Sending this out early! Tired and want to get in to my jammies!

DH and I took our neice and nephew' to "Charlie Pumpkin's" today. It is a farm, that has a 'museum' every October, with pumpkin's, gourds, etc., with a theme. This year was 'Fairy Tales'. Too cute! Hayrides, food, maze's, etc. It is a a family tradition, that started with our 2 children, 20 years ago. It's a very special day for us!

Both of our mom's have dealt with health issues's this week. We've spent more time in doctor's office's, than anywhere else. My mom is doing better. DH's mom is having cardiac problems. More tests this week, for her and 2 visits to the doc this week.

I haven't been able to look back on last week's post. I hope you and your families, are doing well. All of you are always in my prayers.

    Happy Monday to all!

    Good morning all!

Not sure how much I'll get done today...Here in Europe we changed our clocks back yesterday and I never seem to do well even though it's only an hour difference.

Woke up at 4:00 am today so I'm hoping to go back to bed for a nap later.

At the very least I need to water my plants and shower today. I'm hoping I'll be able to do more.

Kim, hope everything turns out well with both of your Moms.

    Hugs all,

    Nancy B

Well, I managed to make it to all of my activities over the weekend, but I was wiped out yesterday. I layed around quite a bit and just couldn't get moving. Maybe it was just as well as I was meeting my friend from work in the evening to go to the haunted house. Everytime I try to do more activities like normal people do, I do pay for it. Frustrating to say the least.

But I'm not doing too badly today, except for a lower energy level than normal and I'm glad I did go to the play on Friday night, the movie on Saturday afternoon and the haunted house on Sunday night. The rest of the time I didn't do too much.

Anne Theresa: I hope you were able to enjoy your Halloween party even though you couldn't stay as long. I have always loved Halloween, too. Scary movies, haunted houses, etc. are fun.

Kim: I hope all goes well with both of your moms. Anything to do with the heart is especially worrisome.

Nancy: Our time change here in the U.S. isn't until next weekend. The time change always affects me, too, and it takes me a week or so to adjust to it.

Linda: I saw a really scary movie over the weekend with my husband and a friend from work-I think it's called "30 Days of Nights". I liked it, but my friend thought it was too scary. She and I also went to the haunted house last night and that was really good.

    To-do list:

    -make spaghetti for dinner
-do some yard work (if I get my second wind; otherwise,
just stay in the house and putter. I would like to
take advantage of the nice weather, but we'll see if
    I'm up to it)

Kim & Ellen, it's so nice to hear about your Halloween adventures. Nancy, do they celebrate Halloween in Germany?

I had a nice time at the party on Saturday and I managed to stay for over an hour. Yesterday was spent mostly resting and re-couping, though I did to take a walk around the block (in keeping with my resolve to walk daily).

The next event to prepare for is our anniversary on Wednesday. I need to make some inquiries today about having our dinner sent in, and then tomorrow, I need to pick up Sweetie's gift. That, along with my daily chores, should keep me busy for a couple days.

    To-Do List

    sweep living room floor
    empty wastebaskets
    clean washroom
    polish kitchen table
    fish, pilaf, veggies for dinner

I was up earlier than usual this morning, so I may need to nap this afternoon.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

Kim...hope your moms are doing better soon. So scary.

Went to the dentist this AM...was very anxious over this, but it turned out to be a no big deal Ever since he pulled a tooth last year, I have been petrified something like that will happen again. Not happening.

Got some groceries, put them away, going to rest. Took anxiety pills before going to dentist and now I'm tired from the meds and from the anxiety.

Silly, I know. Can't help it right now.

Take care, all...hope to catch up with everyone soon.

I'm going to switch my list from yesterday for today because I woke up at 3:50 this morning, yuck!!

Yesterday my daughter came over and we went to our clinic and got our meds refilled. Took her to the library to return her books, then we went to the thrift store on base.

Had lunch out with one more errand when we ran into her hubby and took him to lunch. Went back to the thrift store to grab the items we were undecided on before then came home. Whew...so tired, but we had a wonderful time.

She even cooked dinner for the four of us so that too was helpful.

Halloween in Germany....is catching on. We had a few trick or treaters last year at our apartment complex and some of them were German kids too, but very young ones.

The stores were filled with Halloween costumes and decorations for fall and we just had an article in the Stars and Stripes that said the kids like this particular holiday of ours since most all German Holidays are Religious in nature.

They use the German equivalent of "Sweet or Sour" when they come to the door, kind of cute!

Sorry if I've forgotten anything...so tired this morning!

    Hugs all,

    Nancy B

We are getting ready for a quick trip to Oregon- my husband has some business there. We'll take the twins with us and do homeschool on the road! You should have seen their faces when I said we were bringing school work- they were hoping for a three day vacation!

Hubby had to start high blood pressure meds, but asked the doc if he could stop- he couldn't take the dopey, drowsy feeling he had on beta blockers. So they will reevaluate after we get back from our trip. Dietwise he's doing pretty well, but it's hard to lose very fast and probably not the best strategy anyway.

Nancy- I like what the German kids say- "Sweet or sour"- that's a different take on Halloween! I always hated it, when my brother and I would go out and trick or treat, often the people at the door would say, "Where's the trick?" We never had a ready reply for that one.

I hope all are doing well this week....I'll catch up with you Saturday!

Nancy, thanks for telling us about Halloween in Germany. It's nice to know those who live in Germany are able to enjoy this holiday, as we do.

Sue, I always take a tranquilizer before I see the dentist (the dentist prescribes Valium for me, one to take the night before and one to take the morning of an appointment) even for a minor procedure. I had a frightening & painful dental experience when I was a child and, although I know my present dentist is highly skilled and gentle, I can't get past my fearfulness, pounding heart, sweating, etc. without a tranquilizer. I'm glad your appointment went well.

Linda, I hope you and your sweetie find a some time within this 'working vacation' to enjoy yourselves. Sweetie and I talked last eve. about painting our living room and bedroom before Christmas so it looks like we might be heading for a 'working vacation' of our own.

BTW, I can't imagine how you & Ellen can enjoy watching scary movies. I'd be in for a week's worth of nightmares if I ever watched the kinds of movies you both enjoy. I'm also sensitive to violence and/or gun-play, except for the most subtle or comedic expressions. Much of what's out there in movie-land scares the beans out of me. Sadly, many of my favourite actors accept parts in movies that I'm not able to watch. Oh well, thankfully there's lots of comedy and animation to keep me entertained.

Ellen, I hope you've had a good rest and have regained the energy you spent over such busy, fun-filled weekend.

Kim, I hope you mother and mother-in-law are recovering from their health issues. This must be a hectic time for you and your husband. Take extra good care.

Enjoy your trip, Terri. I hope the weather stays nice and that you're able to witness the lovely autumn colours as you travel.

My main to-do today is to go to the mall to get Sweetie's anniversary gift. I've decided to get him a suede jacket because the one he's wearing now has seen better days. I have the jacket picked out so all I need is to pick it up and have it gift-wrapped.

I'm not feeling well - on top of all the fibro-stuff the hot-flashes have been fast & furious lately even though I use the hormone replacements. This is my tenth year of menopause - do these symptoms ever end?

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

I feel so much better today after sleeping 'in' until 5:30!!

Funny story about Germany and Halloween, saw it on the news a few days ago (Shepard Smith). Some people thought there was a dead body on a train in rural Germany, where they hadn't heard much about Halloween.

The guy looked dead, was covered in blood etc....turns out he was only 'dead drunk' and in his Halloween costume, lol!!!

Today my daughter might come in to get her Levothyroxine at the clinic. If I feel up to it, we may do some shopping too.

Otherwise, I plan to get started sewing Christmas jammy pants and just putz around the house.

Linda, glad your chores are done from your working vacation. Unfortunately, sometimes that's exactly what's necessary to get caught up on things that need to be done.

Anne Theresa, wow 10 years of menopausal symptoms...not sure how I'd handle that. Mine come and go since my hysterectomy but haven't been severe yet...knock wood. I keep my Climara patches on hand for when I need them.

    Hugs all,

I called in sick yesterday from work. I went back to bed at 7:00 a.m. and didn't wake up until 10:30! I felt really wiped out and I guess I just needed the rest. Sometimes I envy the rest of you being able to stay home although it does help that I like my job. But it is hard getting up some mornings especially when it's dark and cold outside. But I'm doing better today.

Today on campus we are having a guest speaker on mental illness. My brother's group from the Hope Center is coming over and I am meeting them at noon. Afterward Jim and I will have lunch, then I will head for home. This guest speaker is mentally ill, but is a genius in many ways. Should be interesting.

Linda: Sounds like you are getting a lot accomplished, but it's good you are taking a break. Enjoy your trip.

Sue: I know what you mean about going to the dentist. I have a tooth that is bothering me. I have to go to a specialist in November and I might have to have a root canal. I've never had one before, but I've heard they are awful. I am really dreading the appt. as I'm afraid that's what he will tell me needs to be done.

Nancy: I have a penpal in Austria. I wonder if they celebrate Halloween there, also? I like the sweet or sour, too!

Terri: I would love to see Oregon someday. I'm sure the twins weren't happy with mom's plan for homeschooling during the trip!

Anne Theresa: Maybe Linda and I are just weird for liking scary movies. Yesterday I watched a couple of them since I was off work. I've always liked movies that scare me-don't ask me why! I have started having periods that are not exactly on schedule-so I guess I am entering perimenopause. I am so sorry you have been suffering for ten years. Isn't there anything your doctor can do to help you?

    To-do list:

    -chili for dinner
    -vacuum laundry room
    -clean sinks
-hand out candy to trick or treaters

    Happy Halloween, everyone!

P.S. to Anne Theresa: Is today your anniversary? If it is, then Happy Anniversary!

    Happy Halloween to all!

Linda, I'm glad you & hubby have finished your projects with vacation days left over to enjoy. Have fun!

Nancy, your Halloween story gives new meaning to the phrase 'dead drunk'. When I was a child, my friend and I found what we thought was a dead body in the bush. It ended up being a mannequin (what it was doing in the bush, I'll never know) but the fright it gave us was just awful.

Ellen, I'm glad you were able to take the day away from work and get some much-needed rest. Working can be extremely difficult when you have FM, I remember that struggle. I hope you feel better now.

To answer your question about treating my menopause symptoms, I presently use HRT but I may need the dosage increased. I'll speak with my doctor at my next appointment and hopefully get some relief.

Thanks for the happy anniversary wishes.

    To Do List

    shower, shampoo
    tidy living room
    make bed
    put dishes away
    clean bathroom
    wrap gifts, card
    enjoy the evening!

I'm looking forward to our anniversary dinner this evening. I love that we're having it sent in, rather than dining out which exhausts me. We're going to have our favourite Egyptian cuisine, exchange gifts, then dress in our Halloween costumes to give out candies. Given that we're both home-bodies, this is the perfect way for us to celebrate our special day.

My profile shows a picture of the happiest couple, celebrating 19 wonderful years together.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

I'm so sorry that so many of you have dentist anxiety. I have never had it until this last year...but now, it's bad. Thankfully, the work is almost done and nothing involving any drilling, pain, or shots is in the future for the rest of this. ( I just deleted a bunch I wrote you!)

I just wish you all will have good dental experienes from now on. Ellen...I have had root canals, and I really didn't mind them at all. Just my experience. Felt a lot better afterwards because all the infection, etc. was gone.

    Anne Theresa...Happy Anniversary....19 years. Hope it's a great celebration.

Lindy...hope the last five days of vacation are fun...you deserve it.

Menopause! Yuck! So glad that it's over; it totally changed me forever...a very hard time.

Hope you all are having a good Halloween. Hope the rest of the week goes well. Ellen, I hope you are feeling better. Glad you decided to rest one day.

You are all such great people...thank you for being such good friends.

    Hello all,

I did spend yesterday shopping with my daughter, stopping by the medical clinic etc...and even made lasagna for dinner for the 4 of us. Haven't made it in a year or so and wow, it turned out well.

So today my housekeeper comes which will help.

I need to finish trimming my dog, my daughter did a good job of getting it started for me yesterday.

Sew and organize again in my sewing room. I like to keep busy when my housekeeper is here.

Make the bed and gather trash.

Ellen, how did it go with your brother?

Anne Theresa, I hope you had a wonderful anniversary. Love the pic of the happy couple.

Dental phobias? Mine are huge....my childhood dentist had his license taken away, finally but not soon enough to scar me for years.

My next dentist was a pervert. He always wiped his dental tools on my boobs. And trust me, at 19 they were almost non-existant but he found them every time.

I've had a hard time making myself go to the dentist ever since although I have had some pleasant ones through the years. It's hard for me because I never live somewhere long enough to create a good relationship with one.

    Hugs all,

It's been a busy morning at work. I have about an hour left before it's time to leave. We had a secretary meeting this morning, which is nothing more than a gab fest really.

We didn't have quite as many trick or treaters to our house last night. Our downtown had a big party so that may have been where some of them were. The weather was perfect-warm and no rain.

Anne Theresa: You and your sweetie look so cute in your costumes! Is there any special reason why you chose Halloween to get married? I hope you enjoyed your anniversary.

Sue: That's for the comforting words about the root canal. I don't know for sure that I have to have one yet, but it's looking that way. My appt. is in two weeks for a consultation with the specialist. It will be nice to be able to eat on that side on my mouth again.

Nancy: Lasagna sounds good. I haven't made that in awhile either. The program yesterday was really good, except the speaker spoke so softly that I had to strain some to hear him. They had the microphone on as loud as they could. He has Asperger's Syndrome (a type of autism) and in the beginning of his speech said he was unable to talk louder (not sure why), but I listened carefully and was able to hear him. His story was quite interesting and I think Jim got something out of it. This man is so interesting. He is able to learn a new language in a matter of a few days and is a genius.

    To-do list:

-sign up for another nine weeks pool therapy class (done)
    -get groceries
    -finish doing laundry
    -pool therapy class

Dental phobia with a reason. How awful...especially the pervert. I just don't get it sometimes. How could people act that way. Hopefully your teeth are good and you don't spend a lot of time in the dental office.

I don't know. Maybe clean tile in shower, get cat food, find someone to watch Felix this weekend, pack some more boxes.

It is a gray day, overcast and dreary. I hate this weather. I will be happy to move to somewhere the sun shines more than not.

Take care, each of you. Will check in tomorrow. Hope I can get this body up and moving today. Just no energy, no motivation.

It's OK, though. I'll make it. No choice.

Our at-home anniversary celebration was lovely, a very special time. I'm truly blessed to have such a wonderful & caring man in my life.

Ellen to answer your question about the anniversary:The anniversary is of a Halloween party nineteen years ago, after which Dave and I made a commitment to each other and decided to live our lives together.

We're not married in the traditional sense I don't know that I'd chose Halloween as a wedding day)yet the anniversary is very special to us and it's apt to occur on such a magical day of the year.

Sue, I'm glad the worse of your dental work is behind you. It's always a relief to have a return to dental health. Take good care.

Nancy, it sounds like you've been busy lately, out & about with your daughter. It's nice that you live so close to each other & enjoy each other's company. On a different subject, I'm glad things are working out with your housekeeper - what a great help that must be.

    To-Do List

    massage therapy session
    pick-up a few groceries
    water plants
    general pick-up & tidy house
fill out extended health care insurance forms
    sweep & mop floors

    God bless,

My husband has really worked a lot of hours this week. They had a big paving job down in Wauseon, Ohio. We thought he was having today off, but he just called me and said he was heading off to work. So our finances are looking good for the moment. We were going to have lunch together, but I will have lunch with Jim instead.

I can't believe it's Friday already! Where did the week go? Of course with having Tuesday off, the week was broken up.

Anne Theresa: Thanks for explaining to me about your anniversary. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it.

Sue: I'm happy to have all of you for friends, too. I like coming to work and getting on this website and seeing what all of you are doing. It is one of the bright spots of my day. I consider us a support group for one another. Sometimes it makes me sad, though, that we will never meet eachother in person.

Nancy: What a terrible experience you had with that dentist! He should have been reported and lost his medical license! I wonder how many other women he did this to? I've had bad experiences with men-the worst was an older neighbor man who molested me when I was 16. I had thought of him as a grandfather. When I told my mother, she just told me not to go over their anymore. As if I wanted to! And that was the end of that. He, too, should have been reported. I guess things were different in those days. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Finally, when I was in my 30's, my boyfriend (who is my husband now) encouraged me to get therapy. I was afraid of men and was so afraid to have men get near me. It took months of therapy before Harry could even kiss me. I am amazed that he stood by my side. He even went to therapy sometimes with me.

    On to my to-do list:

    -lunch with Jim
    -cash husband's and my checks
    -wash bedding and make beds

    Weekend to-do list:

-rake leaves and pull up and cut down flowers
    -dust downstairs in the basement
    -visit with my in-laws
-call my cousin in California (her house was also burned
in the fires in Southern California)
    -rest and relax

    Have a good weekend, everyone!

I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that....

My dentist really just ticked me off. I never thought to turn him in, my family all still go to him...I think they're nuts!!! I've even mentioned it to them about the boob thing and they act like it's normal or something. It's NOT...

Today after waking up at 4:30 again with hubby I pretty much just piddled the day away.

I play (free) online Texas Hold Em and did very well in a tournament, which was fun.

Took a nice bath for pain, and didn't get much else done.

Ooooops, gotta go, I have a feeling I'm going to get lucky, lol!!!!! (Hope I don't offend anyone, it just doesn't happen very often)

I've been putting sweep/mop floors on my to-do lists all week but as of yet, I've not completed the job. So that's what I'm going to focus on today; cleaning my floors. It's a big job so I'll do it bit-by-bit with many rest breaks. I'll do what I can, perhaps leave some for the weekend.

Nancy & Ellen, I'm sorry you both had such unpleasant experiences when you were young. I had a similar experience and it amazes me how many women (my general age) have stories like this from their childhoods. Very seldom were such encounters dealt with legally, it was like the adults of the time expected and considered it normal that their little girls would have such experiences.

In my case, it was my paternal grandfather who was touching me inappropriately and, when I told my mother, she said 'you should have slapped his face - what kind of girl are you to let your grandfather touch you that way?' I was devastated and so young it would never have occurred to me to slap an adult, nor was I physically able, big or strong enough to respond to a full-grown man this way.

My mother, who was an otherwise caring/nurturing/fair woman was caught up in the then-prevailing notion that girls/women brought such advances on themselves through their manner of dress and behaviour. Blame the victim; what a terrible, terrible thing to do.

Hopefully, with today's greater awareness, girls/women who find themselves in such peril have more avenues for justice & support.

I'm going to a birthday party for my niece this evening and so I need to leave time for a nap so I'll have enough energy to attend. Beyond cleaning the floors and attending the party, I won't add anything to my to-do list and it's most likely I'll need to rest tomorrow to make up for today's events.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

AnneTheresa- I went to look at your Halloween party pic and instead I found a bug! Guess I missed it!

Our trip was really nice, even though it was a lot of driving. I have restless leg, so car trips can be murder. But I take mirapex for it, and it knocks me out, so I spend a good part of the trip dozing. Hubby feels sorry for me, but it's better than being in agony. The boys did get some school work done, but we had fun at an aviation museum, so that was educational as well. We saw the Spruce Goose- which, I found out, is not so much spruce as it is birch. Interesting place....the building had to house that huge aircraft, which from wingtip to wingtip is longer than a football field! It's amazing it ever flew.

Cleaning house today and catching up on a pile of laundry. Also, it's the last soccer game....Oh Joy! It was getting mighty cold at the soccer field!

    Hugs to all,
