Good Friday Morning, Kids,

Time for a new Porch. Since our discussions have focused on cows, I thought I'd post these very hip cows out for a walk. Perhaps they are on their way to Julie's.

I'll stop back in after I read the online newspaper.

Love, Mikie

Since Rock got caught in the door, and I'm up early this morning, I'll move his post over here before I pour my first cup of coffee...

Morning, Kids

Yesterday was another one of those goofy days where I get day and night mixed up.
It doesn't really cause any problems. Just a further indication of how I'm falling apart.
Gordon bought another cinnamon cake. Good for him; he deserves a treat now and then.
Well, we all do.

The only thing I know about today is that we are going to the nearby library. We have
several books to pick up. I think they are all ones I put on hold. Some new authors I'm
trying out.

Mikie, at our previous house we had squirrels in the back yard. There were a couple large
trees and several small fruit trees. The apples were much better than the ones at the
supermarket. The squirrels never threw pine cones or anything else. Probably Amish
squirrels.

No "perchance" about Gordon napping. He has a nap every day. So do I.

Got an e mail from my Minnesota brother. He sent an old pic of his grandson Max who
was brand new at the time. Taken at the hospital. His Mom is in bed with him on her lap.
She's reading some woman's mag. I suggested he send the pic to the Mag. Maybe they'd
like to run it again. Max is now 12. He and his Dad live next door to my brother. Mom
died from cancer a few years ago. I can't remember with certainty the name of my cousin.
I can't look in the genealogy book becaise I gave it to my brother last Christmas. Uff-da!

My brother is preparing another local show. Sometimes he uses old scripts from radio
shows. Sometimes he writes them. I'm the one who is crazy about old show biz, but he's
the one who is involved in it. One of the books I'm picking up today is about Fay Wray and
someboody. Maybe a director.

Best wishes to everydobby. Rock

Hi, Kids,

Just stopping in. Got rid of a spammer within a minute of his posting. Love that kind of timing. Finished reading the paper. Waste of time.

Julie, thanks for moving Rock's post over to the new Porch. I've already had my cup of coffee and it woke me up.

Rock, too bad you didn't make a copy of the genealogy book before giving it to your bro. I don't have many cousins my age left alive and their children aren't close. I enjoyed seeing the family tree on my father's side but really don't want to pursue it as it is expensive to belong to Ancestry. Didn't get too far on building one on my Mom's side. I'm not sure why our squirrels are so war like but the ones living in squirrel condos in the palm trees by our balcony are not like their aggressive brothers in the live oaks. There is a live oak by our mailboxes and it's fun to see the squirrels hurl the acorns at people getting their mail. These squirrels also have a war call. Scary stuff. Claudia has some vicious squirrels behind her condo but that area has some feral cats which may splain it. Hope you get some great books today. I'm reading one in the style of John Irving but not quite as good. It's about a boy who had no pigment in his eyes rendering them red like an albino. Lots of satire about growing up Catholic.

OK, I'm outta here. Think I'll take an allergy pill and have a cup of decaf. Hope all y'all have a great end to the week.

Love, Mikie

Good Friday morning, friends! At least I think it's Friday...hard to tell sometimes, lol! Well, we knew this was gonna happen sooner or later, but still a bit of a shock to the system...42 degrees at the moment (5:30 am here) with an expected high of only 57. Works for me, but my hubby will be cold...we plan to go get a load of firewood this morning

Mikie, what a cute pic of the cows...I'm not sure if any of our thugs wear sunglasses or not cause I usually only see the "south end" as I'm chasing them back up the lane :D. Yep, they got out again yesterday and we had to escort them back home before I even left for town. The owners were at work, so I drove back down to Lorene's to vent my frustration to her since she understands cause their little girls have to dodge stray cattle to walk to and from school.

Since this situation involved Amish neighbors (and we are the only "English" people, stuck in the middle) I asked her what we should do about it. She said her husband is going to talk to the owners of the cows (it's not like they don't know they're getting out, but...) and he will probably mention how frustrated we are all getting. And Lorene's dad is in charge of the "liability group" that would take care of expenses if, say, a cow got on the road and someone hit it with a vehicle and had damage or got hurt. This group would certainly want their members to be following the rules (of maintaining fences, etc., etc.) Scary part is that there is a bull in with the cattle, but he hasn't gotten out yet...only the calves, yearlings, and moms (cause the calves and yearlings then start bawling.)

I'm certainly not afraid to say something myself, Den either, but we are choosing to let the Amish people handle this situation...but if it's not resolved soon...

Anyway...speaking of pressure cookers. My MIL told me about a friend of hers who was cooking a roast in hers...must not have had the lid on good, cause it blew off and the roast ended up on top of one of the upper cupboards...scary! I've used mine a lot in the past, but was very careful. And just always let the pressure come down on its own instead of rushing it by running cold water over the top.

Barry, I stopped at the walk-in clinic yesterday while in town. My lungs sounded clear...ears, nose, throat looked fine...doc agreed that I'm keeping "anything worse" at bay with my home remedies. Of course, bed rest would be preferred to chasing cattle, lol...but that's life on the farm. Since I've been seen now, if I get worse, I can call and they'll prescribe something if I need it...but I try to stay off meds whenever possible. I did talk to Amy and tell her I won't be traveling to Keira's volleyball game this weekend...but we hope to get there on the 13th for her last game (it's also her 12th birthday, Den's is the 11th, and we usually celebrate them together.)

Granni, how did your luncheon go? I ate at Taco Johns (late lunch while in town) and brought Hardees home for supper. And bought a deli chicken to heat up sometime today...sometimes it's just necessary to let someone else do the cooking, lol!

Sun, did you make it to your art groups this week? I've been missing your posts...hope you're okay.

Rock, that must have been some macrame project (the big one that took up so much space.) When Den's dad died, sis returned a macrame hanger with a big homemade candle in it that Den and I had given his mom when we were first married. We had no money to buy Christmas gifts so we made candles and macrame for family and friends. My MIL had this hanging in her living room for over 40 years, lol! Needless to say, the yellow and green candle had faded...and the color had rubbed off onto the white macrame holder...so I didn't keep it. No use having it around for our kids to have to dispose of, true?

Mikie, I see you just posted. Speaking of squirrels...our resident squirrel has been so busy stocking up on walnuts. He's running around the yard every time I look out, go to the clothesline, etc. Oreo used to try to chase the squirrels, but I think decided they are just too fast :) That owl macrame looks like a good project.

Star, did hubby make it there and back okay? How are things with you, and the kiddos?

So, Den just peeked his head in to see why I'm up so early (I "hit the wall" yesterday after shopping all afternoon...was kicking myself for overdoing it...) but I slept really well and just woke up on my own. I might have been having fevers during the night, earlier this week...would wake up all sweaty. But I'm doing good this morning...last night it was cool enough to sleep under a sheet and two blankets (I love building a little "fort" to sleep in, lol!) We have a king sized bed and use the same top sheet, but then each have our own blankies, haha! That way we can adjust layers to our own comfort levels...

I think I'm also sleeping better cause a couple nights ago one of the night lights in the bathroom went out (a Himalayan salt lamp) and it seemed better to have it a little darker (we still have a nightlight near the toilet and urinal...yes, my husband is very proud of his urinal, lol!) This light used to shine through the curtain we have over the doorway to the bedroom (we have a sliding "barn door" in the same doorway, but leave it open cause Oreo is very noisy when she opens it with her nose to come to her bed.) Anyway, since the bathroom wasn't so bright, I noticed that my alarm clock was also very bright...so I switched it out to one we had in the guest room (my old one had red numbers, the one I use now has a softer green screen.) What a difference that made! There is still plenty of light to see to get from the bedroom to the bathroom, but so much easier on the eyes...who knew?!

Sorry for the W & P this morning...and I'm trying to switch back and forth from the last porch to this one...but thought it was a good time to try to catch up. I have laundry in the guest room to fold...something quiet to do and let Den sleep in a bit. After breakfast, we'll get a load of firewood, I'll hang out some laundry (the quilts I had apples sorted on) then get on the mower. I'm enjoying making a crock pot of apple butter earlier in the day, then just letting it cook. I probably have enough applesauce made, plus it's more expensive to buy sugar free apple butter than it is sugar free applesauce...I add a little maple syrup to the apple butter, but nothing to the applesauce. And it will all keep in the freezer, although I am running out of places to tuck the freezer bags, lol!

Hope everyone has a good enough day...hang in there, dear ones.

Hi, Kids,

Just got outta the tub and slathered my Vana's Cream on my arms and legs. My poor old bod is drier than a desert. Feels like a desert here without rain. Sposda get some rain next week. Hope so or we will be in a drought. As it is, we are getting some brush fires. I have to dress and go pick up SV's treats at the vet. The order came in without them. Poor little guy lives for his treats. I'm gonna stop at Publix and pick up the stuffing and apple sauce I forgot to get yesterday. I'll pull one of the pork tenderloin roasts out of the freezer for dinner. Does that make it pulled pork?

The so-called gardeners are here mowing. They are sooo noisy. I'm a bit jumpy today but am getting better since the Herx.

Julie, I'm glad your home remedies are working. Think I've mentioned in DD's practice they incorporate natural herbs and supps into their patients' treatments and it usually means they can reduce the Rx doses. They don't teach that in nursing school but DD's mentor is a natural holistic doc. Can't understand anyone's being so lax about keeping the cattle in. The risks to the cattle and people are too great. Hope they get their act together. I am laughing about your southern view. Is your county considered free range? Your poor squirrels have to buy food for the cold weather. Down here, there is abundant food all year. They live a life of luxury. Still, they bury things. A darker bedroom helps with sleep. I have a clock that projects a very soft green digital readout on the ceiling. All I have to do is open my eyes to check the time. I love it. Hope you continue to feel better.

Sun, I hope you are okay and can stop in.

Gotta go get dressed. I'm better each day but have no git up 'n go.

Love, Mikie

Hello

Shops are due to close down for week long festival so been busy getting in stuff. It was a relatives engagement ceremony yesterday so had to prepare for that too. people trying to get things like marriages etc over on auspicious dates before theres months long gap.

Got to meet all my cousins. It was only for family members and still there were almost 40 people. managed to drag my DS too who luckily had DHs cousins little son to keep him company.

My DD of course had all the girl cousins near to her age so she had a ball. It was her girl cousin getting engaged. The groom to be comes to the girls house with his family to ask for her hand and since to keep up with thetimes, they exchanged rings.

Much excitement ensued when the ring box lit up automatically on being opened shining a light on an impressive huge diamond rock. The boy had ordered the box from abroad. The ring was locally ordered.

Such attention to detail. Some people have all the luck.

we were rushing to get ready and leave before 7am for the girls house which is a little outside the main valley. The cousin is so particular she messaged my DD and everyone asking us not to be late.

They had arranged breakfast, lunch and tea but we left after lunch. My DD stayed on with her gang and only came at night.

Rock - im another one who doesnt know which day of the week is which unless its we3kend when kids dont rush to leave for work in morning. i dont think i could enjoy going back to the days of rushing to get ready for work. coping with moods and demands of co workers, bosses.

Mikie - those sweets look delicious. I had a favourite sweet when i was young. they were called stickjaw. toffee which stuck your jaws together. also a white milky sweet with crunchy nuts in it. 5hey were introduced by Jesuit monks who started a boys school.

Hi Kids

Gordon is off running errands. They include a trip to the library. Sent ten books back. Most of them were so-so.
There was a book by Robert Wagner, the actor. He's been on NCIS several times. Plays the father of Tony Dinozzo.
The book was actually written by Scott Eyeman who has written several show biz books. No secret since Eyeman's
name is also on the cover.

Julie, I tried to send you a private message, but no workee. I also tried to delete my post from early this morning
but the board wouldn't do it. Anyhoo, many thanks. I wouldn't mess around with any cows. They are dangerous.
Kill people in this country every year. I can't look up how many without loosing my post. Might be an average of
11. When I was a kid my 2nd cousin showed me how to milk a cow. Like so many things in life, it's a lot harder
than one would expect.

Mikie., I watched more of the Steve Martin Pink Pnther last night. Inspector Clueaso visited the Pope; dressed up in his
clothes and waved to the crowd eventually falling over the railing while the crowd screamed and 3 nuns fainted.
Lily Tomlin made a cameo appearance. Don't know what else she did. I can't see the entire movie because our
library doesn't have it anymore.

Springwater, never heard of a jewel box that included a light. Does the box also predict the future? When the
light goes out you know the marriage is doomed? I couldn't go back to work, but I sure wish I were healthy enough
to do so. A couple times I've dreamed that I went back to work. Woke up happy. But most of the time I don't
remember any dreams at all. BTW Stickjaw looks like an American Indian word.

Sunflower, sorry to hear about your pains. Do you know how long they will last? Does anything help: hot
towels? Hope you are soon better.

Well, better go. Gordoni will be home shortly. Will need help putting stuff away.

Hugs, Rock

Hi, Kids,

Managed to put on some makeup so I wouldn't scare anyone and dragged myself to the vet. Instead of driving to my favorite Publix store two blocks from the condo, I left my car in front of the vet's and walked two stores down to the Publix. The parking lot right in front of that Publix is a death trap, even this slow time of year. During Season, it's impossible. I don't like that store because the produce isn't fresh like at my store. It's sad to see Publix go to hell like this. Instead of going to hell in a hand basket, it's going to hell in a shopping basket. I got my stuffing and applesauce plus some broccoli. Also got two little Halloween themed chocolates from Russell Stover to put in the little boys' jars. I'm soooo glad to be back home. My shoulders hurt and I'm exhausted. Whine, whine, whine!

Sun, I hope you feel better soon.

Rock, Julie moved your post over from the last Porch and I responded in my last post above. I wouldn't know what day it is if I didn't have a watch and phone to tell me. I guess I could ask Alexa. I always wonder about Robert Wagner and the strange death of Natalie Wood. Dr. Oz had her sister and the boat captain on his show and they both believe he has a lot to hide. I couldn't make up my mind with just that evidence but something isn't right and it doesn't sound as though it was well investigated. Ever wish you could practice criminal law? Sounds awfully stressful. I'm laughing just imagining a screaming crowd and three nuns' fainting. Loved those movies.

Spring, wow, that's a lot of people for 'family only.' It's so nice that everything is so family oriented. Also nice that there are always celebrations. Love the idea of the box that lit up. Breakfast and lunch too? Now that's a celebration and DD didn't get home til night. Not sure I could make it through breakfast let alone a whole day. It's so nice your kids have cousins to enjoy. We had some kind of taffy like that when I was a kid and it would stick your teeth together like lock jaw. Can't remember the name. I have always loved taffy and caramels. There are always some stores here open 24/7, 365 days a year. Publix closes on Christmas and Easter.

OK, I'm outta here til later.

Love, Mikie

OK, Kids, gonna rest. I really need it. Gonna read and perchance to nap.

Love, Mikie

Lunch break! Heated up some quinoa/rice and added part of the deli chicken and a can of black beans. Really hit the spot...Den also had a biscuit with some homemade apple butter. It's chilly out still, so I am wearing extra layers and a stocking cap. Looks like the cattle are staying on their own side of the fence so far today.

We got a pickup load of firewood and transferred it to the big trailer so Den can split the wood a little at a time. I've been mowing and hanging out laundry...livin' the dream, lol!

Sun, I'm so sorry the teeth cleaning caused more pain. Yep, makes us wonder if trying to take care of our bodies often backfires :(

Rock, I am a huge promoter of naps...not going to take time today, though....this is the only day without rain until next week. The grass is still growing, even though the weather has turned cold. When I get off the porch, I'll send you a message and see if you can respond to it...maybe that will work better than trying to send the first one. I'm getting back on the mower, though, so might not respond right away.

Mikie, I really appreciate when medical people will use a combination of remedies...sometimes, all it takes is a little prevention and maybe some of the good old home remedies.

Back to work...take care, everyone!

GREAT! The new propane tank (250 gallons) has been installed! Lots of fun and high spirits talking to the two workers, one of each gender. The man asked what kind of apples were on the tree that he could see. The rest of the Golden Delicious tree. He told me he ate up to six apples a day, and had five kids. I took him around to the back of the house where half the tree had fallen and let him gather a load of them. There are still hundreds of apples on the fallen section......

Julie, still working with apples, eh? Good on you! In regards to medical mj, I got a state license many yrs. ago from my doc. As for anxiety, I don't want to smoke much mj, so for anxiety am looking for a cbd product. I'll save the joint for the evening for extra relaxation; no hangover effect the next day....
I hope your cow problem is soon over with. Meanwhile, you have walnuts! I LOVE walnuts and have them every day on my breakfast cereal. You are blessed; hope you have good nutcrackers for kids...lol! And good news from the doc! Happy for you.

Julie, "Helping Grandma with the controller " is hilarious! Thanks for the laughs. I should do it to each of our 4 (yes 4!) controllers. Then THEY wouldn't control me so much!

Sun, so sorry for your neck and back pains. Do you do any physical therapy that helps?

Rock, et al, Ienjoyed all of your posts, but am too tired to post anymore right now. Must take the furbies out for their playtime -- throwing and fetching the ball/stick is Romeo's fave, while Lenny looks on in a bored fashion. HE prefers to wrassle with Romeo. The krazykatz like to chase each other all over the yard, climb onto the roof, and then plonk down and snooze.

Love and Peace to All in these parlous times,
Barry.

Good Saturday Morning, Kids,

Am watching SV today because yesterday, he didn't pee or poop all day. Finally, last evening, he peed a respectable amount and he drank a little water. He wouldn't drink anything after that. After he peed, he danced all over the place. He had gone to his box several times but decided not to get in. These things make me very nervous considering what he went through last Dec. This morning, he had a big drink of water out of his goblet so I am tentatively breathing a sigh of relief. I spent the night praying. I always say my prayers but prayed a little extra for SV.

I had ordered a poncho style sheer top and it came yesterday. I will have to wear a black tank top under it. It is black with a big beautiful orange and yellow butterfly on the front and back at the bottom. I ordered it from HSN and figured I might be sending it back. It is beautiful and I can't wait to wear it. It's not so dressy that I won't wear it much but it's a step above casual. It was on sale and I still had a few bucks from a gift card DD got for me; it was enough to cover S&H.

Grace's husband, Dennis, texted me night last to ask if I would check their condo today. They got an email that the power was off in our bldg. last evening but that the utility co. would have it fixed by night. Told him I would. I just read the same email in my inbox. My power wasn't off last evening so I can only conclude it was a mistake. Still, I'm going to check it out.

Julie, I'm laughing at "Livin' the dream." Several years ago, I was shopping at Costco. The guy loading things into my cart looked a bit down and out. I asked him how he was and he said, "Just livin' the American Dream." We laughed so hard. He was adorable. I need to head back to Costco to see whether they have any house brand decaf K-cups. Last time all they had was full caffeine. Even on weekends, it isn't that crowded and they usually have plenty of cashiers. I only pay about 34 cents per cup. Big Lots has some that is about the same and I'll check on that if Costco doesn't have it. Glad Bossy and her crew are staying clear of you.

Barry, how nice of you to give the apples to the installer. I wish SV could still be outside chasing Tweety all over the place. They had a ball when they lived at Jeff's bldg. I try to play with him but he grew up only playing with his sister. They had toys but ignored them because they had all of nature to play in, including greeting dogs on walks, playing with otters in the pond and chasing the squirrels who taunted them. The only toy he enjoys is his little track ball game. He likes to wrassle so I engage in a bit of that at bedtime. Then, he settles down to watch TV with me in bed. Hope you had a good time outside with the fur kids.

I hope everydobby has a great start to the weekend.

Love, Mikie

Update: I checked Grace's condo and all is well. On the way, I ran into all kinds of neighbors. One always has a Christmas party and her mom, a good friend of mine, will be coming down in Dec. This neighbor will be having a brunch for her. My new top will be perfect.

News just showed dead fish washing up on our beaches. It's only about 8 miles from here to the beach where red tide seems to have killed a large turtle. No wonder my allergies are driving me nuts.

Hi ya Mikie, Spring, Rock, Barry, Granni, Sun, Julie, Duck and all Porchies.
Wind is howling outside, Fence is rattling and there's raucous laughter echoing down the street from the pub.Lot's of drunken laughter and the thumping base from some kind of unrecognizable music, being carried on the wind I guess.Sounds almost creepy.
yeah, if I was a kid I would most definitely be creaped out by all those sounds wafting in and out of ear shot like that.
But we are on the verge of the silly season with the weather warming up. (Not that today is anything to go by). We've had a few sun shiney days which is enough to lift the moods of the town folk and give many Hope.Hope for better weather and the lovely smell of freshly cut grass and jasmine and...

Julie, how do you go with all the lawn mowing when you suffer all those allergies? Maybe I'm having a jelly- brain moment and you've probably mentioned it before now, but I know my youngest suffers terribly from grasses and pollens and well, nature altogether, it would seem...?
The last time Dh used a pressure cooker, the contents sprayed all over the kitchen walls and ceiling. Not a fan.Besides, it always sounds like a rocket is about to take off.I guess that time it did!
Admittedly we've had the best, most succulent beef cheeks in it though.mmm yum.
Speaking of which.
What's the deal with your Ahmish neighbours using electric fences? I'm guessing electricity is ok then? But washing machines and dryers aren't? I'm a little confused.
The whole cows escaping the electric fence has thrown a big spanner in the works as far as my 'Ahmish theology' goes. (Spelling looks off, but spell check doesn't feel like stepping up).
Oh and thanks for moving my post. No, I didn't see that it was closed.

Sun, sorry you're in pain.I've been dealing with much of the same. It's soooo frustrating coz I'd hoped to achieve so much more while Dh wasn't around.
I thought it interesting when you mentioned something about detoxing from plastic in your body.

I still go to counselling. It helps to get a different perspective, even if most of what she says just verifies what I hv known for a long time- most of his issues stem from his mother.
The first few times I just needed to unload and verify that I wasn't crazy.
I find I'm not so hard on myself anymore.I think I thought I was failing some how.(I mean on top of this crappy body and my limitations).
I guess because I don't/can't work All my self worth is/was somehow attached to being best Wife & Mum.
Also, the whole whirlwind of head games that goes on whenever his mother is around or just in touch...Doesn't effect me as much.
I can see it much clearly now that I hv shared circumstances with the councellor.
I go every few wks and she's affordable.

I can see it's benefit by how I feel and react to the stuff he (Dh) tells me while he's away on his trip.
It's funny.
It's almost as if I gave them (Dh & mil) their power.
Now that I couldn't care less about them, or their interactions and what is or isnt 'implied' and am able to say 'No' , it's Better.
Maybe his mother didn't cut the chord, but I cut mine- away from them.
I like me better now too.

Things are pretty good between Dh and I atm, but I shudder to think about the direction I was heading if you guys/gals didn't set off some alarms...thanks

In regards to Dd's apprenticeship, it's sad to say, but there's way too many shadey goings on...
I'm going to find out where she stands with the reps who handle all the apprentices in the state...
She wants to quit, but doesn't like the idea of having to give them notice and still continue working for them.she'd rather not see them 'ever again' she said...we shall see.
Mikie, out 'whoop whoop' is the same as 'by the black stump' or in the middle of no where....maybe like your boondocks/boonies?

As usual , I can't really tell how long my post is, but hv a feeling it's a doozey.
Sorry bout that.
It's late.Actually early now, so gonna try to sleep.
Take care & Catch yas later

Good Saturday morning...sure feels like fall has arrived. Only 54 degrees with an expected high of 64. Must have been cooler at the southern kids' house, too...sent us pics of a bonfire and said they were sleeping in their tent in the yard last night.

Mikie, darn that Red Tide! My nemesis is the Ragweed...should have rinsed my sinuses out last night, but was just too tired to even remember to do it :( Glad nothing was wrong in Grace's condo. Your new top sounds perfect for a Christmas brunch. I keep putting off buying new clothes cause I still think I can lose a bit of weight yet....recently shed almost 10 pounds, but started stress/fatigue eating again and those pounds came right back "home", lol! I'll be glad to get through my body's season of "being my own furnace" so I can wear cute layers, etc. Hope SV keeps drinking and peeing and doesn't have any problems.

Barry, glad the new tank will work out. We have a 500 gallon tank...it gets filled before winter and again in January/February (if we have a severe winter.) Thank goodness we also burn wood or we'd go through a lot more fuel. I'm sure the tank man really appreciated your gift of apples...that was very kind of you.

I see Star just posted, but I'm on the Chromebook and this keyboard is as squirrely as ever. Gonna post, then switch over to the decktop...be back in a jiff.

Okay...Den got up before I did, so he was already on the "big computer"...I fixed his breakfast, then climbed in the recliner with the little one. Now, he's in the shop so I switched...we play "musical computers" that way all the time, lol!

Star...I'm so glad you're seeing a counselor and it has helped so much. Brought back so many memories, especially because the counselor I saw about my MIL (40 years ago, I think) told me I was giving her too much "control." I understood what he was saying, but I was pretty young at the time (early 20's) and she owned our home (we moved back here because they had bought Den's grandpa's family farm and wanted us to carry on the legacy...which was fine cause Den had just gotten out of the Army, but we were still living in Virginia and getting a bit homesick.)

Fast forward several years...MIL still calling the shots because Den's dad mostly just gave up and let her have her way...and Den is very laid back, didn't want to cause any trouble, and somewhat intimidated by his mother. Things went okay-ish as long as I just went along with everything and didn't complain, etc., etc...but then I started to get some "backbone" and began to complain. That did not go well, lol! So, we were sort of estranged from Den's parents for a few years (MIL did back off and not come over here every day, at all hours...I think Den finally got some backbone, too...and finally decided to choose his wife and daughters over his mama...even if it meant we might get kicked off the farm (which could have quite possibly happened if she had lived much longer...but when she died, Den's dad announced that we were all "under new management".) I think Grandpa realized all along that I wasn't the terrible person his wife had been saying...and we ended up having a wonderful father/daughter relationship, especially after he came to live with us.

Anyway, I guess my point is that it's best to nip these things in the bud at the very beginning of problems...but that didn't happen, in our case...but it all ended up working out, eventually. I can sense that your husband loves you very much, but might feel conflicted because of his mom...I hope you can hang in there and just trust that God knows the whole situation and loves you and your family. Bullies (they come in many shapes and sizes, true?) often back down when they know they aren't going to get a reaction.

So, about my lawn mowing, despite the doggone allergies. I am just stubborn enough that I don't want anyone else to do it...yet, lol! Den takes over some of the time, but he has allergies, too...plus, he was working a lot of the time when the yard needed mowed. I think I've outgrown some of the problems...I used to have to go to the doctor and get shots or oral prednisone, ABX, whatever would work. And I went over a year trying the monthly "allergy shots"...maybe they helped by building up in my body? Den and I were just talking about this the other night...he used to get bedridden in the spring and fall, due to whatever was in the air.

But, now I just deal with sinus headaches, sometimes mild sore throat, puffy eyes, etc...the symptoms aren't nearly as bad, or else I'm just getting used to them. But I also am more pro-active about the prevention part...lots of sinus rinses with saline water and colloidal silver. (My optometrist's assistant was complaining that her son is having a lot of sinus problems, but didn't think he would "rinse out his nose", lol!) Also, our diet is better than it used to be...hardly any sugar, a lot of organic foods, etc...I have to think that must help, at least a little.

Oh, the Amish, lolol! People around here either love them or hate them...but they are just like any other people. Some are considerate, some will take advantage whenever they get a chance. Some follow the "rules" of the church to a "T", some hide TV's in a closet and watch it (with a generator) when nobody else is around. The ones I am good friends with...we have earned each other's respect and friendship...let's just say I don't give everyone my phone number, lol!

Electric fences can either be ran by actual electricity, or batteries, or can be solar (probably with a battery backup.) These fences only give a small jolt to the animal (just to teach them "not to go past this spot".) But if something interferes with the fence (weeds growing up and touching them, anything like that) they don't have the spark...and all it takes is one cow to "test" it, realize "Hey, there's nothing stopping me!" and go on through. Then all the other cows catch on...

Most people go out, check the fence and take care of the problem...our neighbors have just been turning the fence off (so it doesn't "waste" their battery.) They do the same with the battery-operated lights on their buggies...turn them off till they notice a vehicle coming up behind them...I'm sure that's illegal, but again, gotta save that battery. But...sometimes they don't notice the vehicle and the buggy gets hit, and people have gotten killed.

As I said, they are "human", just like anyone else. Even with the religious training, many think nothing of, for instance, taking their infants or young children in a vehicle without a carseat or seatbelt. Illegal...but handier because they can fit more people in a vehicle that they are paying the driver to take them somewhere. Many drivers go along with this, but I won't transport anyone who won't buckle up their kids. Thus, choosing who I associate with very carefully...not because I'm prejudiced or being mean...but I don't need the headaches.

Oh, I've rambled on and on...I need to be cooking apples, lol! But so glad to hear from you and wanted to answer your questions. I'd better get busy...I do have one of those sinus headaches that extends to my eyes. Please don't feel bad that you can't work outside the home...I haven't been able to do that for years (I used to take naps in a closet when I worked for a place that helped handicapped adults...the employers were very understanding and I would spend my lunch hours sleeping, lol...finally gave up working, altogether.) You, and I, and anyone with these stupid diseases...we just do the best we can. I seem to be "wearing out" my CFS at times...some days, I win...some days, it wins. Don't ever give up...your hubby and kids need you...even if they are disrespectful or act like they don't care...just the nature of the beast, sometimes.

Hi, Kids,

Just sneezed a bunch even though I've taken my allergy pill. Had to run to the loo so I didn't pee myself. Scared SV and he left the room. I have to unload the DW and clean up the kitchen a wee bit. Gonna get the pork roast in the oven. I'm going to roast it in a baking bag so it will get well done and all crusty on the outside. Woke at 5:00 this morning so will be hungry early. SV took another big drink of water so we're half-way there.

Star, your post made my day. OMG! You've gotten so much out of counseling. Yes, PA behavior can make us feel less than what we should about our worth. How wonderful that you've taken back your power. Glad you can see yourself like we do--a great person worthy of self-respect. So glad you found a counselor who is affordable and a good fit. I hope DD can find something else. I don't blame her for not wanting to be around a shady operation. Thanks for the meaning. Yes, here we say out in the boonies. We have another saying but I can't post it here. :)

Julie, allergies of any kind make us sooo tired and are so hard on our bodies. Red tide also affects respiration and it takes almost nothing to make me feel out of breath. I finally got rid of my fat clothes. A couple of years ago, I lost 30 pounds and bought some skinny clothes. Well, I've gained back 10 or those pounds so can't fit into them. I have regular clothes which I'm wearing now. I'd like to lose those pounds and then some but not sure that's gonna happen. At my age, it isn't just the weight but the fact that old age redistributes everything and it all sags. GAAAAK!!! It ain't pretty. My Chrombook is sooo squirelly, some days worse than others.

Just feaster on the pork loin and it was delicious. Sooo tender and juicy. Stuffing was great as was the apple sauce. Perfect combination. I cleaned out SV's little water fountain and it's nice and clean. Hope he uses it.

Sending good wishes and prayers for all our Porchies.

Love, Mikie

Star:. So good to read that you've changing your attitude, etc. with your DH thanks to the counselor you've found. I didn't have a MIL in the picture, she had died about 10 years earlier, but the stubbornness was already bred in him and he had a lot of problems BECAUSE of her. I'm praying for a good relationship with all of your family. Be strong.

Julie: I think you've worked hard to turn you marriage into a good one.

I hurt when I try to sit, actually feel better with the sciatic and spine pain when I stand or walk around. So I'm forcing myself to walk more. Took 2 walks yesterday and I just returned from a SLOW but steady 2 plus miles. That's a big milestone for me to achieve. Have to say these new Nike shoes are helping me. My BP has been high....like 190/85. Trying to cut out all salty stuff like cheezits! This is so weird because a few weeks ago I was having to take a little salt for bad low BP. A lot of STRESS for me though.

Earlier in the week my DS emailed me, said he was woke up at 6 a.m. From a loudspeaker, bright lights in his yard and the SWAT team everywhere, holding automatic rifles. I guess they had come into my DS yard to make sure no one escaped. They had raided the house next door and got several guys, took them away in handcuffs. Later my DS sent me a news link that the state of Oregon had broken up a large drug ring and 41 were arrested at various places around Portland. Said they had been watching different places for weeks, planning this raid. I get stressed easily over so many things, and this just felt the topper.

Hi gang! Taking a break after getting a pot of apples on the stove. Was going to at least try to make it to church tomorrow, even though we won't be going to Keira's game (not up to that two hour drive, at all) but decided it would be silly to even expose myself to any more germs than necessary. One good thing about our church...they understand about things like that and nobody gets "shamed" or scolded for not actually being in church. But if we truly needed something (like when I called the pastor in the middle of the night when my dad was dying...he and his wife were right there) they would do whatever they could to help.

Mikie, yep...so many of our body parts start to go "south", lol! Glad your meal was yummy....my mom used to make a really good pork roast, too. We mostly eat beef and chicken now, but can't be without ham, bacon, etc...

Sun, oh my word! Scary for your son, then for you when you heard about it. I'm glad you are able to get out for walks and that the new shoes are working out. Sorry your BP was high...the stress doesn't help that, for sure.

Thanks for the kind words regarding our marriage...Den is a very patient man, always has been...which is good and "not good" to not want to rock the boat and stand up to his mom. But, I'm pretty sure he said a few things to her that caused her to back off...and it must have been hard for him to do that. I was very immature in many ways, but somehow we managed to weather the storms and have come out the other end in good shape. I'm glad, since we've been together since I was 14 years old, lol! I can't imagine anyone else in my life.

As soon as the apples are soft, I'm going to mash them with my little stick blender then take a nap while the applesauce cools. Have talked to both girls today and all is well in their hoods. Den is happily tinkering, Oreo has her nest made on the couch. Lazy day and hoping not to get worse with this crud...chest feels more tight than it did this morning, but that's kind of the cycle. Hope everyone is doing okay.

rock lost his post while copying it after it was written. and he post it. he doesn't remember what key strokes he used to copy. i tried going to a blank page and hit control/p - nothing. don't know why it was necessary to copy if the message was posted. he's upset about the whole thing.

i will update you and our day.

we had a 10:00 AM appointment with the DMV in thousand oaks, about 40 miles west of our residence, to get rock a senior ID card. arrived before 9:00, there were no lines, we were shown to the sign-in area, filled in an on-line application. even though we were early the clerk put our info into the system. there appears to be a separate window just for senior ID application. waited 15 minutes and was called up. amazing!!! the clerk was friendly and helpful. she filled out forms, took a thump print and he was told to get a photo taken. there was no one in that line either and was out in 5 minutes.

even though we brought the necessary documents required it was not needed. i guess you need it for a driver license.

left before 10:00 and was home by 10:40......ALL IN ALL A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE.

Gordon/Rock: Wow....am I impressed with the calif. DMV! All I can say is lucky you since I think saturdays are really busy. Sorry that Rock hit the wrong button. I do that too often and I know how frustrating it is when things don't work right. Make him some of your special lemon bars or whatever lemon dessert he's been hankering for and that will sooth his ruffled feathers.

And if it makes you feel any better, I apparently screwed something up BIG TIME with my Etsy prices, etc. Recently we've been kinda "coerced" into giving free shipping on things over $35 but apparently I hit something wrong and everything was FREE shipping. The idea Etsy had was if someone wanted free shipping they would buy more items. Had to email Etsy twice and found out what I needed to do to change things in the computer so I've spent hours changing things on my listings. At several points I wanted to cry with being overwhelmed with it all.
