had your eyes checked? That could be part of the problem other than worrying about your son. He will be fine:) Think possitive...mine will probably stay for life, he likes the military and heck he can retire at 38. That's why he's going to college to get started on his second career! This is going to sound crazy, but I had daily headaches, sinus, migrains, cluster, etc. sometimes more than one kind at the same time. It was worst than the FM pain.

I read a book called: 'ABC of Asthma Allergies & Lupus' by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D. He also has a website called; watercure (you can add the rest).

He claimed that we get these headaches because we are dehydrated. We need to drink half our body weight in ounces of plain water a day.

Well, I would have tried anything, I was not a water drinker at all.

I started drinking water about 6 years ago now, and I rarely get headaches of any kind anymore.

It took about two weeks to really work, but it does work for me.

According to this doctor, if we do not drink water, or bodies will drain the water in our brain and that is what causes all kinds of headaches. I think the man is right!

MY cousin also had headaches daily, she drank the water for about a month, the headaches stoppped. But she does not like water went back to her soda's and has horrible headaches daily again.

Its not something you can stop doing.

I keep two full bottles of water by the bed and the computer (otherwise I will forget to drink it), and make sure I drink it daily.

Its worth a try, and its cheap! I drink the Evian bottled water, only one that does not make me choke!
