Didn't see the list posted yet this morning so I'm jumping in again because.....

    I have WONDERFUL news!!!!!!!

My son and my Dad are coming to visit us for Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yippeeeeeeeeeee, Woooooooohooooooooo, and hurrayyyyyy!!!!

I haven't seen my Dad since June of 04 (before my Mom died) and I haven't seen my son since July 05! He's been busy in the Air Force since then and poor thing, he even started boot camp on the day my Mom died, although he was there in the hospital helping up until the day he had to leave. I sent him because I couldn't go myself...

I'm so excited I can't even explain....my son is just a wonderful guy, caring and compassionate, yet funny and a wise arse. Fun to be around (everyone loves him) and he and my Dad are like two peas in a pod together with a very special relationship. (Although my Dad is a stinker and an old crochety fart, which I often remind him of)

With my health being the way it is I had wondered if I'd ever get to see my Dad alive again, so this gives me the opportunity to spend very precious time with him, he's 75.

I'm so proud of my Dad for the life he's made for himself after Mom died...he's living his life how he wants, doing what he wants to do and I think it's very brave of him to hop on a plane and come to Germany to spend the holidays with us.

So...I even got to tell my daughter yesterday while she was having a good day. The visit was supposed to be a surprise, yet the worst kept one yet. She's happy about it too, and they both get to meet her new husband.

My to do list has grown a bit....

Finish up the holiday decorating....bits and pieces here and there...

Pick up daughter after her German class today.

    Water plants

Make a list of the things I need to do before they come.

My husband took the day off today to go to the dentist. He's been in terrible pain since Thanksgiving and hasn't been able to do much this weekend.

And as always, good news is always balanced with the not so good news.

One of my favorite Aunts had a heart attack on Thanksgiving as they were putting her in the car to go home that night. She's been taken off all life support systems and it's only a matter of time, bless her....

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.

I am so excited for you! I cannot imagine not seeing my son, or my mom, my dad died in 2003, for such a long while. WHOOPIEEEEEEEEE is right! How sad about your aunt. I pray she will have a peaceful death.

Linda: So happy your DH is coming home! What a sad time for any loved one to die. Good for you decorating! I have good intentions, but always end up decorating till the last moment!

To everyone else; hope your weekend was peaceful and hope this coming week is a good one, for all.

    Hi all....
Nancy, so good to hear your good news! I know the feeling....I'm missing my daughter in AK now, and haven't seen her for a year. It's too long!

Linda, it was nice of you to fix your hubby's favorite dessert for his homecoming. I hope he managed to stay warm and healthy while travelling. Tell him to take lots of vitamin C.

This weekend my hubby shampooed the living room carpet and we put the room back together. Yesterday, the kids helped with cleaning and I cleaned out the fridge. It definitely looks better- even good enough for MIL and BIL coming on Wed.! I'm fighting off a cold...I don't want to be sick when they come. I'm drinking herbal tea and taking extra C and zinc. I haven't gotten a cold for quite a while, so I think this one should be gone soon.

    Take care, all

    Hi, Girls:

It's so good to be back! Sorry I didn't get a chance to check in with all of you over the Thanksgiving break, but it was busy. I managed to get a little Christmas shopping done and time spent with family. My husband is finally feeling better, but still has a cough.

We finally got our porch closed up and the rest of our leaves raked. I decorated our flower boxes for the winter. I put in evergreen boughs and dried grasses, pine cones, berries, etc. It looks so pretty now.

The day before Thanksgiving I visited with my girlfriend who has six children. We plan to get together and make Christmas cookies together. It's something we've been doing for the past few years and it's become a tradition. I take Jim out, too, and he enjoys decorating cookies.

It sounds like all of you have been as busy as I've been. I did take some time out just to sit and read-one of my favorite ways to relax.

Linda: So sorry to hear about your husband's uncle and that you couldn't spend Thanksgiving together. I remember the year my grandfather died at Christmas and we had Christmas two days later.

Nancy: I am so happy for you that your son and dad will be coming to Germany for Christmas!! I can imagine how excited you are! How wonderful you get to see your father again. How is your daughter doing? I hope she is doing a little better. So sorry to hear about your aunt. So sad that she had a heart attack right on Thanksgiving day.

Kim: How is your mother doing? Did they figure out what was causing the pain?

Anne Theresa: Sounds like you've been pretty busy between cleaning and Christmas shopping. I didn't do the Black Friday this year-I usually don't. My husband and I went to the mall one year on Black Friday-it was a real mad house. You can get some really good buys, though.

Okay, on to my to-do list:

-dental appt. for teeth cleaning. Also, have to talk to
the dentist about what the dental specialist said about
the calcium stones in my teeth and my tooth guard maybe
not fitting properly and causing pain
    -take Jim out for pizza
    -finish dusting
-pick up a Christmas present on the way home (hopefully
    the store will have it)

    Hello all,

I had a nice weekend even though it was cold, cold, cold outside. We went to a play yesterday - it was very funny & enjoyable - then afterward we did our grocery shopping.

Once our shopping was finished, we came home to our warm house, got under the blankets and watched TV for the rest of the night. It was lovely to rest and just be lazy together.

Welcome Back, Ellen! It seems you had a nice holiday, in spite of being so busy. Good for you! It's nice you have an annual Christmas baking date with your friend.

My eldest son has, for years, taken part in an annual bake & share day with five of his friends. They each bake six batches of their favourite kind of Christmas cookie, then they swap so that each of the six friends ends up with six different kinds of cookies, a dozen of each kind.

A brilliant idea, I think, particularly since I'm a fortunate recipient of their annual baking; each Christmas I receive a cookie-tin filled with a lovely variety of cookies.

I'm glad you took some time to yourself to read. Reading is also my favourite way to relax. In fact, I have a new novel that I plan to start reading this evening. It's great for me that sweetie is a bookseller. This makes us privy to advanced reading copies and uncorrected proofs; it's so nice to read books before they're released to the marketplace (and at no cost).

Nancy, I'm happy you'll be able see your dad and son over the holidays. What an especially nice Christmas this will be for all of you. I'm sure your daughter is pleased with the prospect of seeing her brother and grandfather and the opportunity to introduce her husband to these important family members.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt and I'll say a little prayer for her & family during this difficult time.

Terri, it must feel good to have the carpet cleaning behind you. There's nothing like a freshly-cleaned carpet to make a room look & feel clean. I hope your cold does not materialize so that you may better enjoy your company.

Kim, I hope you had a nice weekend. How is you Mother? I hope she's improved. I further hope the underlying cause for her pain etc. will be uncovered and found to be easily & effectively treated.

Linda, I can understand how nice it will be for you to see your DH tomorrow. I'm sure it will be just as nice for him to see you. It's been a sad time for both of you and so doubly difficult to be apart. Blackberry cobbler sounds delicious and worthy of a most joyful homecoming.

As for myself - aside from my daily headaches that are typically relieved with Excedrin - I've been feeling consistently well for several days, a week perhaps. Amen.

I wish there was some rhyme or reason to why we have good/bad days so I could invoke/avoid the casual factors. As always, though, the reason (for why I feel the way I feel) alludes me and all I can do is be (utterly) grateful for the good days and patiently philosophical about the bad days.

    To Do List

    - continue washing walls, living room today
    - spot-clean floors
    - update Christmas shopping list (shopping tomorrow)
    - begin cleaning inside of kitchen cupboards (I plan to clean 2 cupboards per day, until finished)
    - elliptical machine (easy does it!)
    - respond to phone-messages, email
    - read

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

    Good morning all....

Today my daughter wants me to take her to her first psych appt on our nearby base for a med change. Not sure how I got the job because she usually doesn't want me in on the appt but she's hoping I'll take her.

Hopefully this will eliminate our need to drive to Heidelburg for her treatments. This base is 15 minutes away but now that she's a military wife she can have privileges there.

Hubby's still staying home today with pain from his dental work. He was up half the night again. I'm hoping he starts to feel better soon so he can start helping around the house again, I need the help!!

I have so many things to do I can't even begin to list them!!!

Ellen, so glad you're back on board again...I look forward to your posts.

Linda, I'm sorry you've been having a rough time, but I'm glad that your husband's back home with you.

Anne Theresa, I might have asked this before but can't remember...do you run a humidifier in your house to help with the headaches? I always get them in winter when the inside air is dry from running the heater.

Terri, I wish I had clicked 'reply and shift' at the same time so I could remember what everyone has written....but I didn't, oooops!

And thank you all for the prayers and well wishes for my Aunt. She truly was a special lady...

Hugs and good health to all,

    Nancy B

Nancy- I gather that your aunt has now passed on....I know she will be missed.

AnneTheresa- I think you are a better cleaner than I am. My cabinets sorely need cleaning, but I doubt the job will get done any time soon. I like how you are doing two cabinets a day, until they are done. Good plan.

Nice to hear from Ellen, too! I think Jim is lucky to have you for a sister- you're always so good to him.

Linda- how is your hubby after the long trip home?

I have some last minute cleaning to do yet before company arrives tomorrow. We are soaking a turkey in brine to try for dinner tomorrow night.....I've heard that is "the" way to fix turkey now. It's just a simple sugar-salt solution and you soak it for 24 hours. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Stay well, everyone!

I'm beginning to think my cat, Chelsea, knows how to tell time. The last few mornings she jumps on my bed and meows at me just before 6:30 (when I have to get up). I think animals do have a sense of time.

My dentist looked at my tooth guard yesterday and determined that my guard wasn't fitting quite properly. She said your mouth can change over time and I've had this guard for quite a few years. So she did some grinding on it and it does feel differently now. Where she did the grinding is where I've been having the pain in my teeth. So hopefully this will help.

Terri: Thanks for the kind words about me being a good sister to my brother, Jim. He does bring a lot of joy to my life, especially now that he is mentally doing much better. I plan to have him over soon to help me decorate our Christmas tree and listen to Christmas music. He loves to listen to Christmas music.

Nancy: I hope your daughter's psychiatric appt. goes well. Hopefully your dad and son's upcoming visit will brighten her mental outlook.

Anne Theresa: My friend and I do have fun baking cookies and her children enjoy it, too. Jim doesn't help too much with the baking, but he does enjoy the decorating part. That's so nice how your son and his friends do baking together and give you some.

Well, I should be getting back to working on student class evaluations. This week and next professors are having their classes evaluated.

    To-do list:

    -dust basement
    -vacuum hard floors
    -pool therapy class

Nancy...so happy your son will be home! And, so sorry about your aunt.

To all...hope this season leaves you well.

Much to do: leaving on Thursday to pick up new 5th wheel.

It's cold & windy outside, I'm not relishing the idea of going outside to go shopping this eve. Hopefully, my friend and I will stick to the climate-controlled malls and only brave the weather to-and-from our excursion.

Nancy, thanks for the idea about running a humidifier. Our inside air is particularly dry and staticy so I'm sure a humidifier is a good idea. I'll look into that for sure.

I've never heard of soaking a turkey in brine prior to cooking, Terri, but it sounds like it would add flavour & tenderness. I used to love making turkey with all the trimmings. My mother taught me well and my holiday dinners were always a hit.

I've been vegetarian now for 15+ years and so the few holiday meals I host are usually of an alternative nature. This year, since we so enjoyed our anniversary dinner, we've decided to order in an Egyptian vegetarian variety platter for the five of us (me, sweetie, 2 sons & daughter-in-law). This should make our Christmas celebration easy-to-prepare and delish.

Ellen, I'm glad your tooth-guard was adjusted and I hope this eases your pain & discomfort. I agree with you that animals have a sense of time. My father's collie used to set himself at the door a good ten minutes before my dad arrived home from work each day. The dog would watch & wait, then break into a happy-dance when my dad came up the street. It was fun to watch and that unconditional love our pet show to us is like nothing else in the world.

Sue, thanks for checking in. I hope all is well with you and that your house-building project is running a bit smoother now. God bless.

I'm saving most of today's energy for a Christmas shopping trip this eve. There are a few things that need to be done around the house but nothing that can't wait until tomorrow. I'm going to read for a bit, have a bite to eat, maybe take a little nap, then get up, dressed and go.

I'm so grateful for my best friend who takes me shopping and/or to run my errands each and every Tuesday eve. She is so sweet, so kind and helpful and she totally 'gets' my limitations, though she doesn't have a chronic illness herself.

I'm truly blessed with the people in my life, including you - my to-do list friends - who keep me grounded and motivated to do my best even when I feel poorly.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

Woke up at 4:00 again this morning so a nap is in my immediate plans. Hopefully this will give me some energy to get through the rest of the day.

I need to pick my daughter up again after her German class today.

Still have some decorating to finish up around the house, then take the Christmas containers back down to storage to finish getting the house ready for our guests.

Need to buy some sympathy cards...

My daughter's new doc (she liked her very much) is conferring with her old doc about the new med change, so here we go again. Hopefully the new doc will go with her instincts and try something new. I'll let you all know how it goes.

My goal is to have the house done and decorated, gifts wrapped etc by Dec 1. I want to sit back and enjoy the holidays and my Son and Dad when they get here without have a long list of things I still need to do.

    Hugs all,

    Nancy B

I had a flare-up of my interstitial cystitis later yesterday afternoon (chronic bladder inflammation in case no one here has this). I did make it to my pool class thinking the warm water would help and it did, but once I got home, it really started in again with the achy, crampy pain in the bladder that spread to my pelvic area, lower back and down my left leg. I went to bed for the rest of the day.

My good husband served me dinner (I did manage to put a roast in the oven), did the dishes, got the junk ready for pick-up today, put laundry in the dryer, etc. so I could rest. Sorry this is so long, but I feel much better and slept pretty well. Fortunately, I don't have these flare-ups too often.

Anne Theresa: That was a cute story about your dad and his dog. We used to have a dog like that in our neighborhood when I was a child. He was a neighbor's dog. He would come down and wait by the bus stop just a few minutes before the bus would come. I, too, feel fortunate for the friends in my life and for all of you here. It is one of the bright spots in my day coming to work and seeing what all of you are up to.

Nancy: I hope your daughter's new doctor will be able to help her. It's great that she likes her and hopefully the doctor will not just duplicate what the old doctor has done.

I do plan on some extra rest this afternoon since I was sick yesterday, but as usual I have some things I would like to do if I'm up to it. It looks to be a quiet day at work and I plan to pace myself all day.

    -vacuum kitchen and bathroom
    -catch up on ironing
-burn leaves in garden (hopefully they have finally dried
    out so they will burn)
    -leftovers for dinner

It's supposed to be sunny and mild today-high of 45-not bad for almost December. I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello folks. I exhausted myself shopping last eve. but joy-of-joys, I'm now 95% finished my Christmas shopping. I have an annual Christmas-shopping date with my sister (upcoming) and so I'll leave the last few things to purchase then.

Now comes the gift-wrapping but that particular task has been made much easier since I started using tissue paper and gift bags instead of wrapping paper and bows. I've done much to simplify the holiday over the years so Christmas is not nearly as much work or as stressful for me as it used to be.

I've been puttering today and most of my daily chores are out of the way. A few small things left to do:

    - vacuum
    - dust/polish bedroom/office
    - empty wastebaskets
    - water plants

Ellen, I'm sorry to hear about your bladder inflammation yesterday, I know how unpleasant and painful that can be. I'm glad your husband took such good care of you and that you're feeling better today.

Nancy, I'm glad your daughter likes her new doctor. Sometimes a new medical perspective can do wonders for the patient, I hope this is the case.

It's great you're getting all your Christmas prep. finished, so you can better enjoy your dad and son when they arrive. I'm sure you want nothing to distract from the precious and quality time with your family.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

I got a lot of puttering and putzing done yesterday so that helps my list for today, yet I'm still in that time before guests when the list seems daunting.

I 'need' to rearrange my linen closet to fit more things in.

Need to wash my sheets and towels, yet I don't often get laundry done when my daughter's at home since she often needs me on a moment's notice. (My washer and dryer is in the basement of the building)

I'm hoping to finish up some wrapping this morning so I can get the box of paper and stuff out from under my coffee table, that'll make the living room look better!!

Housekeeper comes again today, that helps!

Ellen, I hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Thanks again all for the encouraging words regarding my daughter. They have yet to change her meds because the old doc hasn't responded yet...hopefully she's picked up her old prescription so she isn't going without her meds.

Yes, I am feeling better now. Thanks for asking. I got a surprise when I got home yesterday-no electricity or water! (we have a well so when there's no electricity, no water either). My neighbor said the electric company was working by the nearby golf course so it was just a matter of waiting it out. After a couple of hours, it came back on. While I was waiting, I did some yard work and burned some leaves. The fire felt good! I put a comforter on the bed for my kitties to snuggle in.

    To-do list:

    -grocery shopping
    -catch up on ironing
    -pool therapy class
    -work on Christmas cards

Ellen...glad you're feeling better. You leaf fire sounded lovely...and kitties in a comforter. So snuggly.

Nancy...your daughter has had such a time. Hope the old doc gets in touch with the new doc soon. She really needs someone to follow her closely so she can lead a normal life.

Leaving today to pick up our new 5th wheel. Be gone overnight.

Just doing a load of wash and then will pack for the short trip.

Leaving about 1 PM for about a 4-5 hour trip. Tired to the bone from traveling and from all the things going on in our lives right now.

But, God is good and He keeps me going...anyone else know this feeling? (-: I'm sure I see many hands raising!

Hang in there, each one. Have a good few days and stay well. May we all enjoy this time of year much more than stress over what needs to be done or bought or whatever.

That's my goal, anyway...and my wish for all of you!

I have a regularly scheduled doctor's appointment this afternoon and I'm going to ask about having my HRT increased. As I mentioned to you before, after ten years of menopause, the symptoms are getting worse instead of better. Hopefully, he'll agree to the increase.

Before I leave to go to the doctor's, I'd like to take a shower/shampoo, make the bed, and put the dishes away. Then, after my doctor's appointment, I'll come home and wash the hardwood floors if I have enough energy left. Beyond that, I'm going to snuggle under the duvet and read.

Preparing for company can be a lot of work, Nancy. I can surely relate to having such a daunting to-do list. I'll be preparing the house for my own family soon. Though not confirmed, I expect my sons & daughter-in-law will be here for a few days around the 15th.

Ellen, whenever the electricity goes down - even for a short time - I become acutely aware of how dependent I am on this source of power. During our last black-out I was surprised to learn my new cordless phone (our only house phone) wouldn't work because it uses electricity in addition to the phone lines.

I promised myself I'd buy an old, electricity-free phone, in preparation for the next time the power goes off, but I completely forgot until just now (making myself a note - thanks for jogging my memory).

Sue, I hope your trip goes well and that the travel-time doesn't add to your pain & discomfort. I surely do know the feeling of God helping me throughout the day. I've always had faith but since becoming ill, my life has become a prayer and I rely on Him completely.

    God bless,
    Anne Theresa

This has been a busy morning so far at work. I decided I had better get on here soon.

As usual, I have a busy afternoon planned. I need to pick up Jim and we are getting haircuts. Then stop at the bank and cash paychecks. I'd like to get some Christmas decorating done this weekend and hopefully finish my shopping. Next week I'd like to get my cards done. Yesterday I got my first Christmas card in the mail!

Anne Theresa: You're right-we realize how dependent we are on electricity when we have to go without it. Water, too. I realized I couldn't use our cordless phone on Wednesday since that also uses electricity! Fortunately, I was able to use the one in the bedroom.

Sue: Have a good trip. I take it Felix is staying home?

    to-do list for today:

    -haircuts for Jim and me
-pick up gift card for mother-in-law
    -washing bedding
    -get meat ready for freezer
    -make spaghetti for dinner

    list for weekend:

    -continue working on Christmas cards

Well, back to work. Talk to everyone on Monday!

My husband thinks it's his day off, but after a week of pain from his tooth, and he's finally feeling better now, I'm going to work him hard today.

So many little things to get done, but none of them exhausting or difficult. Just lots of running around. Hang this, fix this wire, dig through the storage, etc...

My daughter and I spent both Thursday and Friday Christmas shopping. Both were wonderful days spent together.

They still haven't changed her meds, the old doc still hasn't responded so she called the new doc yesterday and insisted that we change the meds by Monday. I was so proud of her, I know that's a phone call she didn't want to make.

So for today we will hang this, fix that wire, dig through storage for my larger pots and pans to my new set, since I'll be cooking for 6 this season.

    Wish me luck!!

    Happy Holiday Hugs all,

Was having fits, but hubby was able to fix it, so I'm baaaaaack!

We're having a nice time with my MIL and BIL.....went on a little trip out of town today. It was snowy and windy.....brrrr! But we saw some pretty sights and did a little shopping, so that was fun.

Nancy, when does your family arrive? I think you said around the 15th........
and how long can they stay? I hope you have a great visit.

Take care all, and see you on next week's post!
