    Hi Diane

This is a pretty tough test for me as I never watched any of these programs
and have a mild case of prosopagnosia (inability or difficulty in recognizing
faces). Didn't realize I had it till I was middle aged.

    1. No idea. Not sure if it's a man or a woman.
    2. Cat Woman? Julie Newmar.? I think there have been several catwomen
over the years. (I guess it took more than one since catwomen apparently
    don't have 9 lives.)

    3. This one I know. Mr Ed and Alan Young.
    4. Haven't the faintest.

    5. Gordon says it's Elizabeth Montgomery in Bewitched. A show that's still
on the air after half a century.

    OK, who's this?

    You guys got 'em all!

I never knew that Cora (the Maxwell House coffee lady) was also the Wicked Witch!

I did recognize Batgirl (Yvonne Craig, I think?).

Mr. Ed was one of my fave shows.

I never saw It's About Time.

And I don't think I saw the Bewitched "Aliens" episode, but I did watch Bewitched every week.

Charles Lane was a great character actor. I just couldn't think of his name. But I do remember his face.

I'll try to find more pics. Any and all are welcome to post pics and continue the game.

    Hugs, Diane

Right, GB. Charles Lane. My favorite character actor. He was on 4 Lucy
episodes including the one where he was her business manager. Lived to be
    100 or so.

Didn't recognize Imogene Coca. She was on the very popular Sid Caesar
show in the early days of TV. She was also on an episode of the Mama's
Family decades later. Played Aunt Gert. Plus lots of other screen and
    stage work.

Maybe I'll put up some pics of character actors.

Even after learning that number one is Margaret Hamilton, she doesn't look
anything like the Wicked Witch of the West to me.

I just read Margeret Hamillton's bio online. She was a very accomplished lady. She has been a kindergarten teacher and a promoter of animal rights. She said children were often afraid of her when they recognized her as the wicked witch, and she went to great lengths to let them know that it was just a role she played.

OK, Here are some well known character actors. They generally played small
parts, but sometimes more. On a few occasions they played leading rolls.

When an actor comes to me and wants to discuss his character, I say, 'It's
in the script.' If he says, 'But what's my motivation?, ' I say, 'Your salary.'

    Alfred Hitchcock

I was always a character actor. I just looked like Little Red Riding Hood.
    Paul Newman

Acting is all about honesty. If you can fake that, you've got it made.
    George Burns

    All the world's a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts.

    Rock --

    Great pics!

I have to admit: YOU STUMPED ME WITH ALL OF THEM!

I think I recognize a couple, but I can't place a name to a face. Kevin said the same thing, as he was watching me browse the pics.

I wonder what GB has to say!

    Later, friends

GB says these are hard! :)

    4. Spring Byington - She was in many films, tv shows and on Broadway. She starred in the tv show December Bride.

    5. Jack Gilford - I remember him in many tv shows but lastly, as Sophia's boyfriend/husband on Golden Girls.

    6. May be Charles Laughton.

    7. Is it Ethel Barrymore?

    Hi Kids

Yup, GB, Spring Byington and Jack Gilford. All these people were in lots of plays,
movies and TV shows. Check 'em out on the net if you're curious.

I saw Jack Gilford live twice. Once with the Met. He played a non singing role
in Die Fledermaus. Slid down a flight of stairs on his back; twice!

I also saw him in 1973 when he and Jack Lemon were filming Save the Tiger a
block from our law school. The two of them bought tickets and walked into
a gaudy movie house named the Mayan. Built in 1927 the theater has been many
things over the years including a venue for live acts. Apparently it is now a
    night club.

1 Laura Hope Crews in her costume as Aunt Pitty Pat Hamilton. She was the
Aunt of Melanie and Charles (Scarlett's first husband).
2 Sterling Holloway. Was a neighbor on the Life of Riley TV show and the
    voice of Pooh for Disney.

3 Fred Clark. Fred also played a neighbor. Might have been on the George and
Gracie show. He frequently played military officers.

6 Charles Coburn. Played a lead role in one of Nelson Eddie's musicals.
Sang September Song even though he didn't have much of a voice.
7 Jane Darwell. Played a lead role in Grapes of Wrath. I read her last
role was as the bird woman in Mary Poppins.

Sterling Holloway and Fred Clark are very familiar faces but couldn't remember their names. Didn't Sterling have a funny voice? Seems I remember something about that. Fred Clark looks like a banker! GB

GB, Sterling did lots of voices, especially for Disney. There's a short
tribute to him on Youtube and lots of clips. He had a tenor voice despite
    being about 5' 10".

I think Fred Clark usually played authoritative characters like bankers,
    judges, officers, etc.

Being a character actor during the days of the studios must have been a
great job. Good pay and little pressure. If the movie was a flop it was
the fault of the stars or the director or the writers. And they had a more
normal life outside the glare of the press and public scrutiny.

Donald Meek, another prolific C. Actor.
