I have been diagnosed with Fibro., now I am wondering if I also have cfs. I see a pain specialist for my meds. But what type of Doc is best qualified to diagnose cfs. The doc who first told me I had fibro has written me off, he didn't want to prescibe all the pain meds that I needed. So now am in the cold. I live in the San Francisco bay area, does anyone know a good diagnostisian there. I have ordered the kit for the XMRC virus, but don't know where to go from there either, any suggestions will help. Thanks

simple answer is one who gives a rats, and will help with meds for symptom control. Finding one who can cure u is like winning the lotto, lol. A good gp will probably have seen more cfs patients then an immunologist, but u could get lucky

I have been very lucky as my PCP has over 500 patients with FM.

I dropped my rheumy who really was a sports medicine doctor and pretty clueless about FM. I think they needed to designate one of the rheumatologist as the FM doctor. When Cymbalta and Lyrica did not work, she wanted me to try Chinese herbal medicine but I would have had to give up my other medications such as Tramadol and AD plus it is not as science based as I personally like. She even admitted that it isn't backed up by science. Maybe she ran out of ideas?

I did have a rheumatologist in Chicago who was wonderful.

If my PCP did not see lots of patients with FM, I would probably go to a neurologist if she/he knew about FM. But I don't think there are many neurologist who treat FM.

Would an infectious disease doctor treat CFS? If your primary symptoms are viral, then I would think so. If they are more neurological, I would say a neurologist. Both? I don't have a clue.

I would be interested in how many people with CFS see a rheumy.

    Good luck.

I was recently told by a very well known CFS doc that the best specialist was a Rheumatologist. But that being said the best one is one that has experience with CFS patients.
