May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month!

Lyme is a multi-system disease and is often associated with co-infections such as Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Mycoplasma, Powassan virus, Tularemia and more. Some of these infections have multiple species that are not always tested for. Testing in general is not very reliable, which can leave many people sick, misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for years.

There are also 2 standards of care for the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease. Insurance usually only pays for the short term standard. The IDSA standard is the short term standard. ILADS is the longer term standard that believes in treating the patient until they are well.

I encourage everyone to learn more about Lyme disease and co-infections.

Here are some good sites to learn more:

www.ilads.org

www.palyme.org (also has great prevention info on their site under the Dare 2B Tick Aware tab...scroll to the bottom of that page and look for the 4 Dare brochures)

www.lymedisease.org

Dr Steven Phillips & Dana Parish have some great informative videos on youtube.

There are also good articles on ProHealth's Lyme disease news homepage.

Learn the facts so you can protect yourself and your family from tick bites and help educate others.

So true, bct!
We are making some headway, but have a long way to go before people receive timely and proper testing, diagnosis and treatment which insurance should cover but doesn't.
