I have always had moderate acne, since I was 10 years old. But in the last 6 months or so, it's just gotten way out of hand. I don't know if it's the medication I've been on or just another freakin' symptom of this darn illness. It seems more prevelant over my cheeks and chin. It almost looks like I have a disease(they aren't your average zits, they are mainly red bumps and once in a while I get a head on them). I have tried over the counter medicine for acne, prescription anti-biotics, even tried cream the doctor presribed for acne-didn't work. I wash my face, don't wear alot of makeup, don't eat tons of junk.. WHAT GIVES HERE? I know that my body feels broken on the inside, but at least I still had my freakin' looks! I'm even starting to notice it on my chest, back and neck! Anyone else have such a drastic acne change like that?

I never had acne before. I would break out on my back when I was pregnant but that would clear up by the third trimester. But now, my face is breaking out all the time, especially my chin, neck and hairline. I don't know if it is a side effect from the FMS or what but I can't stand it.

I just want to share what my daughter uses that has helped hers a LOT. She uses a prescription medicine called Tazorac---it's a topical cream, and it comes in 2 strengths. The stronger one is too harsh for most people, you'll dry out your skin. The lesser strength is what my daughter uses, putting it on sparingly just where she needs it. It has done wonders for her face.

I would read about it online first because I have no idea how it would interact with medications you are already on. And my daughter doesn't have FM, just typical teenage acne. But you might want to ask your doctor about it & see what he/she thinks.

just a thought...

and other skin problems. It will leave your face glowing. I began using it for occasional acne with my periods, and very, very dry skin. It did wonders! It also says it is for any skin problems...and it gave testimonials for problems including acne, herpes, dry skin,etc..... I think you may be able to get it at some GNC stores now. Daneen

Hi. I believe you may need to see a dermatologist soon.....it doesn't sound like a normal case of acne. My son had a very serious case of acne that appeared very quickly and didn't respond to the docotor's medications. The dermatologist said most doctor's prescribe the wrong meds which is what happened. So he prescribed more meds and treatment after several months he was fine. He would have scarred horribly--but after treatment his skin is perfect again.

I have rosacea--often confused with a Lupus rash--it requires medication. But a rash on the face, chest and back could be something else entirely---maybe shingles, maybe not??? Only a dermatologist could tell you for sure and give you the best treatment and it would be well worth your time and money.

Good luck.

I had very bad acne as a kid and the doc subscribed high dosage of antibiotics, killed all the good bacteria in the stomac, and weakend my immune system. I now realize that it caused quite a bit of damage to the immune system. MDs are not very good at finding out the real cause of acne. About 4 years ago I saw a chinese traditional herbal practitioner and she put me on herbs and told me to avoid fried food as this would make it worse. You could also look into you diet and avoid processed foods, and take some B vitamins for the skin and omega oils and zinc for healing. If you do a search on the internet you might find info on diet and vitamins for acne. I've come to the conclusion after having lots of other skin conditons that MDs and even skin specialist are not very good at tackling skin conditons.

I've used proactiv for years. It keeps it under control. Not cheap. The store remedies seem to be to harsh or make mine much worse.I heard once that people who only have it on the chin, that toothpaste can be a trigger.

Yep

I have it too. My acne has been really bad over the last 2 years and moderate beofre that for about 4 years. And I am 49 now. When it first started my doctor had the nerve to joke that I should appreciate that it makes me look like a teenager. Mine too aren't your average zits either, and seem mostly to be well under the skin cyst like painful, irritating bumps. I think it is related to FM and perimenopause. I have been treated by a dermatologist for over 4 years with a huge variety of drugs and expensive topical things and it is just getting worse. In a few weeks I go back and to a new Derma that told me in late Oct at my first visit that if it hadn't improved he would try me on acutane. Hopefully that will work with minimal side effects because now it has become just plain painful as well as unsightly.

Find a Doctor who might approach your problems from
a hormone level.
Often, too many androgens will cause for that wild
acne that can't be controled with other meds.
Finding out if too many androgens are causing your
acne can also be health saving in the long run.
Too many androgens can go on to cause all kinds
of health problems including high blood pressure.
There are antiandrogenic medications that help to block
the effect of androgens.
Hope this helps with giving you some new questions to
ask the Doctor.

My son was on medicine that could cause liver damage--so I had to take him to the lab for tests every 4 weeks. After my son stopped taking this medicine there was a warning on TV that this medicine was causing some teenagers to commit suicide. My son was fine and his skin is perfect now.

But be sure to ask your doctor about the side effects caused by acne medicine.

I have had the exact kind of acne you are talking about.

First, make sure your hormones are all in balance. Esp. thyroid and androgens. Low thyroid can cause acne, especially the cysts/hives kind like you describe.

Or taking too much DHEA or Cortef or other steroids can cause acne as a side effect. Most of us do not naturally have too much of these hormones, but too little, because of our CFS.

If those things are all okay, then try some TOA free cat's claw. The brand names are Samento and Saventero.

Since I started taking the cat's claw, my acne has cleared up. I believe it was caused by a bacterial infection I had picked up over the years of having CFS.

A topical treatment that works very well to heal all kinds of sores and blemishes is called "Jozzer Gel". It's made by a company called "The Connections Group".

It is a gel that contains oxygen. It is minimally irritating and very healing. (If they hadn't "improved" it by putting vitamin C in it, it wouldn't be irritating at all. Sigh.)

I hope this helps!

I never had acne other than mild teenage acne - now, in my 40's, I'm getting constant face, neck, and ear acne - very annoying!!!!

In my 30's, I suddenly developed severe acne, which spread from my face to my back, neck and even upper arms.

I saw a dermatologist, who prescribed Accutane for me. It's not for everyone, and you must be sure to check out the side effects, etc., but it worked for me. The acne has never returned (I'm 53 now).

Hugs,
Twerp

just went to one yesterday not necesarily for allover acne but I keep getting these recurring cystsic zits same ones in the same place they never really go away.... she put me on doxycycline and injected them with a steroid..they are down already she told me that some people have acne that just lies under the skin and doesn't make it up to the top... wonderful LOL
anyway I bought a line of cleansers and lotions and junk that make my skin glow its called Skinceuticals
I got the :clarifying cleanser, ultimate UV defense moisturizing protection for the morning ...then in the evening I use the cleanser again with retinol 1.0 and renew overnight oily (moisturizer) (this stuff costs an arm and a leg)
one more thing... when I had the worst breakouts was before I found out I was allergic to MILK!! whenever I have a dairy product I get a big zit!! so maybe try a food elimination diet maybe something you are eating

hi.... I don't have such acne problem from 10 years. But I have consistency in my acne problem. I don't understand why it happens again and again yes I am badly suffer from it.
But what I found is the main reason for acne is dust and dirt. As much we keep our skin clean as we can safe from acne problem until unless we don't have any bacterial infection in our blood or body. I live in very polluted city of India where it is very hard to get away yourself from dirt and dust so I am also looking for Acne Treatment in Ludhiana to keep my face smooth and clean.

One of the things I learned from my dermatologist is that acne is also caused by our sleeping pattern, what we eat and our mental health as well (aside from dirt and genetics). During this quarantine, I also had changes with my sleeping pattern which I think is the cause of why I'm breaking out right now. AND I stopped exercising. I think it's also one of the reasons why I'm breaking out.

Recently, I've been trying this (link removed by moderator) I found online and I'll update you how it goes.
