I have been on short term disability since February. When do I apply for social security disability? I am not working, but I am getting 60% of my income.

thanks for your help. I tried to read on the website but my brain is too muddled.

You can apply for SSDI if you are expected to not be able to work for at least a year. You can apply the first day that you don't work as long as it is expected that you will be disabled for at least one year. Hope this helps you. Be sure to list all medical conditions that affect your ability to work, including psychological/mental impairments.

If you feel that your illness is going to last another 6 months, then I would go ahead and file for your SSDI.

Please refer to the sticky area at the top of each page. There is a thread for SSDI information where you can ask questions. There are already some good posts on there.

Also, there is a yahoo group called disinissues for help with disabilty.
