Welcome to the new porch....i imagine Jugheads Hot Dog looks like that big dopey looking mutt on the right. How wonderful for that soldier to come back from the battlelines to this.
Hey all!

So nice to see Duckie. :D thanks for dropping in. So sorry for the loss of your young friend and all 5he troubles with DD and work. Keep your chin up. Grieve, holler, sulk but not for too long at a time. Get the aggro out. and 5hen loin up your girdles and carry on.

Very nice youre going on your retreat. Make sure you leave all the pain the the backside stuff at home andjust concentrate on having a good time.

Granni - ah. the crockpot comes out now that 5he weather is turned a tad chilly. One of the best things about winter. Slurping hot stew/soup. I read about a 5 bean salad and 5hought about you.

Isnt it such a blessing that your DD made a turnaround? Its so sweet of you to share your story and comfort Duckie. I can feel the turmoil you have endured on your DDs account as you write. All the frustration, anxiety a mother goes through. As Mikie says counting our blessings is all we can do in turbulent times and wait it out.

Easy to say, not so easy to practise!

Sun - what an interesting book must be the Violin one. All those diverse stories of different people through the centuries. i was digging through my store of books to find something fictional to read with my tea and looks like i dont have any new ones. i will have to look in 5he bookstores. But 5hey mostly sell bestsellers and i just want a nice cozy slice of life book set not later than 1940s.

But not earlier 5han 17th century. Before 5hat all i can 5hink of is druids, Merlin, and the plague. And the clink of iron blades on armour as armies battle. big hairy men getting high on running blades 5hrough the flesh of other fellowmen. And carrying off the maidens they happen to fancy. Just like 5hat. Shudder. Was the world really like 5hat?

Mikie - my tees would have no outfit is complete with dog hair. :D Tons of dog hair. We keeps rolls of cellotape for 5hat reason. My DH goes to his golf with dog hair on his clothes. Sometimes his meetings. Earlier his friends used to comment, now they leave him be.

I hope your DD is better from her hamstring injury. If i were non vegetarian i would eat lots of ham. Mmmm...bacon and ham used to be my favourite meats. But sparsely eaten because so expensive here. The Chinese make a pigs sausage which is so delicious, 5he fat just oooooozes out whenyou bite into the meat, but of course you needto diet for a week after one helping.

i think Gordon would know about the sausage. It a huge thing in Calcutta. Or was.

A chilly good evening, complete with a nearly full moon. An expected high of 45 tomorrow, but Monday night down to 13...Lindsey thinks they have chosen to visit during "arctic" weather, but at least it will be in the 40's/low 50's while they're here. The kids are all packed...I imagine they will get an early start Tuesday morning and be here in plenty of time for supper.

Granni, I hope the docs can get your meds under control and figure out how to help you feel better.

Sun, how did it go this time? Wondering about you.

Mikie, how fun to anticipate possibly face timing tomorrow with DD and family...I know she will love her gift.

Barry, did you get your persimmons picked? Den brought a potted plant to the house and left a note on it that said, "Help me!" It was a lilac bush that our Amish neighbor (Lorene's husband) gave us a few years ago. They had gotten several things from a mail order place and he brought this bush which I promptly put in a pot...then kept forgetting about. I knew I wanted a lilac bush by the corner of the new house, but kept waiting to see where it would "fit." It has survived in that pot all these years, even the harsh Midwest winters, lol! I've watered it, but never actually moved it....Den said when he picked it up, it's roots had grown through the holes in the bottom of the pot and were in the ground underneath it.

Well, we finally got the house/patio, etc. finished enough that I could tell where the bush should go...I gathered up all the supplies and chose a location and Den planted it for me. Now we'll see what color the blooms are...I am hoping for the purple ones. Such terrible plant parents we are...but hopefully we've redeemed ourselves.

Duckie, hope your retreat is just what you need to give you some rest, peace and get "recharged."

Rock, how's everyone in your hood? And Star...I've been thinking of you and hoping you are getting along.

I'm not sure I got much accomplished today, but I did get a couple of casseroles made and put in the freezer. And managed an hour or so nap. And carried a bunch of boxes upstairs that I had brought over from my parents' mobile home...they had sat in my living room for a couple weeks, but I found room in the storage area upstairs...I'll go through them after our company leaves.

Tomorrow I plan to do more cooking and food prep, fill the pinata, get the Saran Wrap game ready, work on the house. Monday we'll go out to eat somewhere for Veteran's Day. Then Tuesday starts the happy chaos, lol!

I went to bed earlier, but couldn't sleep...got up to eat some yogurt with granola and now I'll give it another try. Take care, everyone!

Thanks for opening up, Spring. Interesting pix. First time I've ever seen a bear from Nepal.
Yes, ham is popular here. Didn't Don Rickles used to insult people by calling them ham sandwiches?
Yesterday I heard Harvey Corman's short friend Tim Conway tell a story about a friend of his who jumped off a boat and swam to shore. Alas, a shark got her. She would have made it if she hadn't been wearing her good luck ham. It slowed her down.

Julie, 45 degrees! Good Grief! That's colder than some refrigerators. I don't know what the
weather is around here. I think it's it's in the 70s and 80s. Whatever it is it's warmer than MN

AND iOWA.

Good luck with your lilac bush. We had one near our woodshed. They were about the same
size. Lilacs need lots of acid I think. I remember a gardening show with a guy throwing huge
amts of some white powder on them.

Gordon is fine. Got a Track phone yesterday. Are all those phones the same: cell, mobile, etc.?
Anyhoo they was something missing so couldn't easily transfer the old phone number to the new phone.

Gordon got the book "Goodbye, Mr Chips" at the library. I re-read it yesterday. Always makes me
cry. The British actor who played Chips (Robert Donat) won the Oscar that year. So Clark Gable didn't win for GWTW. But he had already won several years earlier for "It Happened One Night."

My memory keeps fading. I wouldn't mind so much is something else was getting better, but
apparently not gonna happen.

Mikie, Hope you and SV are hunky dory, and all your ailments fading away. I just watched an
episode of CSI which, of course, is set in Miami. Seems to be a new show in Miami as well.
The title is Miami Porn. It is possible, of course, that this is some sort of misprint, and the show
is actually about a gal named Mimi who played the French Horn.

Hugs Granni, Duckie, Star, Barry Sun, and BG Good to hear from you Duckie.

Good Sunday Morning, Kids,

Up early at 4:00 but still got almost eight hours of sleep. I'm watching home renovation shows. Based on the choice of tile and cabinets, plus what they paid for one house in the Boston area, I'd say these are really old shows. Last time I scanned for antenna broadcasts, I picked up a bunch of channels including about five that broadcast radio. I can listen to them or ask Alexa to play whatever I want to listen to. Right now, Burns and Allen is one. Loooove the old comedy shows. One new channel is Babl which is a lifestyle format with decorating and cooking shows. Since so many people have cut the cable and are using antennas, new channels are cropping up all the time. Broadcasters are improving their broadcasting capability because they know this is the way so many consumers are going. Comcast, and all the other cable companies, are losing so much business that they keep having to charge more to their cable customers which causes even more of them to leave. There are sooo many choices for those who are sick of paying $200 a month for cable and internet. I think cable's days are limited. Everything is moving toward streaming.

I hope DD will be able to make the call this morning. The problem is that my ex's wife will likely be there and no one wants me to have to look at her. He would probably like her to stay home. He resents her for so much. Oh well, not my problem. Just wish we were free to FaceTime without the concerns. Maybe DD will just wait til she gets home. I'd really like to see her excitement when he gives her the watch. I just heard the paper hit the balcony so I need to go out and get it. There, I got it. I had sprayed ant poison around the front door before I gave SV his wet food. He ate it all and there were no ants in the dish. Woo Hoo! It's only 63 degrees out this morning and that may account for the lack of ants too.

I just saw and ad on TV for a new GE water filter for the home. You can control it with a smart phone. It lets you know when there is a leak and you can shut off the water remotely. I believe all our appliances, and our cars, will soon be controlled with our phones. Who would have thunk that one day we would have a little flat phone that could do so many things.

Tomorrow, Mercury transits the sun. It will be visible on the East Coast. I have the special glasses so may try to look though my binoculars. Without a telescope, it's just a small dot. Tues. is the full moon. I'm already starting to feel just a tad more energetic.

Spring, thanks for starting a new Porch. Love the pics of the GI with his pup that grew into a big floppy dog. Sooo cute! I loves me my ham, bacon and sausage too. Publix has these little ham slices, about five inches in diameter. They are having a BOGO on them and I'll pick up two. They are perfect because I can't eat too much at one time and they keep great in the fridge. Yes, you would be dealing with dog hair. My dogs didn't shed which was a blessing. SV sheds like crazy all the time. In the fall, he has a ruff that grows around his neck. It is only long in the front but it's realllly long. If it were a beard, he could tour with ZZ Top.

Granni, hope you enjoyed your crackpot stew. That's what we always called the slow cooker. I got rid of mine because the Instant Pot is also a slow cooker that is much better than the one I had. I was able to get rid of that, a soup pot and a Dutch oven. With such limited space in my kitchen, it's nice to have one appliance that takes the place of all those pots. Have you ever tried your 'monstrosity pot?' We are now getting the cool air from the same front that cooled things down for you a couple of days ago. I think our Season has finally started.

Rock, I used to have a Trac phone. It was really inexpensive. I only paid for the minutes I used. If all Gordon does is use it for a phone, it should work out great. My wonderful kids put me on their plan so I don't have to worry. DSIL doesn't have unlimited data but has enough that it should be ample for all of us. Only problem is when someone decides to use the phone to stream a movie or TV show. His uncle, who is also on his plan, sometimes forgets and goes nuts with the streaming. Doh! Some people are still using the old flip phones. They were very popular and a lot of people like them. The newer smart phones have all kinds of features and can do so many things. Those are basically all the phones in use today. Remember the saying, "A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich?" Like with LA and NYC, a lot of movies and TV shows are filmed in Miami. It's a really neat place with South Beach and Little Havana. It moves to a Latin beat. I love it over there. If that was a porn show, it's likely Mimi the ho. :D

I'm gonna go read the honest-to-goodness newspaper. Hope all y'all have a wonderful Sunday filled with joy.

Love, Mikie

Good afternoon y'all,

Went to church it was pretty chilly but has warned up to the 60's I think.

MIKIE
- Get ready as we are supposed to have a real VERY COLD wave coming down from the Arctic somewhere on Tuesday sometime I think. Apparently what we have had hasn't been very cold but it surely bothers me. Unfortunately it is also time to wash my mop again tonight . I hate to do it and in the cold or cooler weather it is worse. Hope you and SV and nice a cozy staying warm and comfy before the next blast comes.

SPRING WATER - Thanks for starting us up again SPRING. Love that picture it is so cute and funny !!! That pup sure did grow while he was gone, The stew was yummy and there is a little yet so I am going to add some other stuff to it tonight for supper along with corn bread which should be good on a chilly day. We stopped after church and picked up some packages of corn bread mix. So I need to go in a bit and throw it together along with the leftover stew (not together), Will probably add some canned green beans and maybe some more mushrooms. Using the canned beef broth , and a little tomato paste made it pretty dark anyway but I did mix up a bit of water and cornstarch to thicken it. The recipe did not call for it to be thickened ( a paleo recipe) but we like it that way , a little thicker/ Hope DH is satisfied with not being able to have 3 big bowls like last night :)!! Thanks also for your sweet words about my DD and her situation. It takes a lot out of the whole family.

JULIE -Have a nice visit with your Tennessee family. You surely are busy. You get me tired just listening to your day and things you do. Hope you take care of your finger so it doesn't get worse for you. Don't know how you do it, even if you are young enough to be my DD:)!!

DSIL who lives close by's sister became very ill this weekend ( not a good time to go to the hospital with an undisclosed ailments but just awful stomach pain. She seems to be a bit better but not doing scans or anything. Not even sure who they spoke to . Do not become ill on a weekend esp if a scan is need !! I think he is coming home , almost 4 or more hrs away from home.

Big hugz also to ROCK, BARRY, SUN, DUCKIE and all our MIA'S. Gotta run and start doing a few things around here and make my corn bread.

Thinking about everydobby !

Love,
Granni

Hi, Kids,

Well, my ex evidently didn't go to the celebration today. Said he has been to the ER and doc. He is dealing with fall down exhaustion. His BP also goes out of bounds. I fear that if anything happens to him, my DD will never get the watch. Of course, I also don't want anything to happen to him and told him I'd pray for him.

BTW, for any The Durrells On Corfu fans, there is a special tonight on PBS to splain what happened to the family. The finale kinda left us hanging. I finished one bath and did a couple of loads of laundry today. I also cleaned out SV's little drinking fountain. It's a pain to take apart to clean. I'm certainly not pushing myself. Did a few other little things and that's it. Mgmt. is having our carports pressure washed tomorrow so I asked Alexa to remind me to move my car early in the morning. I can't believe how many things she helps me with. I'm getting spoiled but it really helps me to remember things. I have a lot of trouble with remembering.

Granni, it got to 81 this afternoon but only started out in the 60's. Will get colder tonight and tomorrow. For the rest of the week, it will only get into the low 80's. That's about where we should be this time of year. It's gorgeous out, a Technicolor day. Just sent up a little prayer for DSIL's sister. Our ER's are horrible, even when people go there in ambulances. Hope I never need to go there. I shampooed my hair in the shower yesterday and was glad for the caulk job even if it wasn't my finest work. Hope it doesn't get too cold for you.

Just had a cup of mostly decaf with just a bit of regular. Tastes sooo good. I'm looking forward to a nice evening of TV and SV. Hope all y'all have a lovely evening and windup to the weekend.

Love, Mikie

Spring:. Wowie....that's one BIG dog. It looks like a labradoodle. One of my neighbors next door had two of them and they loved to take a swim in their pool in the middle of the night.

Julie: Good luck on the lilac. If's it's done this well on it's own it's now going to thrive. My mom loved them, being from Ohio. I have one planted in front, it's about 20 years old, which remind me I need to get busy and start fertilizing so it will have a lot of flowers in the spring. I had always taken it for granted until 2 years ago it had hardly any flowers. Then I realized I hadn't been dumping my epson salt water on it after soaking my feet.

Mikie: I hope your X is doing better. I think you mentioned he was very overweight. Maybe he was stressing over the watch too much?

I've been doing fall cleaning forever today it seems. Started with the long, narrow mini blind in one bathroom. I had tried putting narrow insullation on the louvered window last year but my gardener blows dirt thru the cracks, so I bought a roll of heavy clear tape for sealing up cracks. Decided I needed to put it over the bottom 5 louvers inside, which meant removing the screen and cleaning all the dirt that had seeped in....eeegads....didn't know what a mess it was. So then I moved on to another louvered window in my computer room.....even more dirt accumulated there and along the baseboards. *&^%$#@. I've been working over 5 hrs. So I KNOW I'm going to be hurting tonight. I just can't keep up with this house anymore. This house needs a really good cleaning.....hate to say it but my "cleaning lady" doesn't do a very good job, so will probably have to search for someone who can do some extras. She is such a nice person and I'm a terrible boss.

I'm making a pile of things going to the thrift store also.

Happy-Veterans-Day-1.jpg

Happy Veterans Day, Kids,

I think the Brits just celebrated their veterans. I love the big red poppies they wear. When I was a small child, the veterans sold poppies. I remember wearing mine. My uncles served in WWII. My oldest uncle served in WWI. DSIL posted a B&W pic of himself in his dress Marine uniform. So handsome!

Up early but got quite a bit of sleep. I watched The Durrells On Corfu special last night. Their real lives were even more quirky than they were portrayed on the series. I'm going to miss watching them. Poldark has gotten strange like many series get after a few years. Not as into it as I once was. I think this is the last year. I'll probably watch just to see how they end up. I've been feeling out of it and am having problems taking care of things. I can do some work around here but am having trouble staying on top of things like bills. I'm sooo care about that. Each time I've been poisoned by the stearic acid, it takes longer for me to get a grip!

When I got up to move my car, the full moon was setting behind the courtyard across the street. It is sooo beautiful. The humidity is down and it's crispy out, It's only 65 out right now. I really need to get outside today because it will be absolutely gorgeous. All the cars are out from under the carport so they can use a cleaning solution to get it even cleaner. The guy across the street who parks under our carport moved his car. He was such a jerk last time and let me know he would move it when he felt like it. He was the one talking loudly on his cell phone in the middle of the street screaming how effing dumb Tracy was when her car jumped the concrete bumper and ended up in our yard. I put a notice on his door and mentioned that he might want to be sure to move his car because they will be using cleaning solution. Guess that did the trick. I have picked up on his misogyny and I think he wanted to let me know last time that no woman was going to tell him he needed to move his car. I was just wanting to be a thoughtful neighbor and let him know there was a cleaning scheduled for the carport. Because he lives across the street, he might have missed the posted notices. So glad I don't have to go tell him to move it this time. Don't know what's wrong with him but I don't want anything to do with him.

I took SV's bag of poop and pee clumps down to the dumpster. I'm lucky because it doesn't smell. Nancy's old cat that was on the Rx diet had pee clumps that smelled to high heaven like rotting asparagas. I picked up my mail--all junk mail. I got my tax bill a while back. I'll put it on my Costco credit card and won't have to pay it for another month and I'll get cash rewards to offset the fee the county charges for using credit cards. My taxes are so low because of homesteading and extra exemptions and I get a discount if they are paid in Nov. instead of Jan. I'm so sick of getting ads for Medicare insurance. The local hospital and physicians have started their own Advantage Plan. It's $130 a month. My plan with UHC costs nothing in monthly premiums. The new plan offers less than mine. I'm sick of all the Medicare ads on TV too. Geez, Joe Namath's whiny voice drives me nuts. I'm sooo grumpy. My new license plate/backup camera should arrive today. Maybe that will cheer me up if it installs and works like it should. At least, Costco stands behind their products.

Alexa just reminded me to move my car. I already have but can't count on my memory for anything right now. The guest parking spots are filling up fast. I always thank Alexa just to see how she will answer. Her responses are always apropos of the weather, day, etc. TV had an expose on the news about just how much info data banks have that is associated with our phone numbers. They mine our data and share it. That has to be how LabCorps knew so much about every address I've ever had and all my cars too. It's scary and spooky.

Sun, evidently my ex did go to the breakfast and went home to bed. I'll call DD. He didn't give her the watch. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and think he forgot because he's sick. It's a hallmark trait of PA's to procrastinate in order to cause angst to others. The more he feels lousy and hates his life, the more he tries to make others feel sorry for him. He seemed really excited to give DD the watch. Sooo glad that I seldom have to deal with his craziness. Our gardeners blow dirt into the front doors here too. Ilona downstairs yelled at them. Another reason I like living upstairs. I don't mind doing deep cleaning; it's the day to day that gets to me. At least, I don't have to worry about the outside of the bldg. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to keep up with a big house like yours. It's all I can do to keep up with this condo. My pile for the church thrift store is almost ready to take. I'll donate clothes later to Goodwill. I have had to pace myself, often going into survival mode where all I do is what is absolutely necessary to sustain life and pay my bills. Hope you feel better and things are less frustrating. Frustration is my middle name. :)

The sky is a pale orange and it will likely be a beautiful sunrise and a Technicolor day. I don't know whether any of y'all ever feel as though something is so beautiful that it breaks your heart. I don't know how else to describe the feeling but the long shadows yesterday afternoon evoked that feeling in me. I'm off to read the paper. Hope everydobby has a wonderful start to the day, feeling pain free and chipper.

Love, Mikie

Mikie: nice of you to give your X the benefit of the doubt concerning WhY he didn't give the watch. Seems to me if he was feeling good enough to meet for breakfast and sit there he would have remembered it. Yes, I guess it would be a way to get back at YOU again, now that he's in control of the watch, as to when and where he would give it.

No, I'm not pain free and chipper, I knew all that work would do me in, BUT I felt like celebrating when I woke 6 hrs. Later at 4, having slept all that time without having to hit the bathroom. That's the thing about this chemo, BAD bladder irritation that usually takes a good 2 weeks to totally settle down. And my neck and back are really hurting so I'm up with the coffee thing again.

Yes, about the sky at times........the color or spectacular show that's going on in the sky does make me feel like I'm overwhelmed with emotions.....I guess that's a sign of an artist. I usually stop and pray and thank God for this amazing show he's putting on. I remember once when we were in Las Vegas and had come out of a casino around dusk, and the sky was unbelievable.......a blend of mocha, blues, pinks, oranges. I've never seen a sky that blend again and what got me is it had stopped me in my tracks and yet hundreds of people were scurrying like ants, and no one was bothering to look up......including my DH. I think it might have been because it was the desert and wide open sky. And you're lucky living in Florida, and think the place for some of the best sunrises and sunsets. We have some pretty wonderful skies in the winter after a storm when the sky if full of clouds and dark blues and grey and spots of light blue peeking thru. I usually keep my camera handy so I can run out to enjoy it.

Yes, I watched the special on the Durrells.....an amazing family. I checked with the library and can't seem to locate any DVDs.....the library is closed today so going to call on tuesday.

Color does that to me when I'm having a good painting day. I love color and that's another reason I like to work in watercolor. You drop in color on a piece of plain wet paper, then drop another color to the side of it, then watch it as it does it's own thing, creeping into each other or spreading out to another part of white paper. With WC you can never totally recreate the same thing twice.

I have a hanging fluorescent light over my worktable in my studio which is flickering and going out. I absolutely cannot change it and will have to either wait until my DS can come over, or figure out something else. I'm debating if I trust my gardener enough to come into the house to do it for me. Will have to give that some thought. Or.....look around for some other work for my handyman to do and schedule him.

Hi, Sun,

I'm glad you slept but am sorry you are neither pain free nor chipper. I hope the bladder irritation is going away. You need your sleep. I'm feeling better after cooking some bacon and hash browns. Was going to have a couple of eggs but the bacon produced almost no grease. Doh! There is enough fat on it that it should have. It is delicious and I guess that's what counts. The most beautiful sunset I ever saw was through one of the huge windows at the Atlanta airport. It filled the sky with brilliant purples, oranges and pinks. A young kid was sitting on the window sill with his back to the sunset. He was engrossed in his computer and was missing one of God's masterpieces behind him. I give thanks for everything all day long. I have so much to be thankful for.

Does your fluorescent light replicate natural light? I would think it would distort colors. My kitchen had a big fluorescent light fixture that looked to me as though it belonged in a garage--builder grade. The first thing I did was hire Barb's DH to replace it with a fan and install canned lights around the edge. I also had him put a track light over the dining room table on the high pitch of the ceiling. There is still a small fluorescent fixture that lies on top of the kitchen cabinets and shines upward. Gives a dramatic effect to the small antiques that sit on top.

I hope you can finally get some decent rest and continue to heal. I think my breakfast is helping me. I've felt so anxious and fragile lately. I hate that! Feel better, Dear One.

Love, Mikie

Hi KIDS

jUST WOKE UP FROM A NAP. WHY IS THIS ALL CAPS? WAS HERE EARLIER. DIDN'T HAVE THE PEP TO POST. FOUND A MESSAGE FROM
SOMEBODY OR OTHER IN THE MAILBOS. MESSAGE BOARDS ARE GOING AWAY. WE WILL BE POSTING IN OUR MAIL BOX. SOUNDS LIKE IT WIL BE KINDA CROWDED IN THERE.

EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BETTING MORE AND MORE RESTRICTIVE. YOUTUBE IS GONNA CHARGE US. YOU HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT
THAT SAYS THEY CAN CHANGE THE CONTRACT WHENEVER THEY LIKE. iN OTHER WORDS, THE CONTRACT ISN'T REALLY A CONTRACT.

MIKIE, I LOVED BURNS AND ALLEN. USED TO LISTEN TO THEM ON THE RADIO AND LATER WATCHED THEIR TV SHOW. THEY ARE NOW AT
FOREST LAWN. IF YOU CHECK YOUTUBE YOU CAN SEE THEM DANCE WITH FRED ASTAIRE. IS YOUR X PLANNING A TRIP TO GERMANY?
THEN HE CAN HAVE THE WATCH ON THE RIVER RHINE.

SUN, I NEVER SEE SUNSETS OR THE MOON ANYMORE. TOO MANY BUILDINGS INCLUDING ALL THE SKYSCRAPERS. WE SEE THE MOST INTERESTING SKIES WHEN WE ARE DRIVING TOWARD PASADENA; OFTEN WITH SNOW ON THE MOUNTAINS. IS THERE A DATE WHEN YOUR TREATMENTS
ARE OVER, OF DOES IT DEPEND ON MORE TESTS?

GRANNI, YOU'RE RIGHT. THAT PUP SURE DID GROW. WONDER HOW MUCH HE WEIGHS IN THE SECOND PICTURE. THE SOLDIER SURE LOOKS
CHEERFUL. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE THAT. i DON'T REMEMBER EVER TASTING CORN BREAD. DON'T THINK I EVER HEARD OF
IT BEFORE. HOPE YOUR DSIL MAKES A QUICK RECOVERY.

JULIE, EVERYDOBBY AT OUR CASA IS IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE ALTHOUGH GORDON'S ARTHRITIS CONTINUES TO BOTHER HIM. HE WENT
TO A NEW DOCTOR RECENTLY. HASN'T SEEMED TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE THOUGH. i KNOW WHAT A PINATA IS. USED TO SEE THEM
HANGING FROM THE CEILING IN GROCERY STORES. DON'T KNOW WHAT THE SARAN WRAP GAME IS THOUGH. DOES IT INVOLVE
A MUMMY CASE?

DUCKIE, HOPE THINGS SLOW DOWN FOR YOU. IT TAKES TIME TO BE CREATIVE. ARE YOU STILL CREATING IN YOUR CAVE?

GONNA GO BACK TO BED AND READ TILL I FALL ASLEEP. HUGS ALL YOU NICE PEOPLE. ROCK

Hi Y'all.

Spring, I really like the picture of the serviceman and his dog! It gives me such a warm feeling, as if there is still hope for this world. You know, re books, you said you didn't want any medievals because too violent/gory. You might reconsider, and try Susanna Gregory's Matthew Bartholomew series. Set in the 1300's. Or better still, Peter Tremayne's Sister Fidelma series, set in the 600's. Problem with the latter series is the difficulty of remembering the ancient Gaelic character's names. ....

Julie, yes I got my persimmons picked until I almost fell down. SO HARD to pick!! Actually got a long stick and knocked them off, branches and all. Still more on the tree, but I think I might leave those for the wildlife.... Picked a ton of Jonathan apples. Apples everywhere this year. Never seen such a heavy fruiting before. Hey, may your lilac thrive and prosper --- we've got a couple --- white, purple, pink. Divine scent.

Mikie, we have a very simple cell phone. We keep it in the car for in town use (WE HAVE NO RECEPTION HERE). I have seen plenty of people who are addicted to their "smart phones". So be's it.
Yes, Veteran's Day, or Remembrance day if a Brit. Red poppies. Flander's Field. My G-pa served in WW1, and was badly wounded but survived. He was always making silly jokes, and my G-ma would call him a soppy date. Date, the fruit, that is....

Oh Sun! You have sure been doing a lot of cleaning! You and Mikie could become professional house cleaners if you were not ill, and, (sorry) younger! Our windows desperately need cleaning....duh! I keep putting it off. Pick fruit instead, and catch the dust rats with my hands. LOL! Oh, I see that you HAVE a house cleaner....albeit not so good. Do you give her a list of jobs to do, or what?

Duckie, so good to see you! Sorry for your trials and tribs., but so things be's. It sure looked like you had a good visit to New York! Was it your first time there? I've been there a handful of times. I remember seeing the Statue of Liberty from the ship I was on, coming in from England.

Rock, I love your posts! Sorry I can't think of anything much to say, except chins up, old fruit. Us old fruits tend to get softer as we age, eh wot?

Saw doc (new) last week. Labs. done. Got a phone call from the clinic and said was all okey-dokey, EXCEPT for low saline levels. The last doc told me the same thing... I'll follow-up with this new (new) doc. and see what he thinks about it. I understand that it can be the result of Lyme. It wouldn't suprise me .... been tick-bitten hundreds of times here in the woods. I had a huge bulls-eye rash a number of years ago before I had little, if any, knowledge of Lyme. So, maybe my M.E. is actually Lyme..... Picked a tick off me yesterday. Will demand that the new doc becomes Lyme literate!

Tired, tired, tired...
Love to Everybody, time to eat a persimmon.....

Rock: I love youtube but won't be paying a fee for it. As to the chemo, thursday is the last day of this round of them. I see the doc again in January for a "look see" with a scope. If there still isn't any cancer, then it will be another 3 rounds of them. I guess I'm living on the edge.

Feeling kinda sad lately.....My DD and SIL are now at that point of do they put down Savannah or can she live a little longer. She's peeing in the house and on the patio. I bonded with Savannah when she was a puppy, love her so much and have taken care of her when they went on trips. She still slowly comes to greet me when I come into their house. They have a vet appt. this afternoon to talk with the vet. I had recently read that aloe vera can help with urgent bladder, both for people and dogs. I sent them the link.

Hi, Kids,

What a frustrating day. UPS couldn't deliver my license plate holder because the label was messed up and they had no unit no. Costco tried to contact them to give them the right info but the package was considered undeliverable. Costco is refunding my credit card and I would have to reorder it. I don't think I will. These will get less expensive elsewhere and I'll pick one up down the road. I hate UPS. Have had problems with them before and their website is a mess to try to use. As frustrating as this is, and I've spent a lot of time getting it taken care of, I realize that, if this is the worst problem I have, I'm very lucky indeed. I talked to the customer service clerk's supervisor because she was so sweet and helpful. I like to do that when people are good at their jobs.

I didn't get out to look at Mercury in its trip across the face of the sun but that may be why there are problems with deliveries and communications. Mercury is the messenger in the Heavens. At least, my products from PH arrived safe and sound. I ordered sublingual liquid B-12 drops cause the little pills have the dreaded stearic acid. I also take liquid pregnenolone. Our carport is all clean and looks beautiful. My car is back in it's spot. Wish it were all clean.

I sent a text to DD and told her that her dad has a gift from both of us; I didn't tell her what it is. She called me and we had a nice chat. She is going to invite her dad to lunch for just the two of them. I hope he gives her the watch then. He's such a pain. I'm just glad I seldom have to deal with him. She was mighty impressed with my lab results. Thanks, Mom, for the good genes.

Called DOF today cause I haven't talked to him in ages. He fell twice in one day so is now in a wheelchair. His legs just give out on him. He's having a heck of a time learning how to get around in it. He's cheerful though and knows he'll get the hang of it.

Rock, love the watch on the river Rhine joke. He would never travel because all those people overseas speak other languages and use different money. Doh! Never could convince him that that's the reason to travel--encountering others and other countries that differ from us and ours. Going to sleep sounds mighty good to me. I think I'll have to take pain meds as the pain is worse. I tried to rest and hoped it would go away but it's obvious that it's not gonna do it. The arthritis in my hands and wrists has been killing me too. I know how Gordon feels. Enjoy your rest, my friend.

Barry, I use my phone for calling and texting but not much else. I can make changes to the watch with it. My old neighbor, Ilona, was addicted to her smart phone. It was miserable just trying to have a conversation with her. I love my tech but it serves my needs and I won't be a slave to it. The addiction is a common problem. I'm thinking we all get softer as we age, in many ways. I only clean my kitchen window and my sliders. All the rest are two stories up. Used to have a guy do it but they just get dirty again right away. The entire bldg. gets pressure washed when it's painted and, with today's paints, it's likely to be ten years in between paint jobs. Glad you weren't up on ladders trying to harvest the fruit. Mmmm, Jonathan apples--one of my favorites.

Sun, I am so sorry about Savannah. It's so hard to know when to let go. Most people I know say that, in hindsight, they hung on too long. When they finally let go, it was a kindness to the dog. We love them so much and they return that love unconditionally. I think DD is right that they are God's little angels on Earth here to help us. Is your chemo kind of a preventive treatment? As you know, I keep you in my prayers that the cancer doesn't return.

Thought I'd mention something kinda funny before I go. I got a catalog in the mail with all the junk one usually finds that older people like to order--bras, bedroom slippers and gadgets. Very bland stuff. Then, I turned a page and there were sex toys that I didn't even know existed and sex DVD's. OMG! One of the toys grossed me out so bad and I'm no prude. Good grief!

On that note, I'll bid all y'all adieu.

Love, Mikie

Update: I decided just to take a Motrin, a cup of coffee and a little bite of dark chocolate. That should help my pain. If it were earlier in the day, I might have taken an Oxycodone.

Barry: Do have one of those fruit pickers......a long pole with kinda a basket on the end and I think you pull a lever. I bought 6 for $5 of the fuju persimmons on saturday at the huge 2 day rummage sale held once a year near me. I'm having one of them with my lunch now. Was telling my DD and she reminded me that SIL's parents have a fuju and were giving away huge bags last year. I'm going there on sunday so maybe I'll get some from her.

About my housecleaner, she has been having shots and a few surgeries in her eye for macular degeneration......apparently this is quite common for little people. She also injured her shoulder in an auto accident a year ago AND has arthritis really bad along with FM. Still has ongoing lawsuit with this. Because of the eye problem she can't bend her head at times. But like I said I'm a terrible employer, and don't push her to do much aside from the vacuuming which i can't do. So that means I have to sit on a little stool and wash the baseboards or get into the corners of the bathrooms.

Mikie: Yes, it's maintenance chemo, and hopefully it will continue to work. That would be nice for your DD and X to have lunch together.

I stopped at Goodwill today, looking for a 12 x 16 frame with glass, which I found at $3.99. Perfect for something I want to hang in my refurbished bathroom. While there I got to talking to another lady in line who had some rolls of wallpaper in her cart. I asked what she was going to use it for. Turns out she had a fire in her kitchen. Started cooking rice for her little dog, walked outside and forgot about it....boy I'm famous for that. She looked inside her house and was wondering what was orange and black....fire! She said she put it out and then even went up in the attic to make sure it was OK. She looked to be about my age, lives alone with her little dog. You know how sometimes you just click with someone? Too bad I'm not around her someplace......I felt like we understood each other. Said she cooks up chicken, veggies, and rice daily for her little 20 year old dog. Told her I used to do that with Savannah and also our dog, Katie. With Katie I extended her life for at least another year or more. The vet had said she was very unhealthy and should be put down.

Hello, Dear Friends

Wish we had a real porch where we could while away the hours while conversing with the flowers.
I think the scarecrow sings that in the W O Oz. Ray Bolger was asked in an interview if the cast got
residuals when the movie was on TV. He smiled and said, "No, but we got immortality"

Oh yeah, did you see the article on what the stars get in the way of residuals. It is incredible. I wrote
down a bunch of figures but with everything I write down, it immediately vanishes. The only
one I remember is "Friends". The four principals each get 20 million a year.

Today we've had a marathon of NCIS. All of the episodes included veterans. There was also a funeral at Arlington. Once the home and property of Robert E. Lee, the government confiscated it when
he chose to fight with Virginia against the Union.

Sun, yes it's terrible sad when we lose a beloved pet. Gordon and I have never had to do that.
And now we're too old and decrepit. Couldn't walk a dog. Well, Gordon might, but for how long.
I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable sum to Youtube, but I'm not signing up with their announced
plan. I hope the January exam is all good news.

Mikie, there used to be a joke. Something like "Now that I'm old, these two men keep pestering
me. One is Arthuritis and the other is ___________. Can't remember.

Barry, you don't have to say anything. Just let your natural glow speak for itself. BTW, did you know

"

mACHINE IS ACTING UP. hUGS, kIDS rOCK

Hi guys! Just stopped in a bit to see how everyone was doing. Took Den out for breakfast (veteran's eat free at several places...we went to a deli at a grocery store.) The kids wanted to leave early in the morning, but they are having sleet right now and may have to wait till the ice is off the roads before they take off. I have a few things to do yet, but lots of stuff can be done while they're here...just playing it by ear.

Can't stay, but thought I'd try to find this for Rock...it's from Dear Abby...

Old Folks Are Worth A Fortune

Old folks are worth a fortune: With silver in their hair, gold in their teeth, stones in their kidneys, lead in their feet and gas in their stomachs.

I have become a lot more social with the passing of the years; some might even call me a frivolous old gal. I'm seeing five gentlemen every day.

As soon as I wake, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then I go to see John. Then Charley Horse comes along, and when he is here he takes a lot of my time and attention. When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. (He doesn't like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint.) After such a busy day, I'm really tired and glad to go to bed - with Ben Gay. What a life!

P.S. The preacher came to call the other day. He said that at my age, I should be thinking about the hereafter. I told him I do - all the time. No matter where I am - in the parlor, upstairs in the kitchen or down in the basement - I ask myself, "Now, what am I here after?"

Hope everyone is doing okay...I'll be off the computer most of the week, I'm sure. Take care.

Good Tuesday Morning, Kids,

Slept almost ten hours last night but am still exhausted. I hope this is just a flare and not my conditions' moving into a worsened state. My friend, Barb, is still going over to the pool at 8:00 despite the cooler mornings. Claudia likes to go later and, now that it's cooler out and with the time change, I think I'll suggest to her that we go at 9:00. She only goes over on Tuesdays. It's up to Barb whether she continues at 8:00. She is a very nice person but isn't as warm as Claudia and Nancy. Don't think our acquaintance will ever move into the deeper friendship I enjoy with others.

I will come home to rest and get into the shower because I have that Highway Robbery Party to go to tonight. Whether the stuff is on sale will determine what I buy. I keep telling myself that this is really a donation to a friend's daughter who has provided us with parties all these years and seems to be in need right now. I'll, at least, get a new wallet and possibly a tote bag in the process. Just hope I can stay awake.

Sun, my old friend, Joan, used to have those shots in her eye. I sometimes drove her there and picked her up when she got them. Other friends in the hood did the same. Does your friend help clean the baths? I can vacuum but it kills me and that's why I have the Roomba. What will she do if it gets to where she can't continue to work? Perhaps the settlement will allow her to retire. Too bad the woman you met doesn't have an Instant Pot. You set it to cook rice and everything else is automatic and it can't catch fire. I think we need all the help we can get to manage our chores and stay safe. Have you heard from the kids about Savannah's vet appt.? Whatever they decide, I hope it's best for everyone, especially Savannah.

Rock, I think that was the Scarecrow singing, If I Only Had A Brain. When I'm with my kids and someone on TV says something stupid, it happens all the time, I'll sing that. Happens so often I could get hoarse. Hoarse of another color! Or off color! Oh, the puns just keep tumbling out of me. Sorry your beast is acting up; hope you come back.

Julie, thanks for posting that hilarious bit from Dear Abby. Sooo funny. DOF talked about the snow in Chicago and Nancy sent a pic of the snow on her deck up in MI. It won't be long before the snow plow guy will hit Nancy's mailbox and tear it out of the ground. They can't use mailboxes which would hurt the blade when the guy hits them. Good grief! Nancy can't get her mail when he destroys the box and she doesn't get mail unless she goes out and clears the snow the plow driver piles in front of it. OK, another reason I'm glad to live where I do. I hope the kids got home safe and sound.

I need to clean out the freezer and fridge and change out the water filter in it. Don't think it'll get done today. I really have to pace myself right now. Also, I want to get out in the front to work on the bushes and plantings. I need to go to Lowe's or Home Depot to look at some lantana. It is beautiful and seems to do better in the stairwell atria. It doesn't spread like wildfire and is colorful. I'm off to read the bad news. Hope all y'all have a great day.

Love, Mikie

HI KIDS! TOOK ME AWHILE TO FIND WHERE WE ARE POSTING.

JULIE, AREN'T YOU SWEET! IT MUST HAVE BEEN CHARLEY HORSE OR BEN GAY I WAS TRYING TO RECALL. GEE, I REMEMBER READING DEAR
ABBY AND HER SISTER'S COLUMN. SISTER WAS ANN LANDERS. IRONICALLY THEY DID NOT GET ALONG, BUT THEY STILL HAD ADVICE FOR
OTHER SIBLINGS. WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. ABBY'S COLUMN WAS FUNNIER; SHE HAD SNAPIER RESPONSES.. THEY ALSO WROTE
BOOKS. MAYBE I'LL SEE IF THE LIBRARY STILL HAS SOME.

THE PREACHER IN THE PARLOR. SOUNDS LIKE A TITLE FROM SOME DECADES PAST. THAT'S GREAT THAT DEN GOT A FREE BREAKFAST.
OUR VETERANS SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN OR NEGLECTED.

MIKIE, DON'T BE GREEDY. YOU CAN HAVE ONE OR THE OTHER. DEEPER WATER OR DEEPER FRIENDSHIP. SOMETIMES IN THIS LIFE ONE
CAN'T HAVE EITHER. IF YOU LIKE RAY BOLGER'S ACROBATIC DANCING, THERE ARE SEVERAL EXAMPLES ON YOU TUBE. OH YEAH, DID
YOU GET ANY INFO ABOUT NOT POSTING ON A MESSAGE BOARD BUT IN YOUR MAIL BOX? GORDON WANTED ME TO ASK YOU.

BARRY, DID YOU KNOW "EH WOT" IS AN ANAGRAM FOR TOW HE? I THINK THERE'S A BIRD WITH A NAME LIKE THAT. YOU PROBABLY
KNOW. IS EVERYTHING HUNKY DORY ON TOP OF YOUR MOUNTAIN?

SUN, I USED TO GO TO THRIFT SHOPS ALL THE TIME. GREAT PLACES TO BUY BOOKS OR RECORDS. EVEN BOUGHT SOME SHIRTS THERE.
THE SHIRTS WERE NEW AND HAD BEEN DONATED BY A STORE. AND I BOUGHT A LARGE HIDDEN IMAGE PICTURE. A DECADE OR SO
LATER WE MOVED AND I GAVE THE PICTURE BACK TO THE STORE. I LOVED THOSE HIDDEN IMAGES BOOKS. I THINK I HAVE ONE OR TWO
LEFT IN THE STORAGE ROOM. NOW IT'S BEEN YEARS SINCE I'VE BEEN TO A THRIFT SHOP.

FUNNY HOW SOME THINGS ARE PART OF OUR LIVES AND THEN SUDDENLY THEY AREN'T. WE USED TO PLAY IN BRIDGE TOURNAMENTS
EVERY WEEK FOR TEN YEARS OR SO. NOW WE DON'T PLAY AT ALL. DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION BRIDGE WAS EXTREMELY
POPULAR SINCE YOU COULD INVITE FRIENDS OVER WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY.

WELL, IT'S 4:30 OR SOME SUCH. GUESS I'LL GO BACK TO BED AND READ FOR A BIT.

HUGS, EVERYDOBBY

Hi, Kids,

Home again, home again all pruned up. I went over at 8:30 so I could see Barb for a bit. Claudia came at 9:00 and I stayed til 10:15 with her. Good grief. I came home and took a Motrin. Hope it helps. Last week, my legs killed me for days. I'm not gonna shampoo my hair today. It's good enough to go to the party tonight for 45 minutes. Claudia wants to be home in time to play FJ. We will get there early, buy whatever we are gonna buy and get out. I have a new animal print soft jacket I'll wear over a black tee and white Capri pants. My animal print watch band will even match. Heck, I could change the watch face to a leopard. Maybe I will. Why not have fun with things. I'm gonna go online and pick out what I'm going to buy so I'll be ready. Don't think I'm gonna get outta this cheap.

We ran into Larry, my neighbor across the street who let me and Joe stay there after the hurricane. He was ranting and venting but we all laughed too. He keeps saying we are gonna sit down with some Jack Daniels and talk. He's a good guy! Gonna rest all day so I can hopefully stay awake tonight. I think the liquid B-12 I took before bedtime is what allowed me to sleep so long. I do feel better today.

Rock, hmmm, all I can think of is that still waters run deep. I count all my friends as blessings but some friendships are deeper and more meaningful than others. Not only were Ann and Abbey sisters but they were identical twins. They talked funny and Saturday Night Live used to do parodies of them. I am an old peacenik but I have so much love and respect for our military men and women. I didn't get any kind of notice about posting on message boards. How did the message arrive? Was it a message in your mailbox here or did it come through email? PH just did all the upgrade to the boards so I can't image they would do away with them. If you can, have Gordon forward the message to me.

OK, gonna get going and watch the noon news. I texted my ex to see whether he got the check for my half of the watch. Said he hadn't been to the mailbox in a week. I hope he's okay. I don't know how many times he's been to the ER this last year. Most of what is wrong is of his own doing. I just want DD to get her watch. Hope all y'all are having a great day. It was absolutely gorgeous at the pool and is another Technicolor day. I feel for those in the path of those snowstorms. Yikes!

Love, Mikie

Update: OK, I've narrowed it down to two different styles of totes and a wallet to match. There is a very classic black and white plaid that I can have monogrammed in Red with my Initials or a beautiful tropical print. I'm actually getting excited about it and look forward to the party and getting something new.
