WHY CAN'T I GO TO SLEEP?

I'm so tired and it's like my body just won't shut down until it's good and ready. I hurt all over, have taken all of my meds for the day and it's near midnight. I hate this. I know I'll pay for it tomorrow. Does anyone else with FMS go through this? Some nights I can at least go to sleep by 10, even if I am up and down several times a night at least I got some sleep. Then there are these nights where my mind just won't shut off. The worst part is I can't read (too easily distracted), I feel like I rattle around the house in a constant state of FOG!

Sorry, just blowing off steam...I get so frustrated.

    Thanks for listening, Sheried

I have been going through this since 1987. I cannot remember the last time I got more than 2-3 hours of sleep in one night unless I was drugged from surgery or something. I do get a nap sometimes during the day but it is never a continuous sleep and never refreshing.
Between the pain and the horrible fatigue I just never make it to the "sleep" thing. I know know how horrible it is. Please ... talk to your dr and try to get some help. Hang in there. You are in my prayers and thoughts.

I just couldn't sleep even tho I was so exhausted . Then about 3 weeks ago I started taking Valerian. It's a herb that is non addictive and aids sleep. It's been amazing! I'm now sleeping better than I have in years. It took a few nights ,but each time I slept better....I'm so much less foggy in the day now. I really recommend trying it, it has really worked for me, I don't have any thoughts racing thru my head now, I just put my head down and feel totally relaxed. I don't always drop straight off but my mind is calm and I'm not constantly looking at the clock hands go round! Try it!!

I have had the same problem for a number of years. My body was so tired I could hardly function. I have just been diagnosed with depression, due to the death of my son. My doctor has started me on low dosages of Xanax and Lexapro. The last 3 nights are the first time I've had more than 4 hours sleep in years. I am beginning to feel some better. Have you been to the doctor to see if you have any medical problems that need to be addressed? Good luck.

    you can try this:

    - Calms Forte - is made by Hyland's. It is a homeopathic remedy used as a relaxant for insomnia. This natural herbal product is in small tablet form. I've been taking 2 tabs before bedtime. I get it from my naturopath, but you could look for it at natural food and health stores.

    - Sleep aid tincture - is a liquid formula that my naturopath makes up for me. The combination includes Melissa, Scutelloria, Passiflora, and Black Cohose. She makes it up in a 2 oz. bottle with a glass dropper. I am prescribed 1 and a half teaspoons before bedtime.

I hope this helps some of you. Consistent and sustained level 4 sleep is necessary for us all.

I don't think any of us can sleep without the aid of medication. Have you tried trazadone? It has worked for me for the past 7 years. I take 100 mgs. a night. It is safe, non addictive, and gives me a great night's sleep. Just thought I would mention this in case you have not tried it. Toots

I know exactly what you are going through, I have the same problem.

For the last 2 nights I have only slept for 2 hours each night.

I feel so tired and the Fibro Fog is so bad from lack of sleep.

But, I just cannot go to sleep.

Go to our library and do a search on Klonopin. Read Dr. Cheney's article on it. He does an excellent job of explaining our insomnia, along with anxiety, racing brain, muscle spasms, and sensory overload.

I finally fell asleep at about 3 this morning and got up at 6 to get my ten year old off to school. Went back to bed and slept until almost 1pm.

I am on klonopin 1 mg 3xday, elavil and robaxin at night, zoloft, robaxin in am, and percocet for pain as needed.

I am waiting for an appointment with a pain management specialist. Maybe they can get my meds straight.

As far as medical, the list is long...PTSD, FMS, Poss. RA, Depression, Anxiety, Herniated C5/6 with imp. at C6/7 (fusion). And stress! HA! I am waiting on disability. That about explains it I think. I'm a little foggy, but I think that's it.

Mikie, I will go and read that article.

MildredAnn, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Love you guys, Sheried
