HAPPY MAY DAY!

Good May Day (Friday) Morning, Dear Porchies,

This reminds me of the baskets my friends and I made and gave to each other on May Day every year when we were kids. We also made them for the old people in the hood and hung them on their doorknobs. Another quaint practice that's probably gone by the by.

Please go back to read the last posts on Porch 1195. Rock posted.

Rock, I know the Kindle takes a bit of getting used to but I, and most people I know, love using the Kindles to read. There are a ton of books you can download instantly from libraries or Amazon. Many on Amazon are dirt cheap to buy. I'm sure many books are on hold from libraries right now for e-readers. I hope libraries will be open soon but, in the meantime, I hope you can find something to read. Gordon has worked heroically to get the Kindle set up because there were a few glitches. I've always said he is a keeper! Glad Miss Kitty is happy and well. As much of a pain as SV can be, and as expensive he has been, he is a real blessing in my life. Right now, he is clawing at the little scratch pad in the middle of one of his track ball games. He just batted the ball around the track on the edge. That's how he keeps his batting arm in shape. Sounds as though all is well there. Good to see you back on the Porch.

So nice to wake to neat polished nails and soft skin. I sanded the dead skin off of my heels and wore some skin repair lotion to bed last night. Everything is sooo dry. I have alligator skin. AACCKK! Today I will shampoo my hair. I want to get outside because today is sposda be a beautiful day with no rain. We got a lot of rain yesterday, a real blessing. Speaking of blessings--you Porchies are a blessing in my life. I hope all y'all have a good day.

Love, Mikie

Aah, a nice hot shower and my hair blown dry. I'll style it and spray it in a few minutes. Standing while I dry it makes my sciatica hurt. Joe came over to sit for a few minutes earlier. He feels awful; I think it's a sinus inflammation or a virus. His head is all stuffed up. He's a bit down in the dumps because he doesn't feel well. Wish I could help him but I think it helps just to sit out in the fresh air and talk. He is exhausted and doesn't feel like doing anything. Welcome to my world.

Just got back from Publix. Got more than I had intended to but they had big bags of shrimp on sale. I can always make something with them. I love seafood Alfredo over penne pasta. Most people had on masks but a few didn't and one big guy (why is it always a big guy?) was plowing his way through not respecting any distance at all. I guess if one is a jerk in normal times, one is a jerk all the time. One woman had on no mask and came the wrong direction dancing down the aisle, literally dancing, and looking at her phone. She went out with her cart into the parking lot still reading her phone.

There were some paper products but I don't need any. I just always check to see whether shortages continue. There were no wipes available. I found some gel cap ibuprophen that has no stearates and there was a $2 coupon. Woo Hoo! I got four chicken tenders at the deli and they are sooo good. Gonna rest because the sciatica keeps stabbing me in the back and hip. It's agonizing. I need to do some stretches. Check out the pic of the sleeping kitty I posted over on the Homebound Board.

Greetings to All. Today was a quiet day. I helped Gordoni weed the garden. The
tomatoes are still not ripe. The cat is happy with a new brand of kibble. I'm resisting
the new reader that Gordon bought. Gordon thinks I might be able to master it in
the next century. In the meantime most of the books available are already on hold by
other library patrons. Will try to think of some old favorites; see if their books are
available.

Hugs and etc.

Rock/Gordon: Here’s a link I got from the library’s overdrive. What I can see, is there are many that can be checked out now.

it’s my younger son’s BD today.....45. I’m going to call him later and see what they’re doing. They have been going to the arboretum several times a week to let the girls run around. He did say they have now closed off the far off trails and there’s only 1 restroom open. I think I did too much work on a painting yesterday and my neck/back are screaming, so will have find something else to occupy myself today. It’s cooler this morning but supposed to get up to around 85 today. I have flowers appearing on my green bean plants. Lots of little tomatoes but nothing red yet. I’m careful to zip up the greenhouse every night to keep the critters away from snacking.

and I’m having an AWFUL time with flies! Every afternoon I kill about 6-8 which are on the sliding doors Trying to get out! I’m careful not to leave a door open, I’m checking the houseplant dirt too, and of course the pantry and trash can and can nothing. Yesterday I even wondered if a rat had gotten up in the attic and died....put in a call to the exterminator guy yesterday but no return call&^%$#. Last summer the same thing happened, but in January when I had the exterminator they did find a dead rat up there. I’m so frustrated......walk around every afternoon looking for flies with the fly shatter in hand. I think in the last 2 weeks I’ve killed over 30.

Hi, Kids,

DD just called. She finished one final and is working on two more. Everything is, of course, being done online. This is the CAD stuff and it sounds like it is a huge amount of work. She has decided not to go to summer school; she needs a break. One of her friends works as a nurse staffing hospitals all over. She has sent 400 nurses to NYC. One of them died of a heart attack in the restroom. She was apparently healthy but dropped of a heart attack at age 41. Don't know whether she had the virus and didn't know it or had a bad heart. The healthcare men and women are true heroes.

DD is still having problems with her lungs. Doc thinks she may have had the virus. They think her lungs may have been damaged. Like here, the allergies there are bad. They are treating her with inhalers but they aren't helping that much. I told her I'd ask my friends here to pray for her. She has been praying for GB. I was praying for her neighbor who had been on a ventilator and he is recovering and feels really well. Prayer is something we can do for one another. Thank you to anyone who prays for my DD.

Sun, I hope you can find the source of the flies. I'm wondering whether another critter died up in the attic and the maggots hatched into flies. In any case, I hope you can get it taken care of. Happy birthday to your DS. It can't be easy keeping kids entertained right now. It's good they are getting outside. I'm sorry your neck is hurting. Almost feel as though anything we do anymore is painful. I will pray you feel better.

I gotta go do some stretches for my sciatica. Hope all y'all are having the best day possible.

Love, Mikie

Mikie: Thanks for the prayers. I’m very sorry to read that your DD is still having trouble with her lungs. I’ll pray for her. It’s been about 5 years now that at first my doc said I probably had asthma, gave me an inhaler which did nothing to help. Still out of breath when I did anything out of taking it easy. So then I was sent for all the evaluation tests at the hospital, including getting into a chamber where there is no air.....they see how long you can last! After all of it, the lung specialist said scarred lungs, specifically bronchiectasis. I had double pneumonia when my DGD was born 12 years ago And so many times of bronchitis I just assumed everyone got this. This is actually what the covid19 people experience.......scarring of their lungs. Ask her if her breathing is hard after any physical exercise. And I’m assuming she has an oxymeter that she checks her oxygen level. It has to stay up in the 90s.....bad if it drops down below 90. And of course, it‘s connected to your heart. When I first realized I had problems I was told by a friend to buy an oxymeter and check while walking. OMG....my HR was up around 180 BPM. The heart beats faster to help raise the oxygen level. I also have some heart problems though don’t take meds for it.

talked to my DS this morning. His treat today is my older DGD, age almost 6, is making a lemon cake for him and they’re going to get fried chicken takeout. He told me the tickets for the arboretum were all sold out already when he checked.....that’s because of warm weather and people want to go someplace.

I’m highly annoyed the exterminator guy hasn’t returned my call. Probably because it doesn’t mean any new $ for him to make off me. HA....not going to recommend him to anyone anymore. When I had the attic all cleaned out and the live rat was killed and the dead ones removed, they repaired all the places around the house where they could get in.....now I’m wondering if they missed some place.

H Awl,

Not to much new here. Did some weeding and removing dead stuff from the front bed. Doesn't look very good right now but it is a little better. Had lunch and did a wash and folded it so I hopefully wouldn't have to do it after dinner tonight. I fixed stuffed peppers so that when we get back from sitting later at DD;s I will just have to pop it in the oven.,

MIKIE - Sorry your DD is still having problems with her breathing. Knock on wood, I hope I never have that problem considering all the bronchitis and URI's, and pneumonia I have had. Glad you got your hair all done. I should do it tonight but I probably won't as I am pooped and I really need a haircut too so it takes more time. Yes, I have also been thinking about poor GB and family. I cannot imagine going through something like that and losing your home in a blink of an eye,

SUN - Glad to see you here again. Sorry for your neck and shoulders. I know you don"t have to do much to cause more pain .. Also hope you get rid of those flies soon and that your exterminator gets there soon to help you with the problem.

ROCK - Hang in there my friend with that KINDLE. It takes awhile for all of us esp us that are not so technical. However, DH LOVES his but it took him a little bit of time too. Luckily also you have Gordon thee to help you. They are very light though and handy. Get a cover for it. They are pretty sturdy.

THINKING of everydobby, inc all our MIA's!
Love,
Granni :)

Mikie - we used write our prayers on slips and put it into a bowl during meditations at the centre..then everyone would bless the prayers...i like your prayer box...i hope GB is well, or well as can be..i will pray for your DD, and Joe..i did include DDs neighbour and your neighbour in my general prayers i do for everyone, the list has grown so long...will prolly have to start writing down now.

Does Joe wear a mask? Mightnt be a good idea to sit too close or for him to visit. Until this pandemic is over.

How are you going to cook your chicken tenders? what spices doyou use?

Rock - i know everyone feels happy when they see your post. Although we understand when you dont. I should have been weeding, although the word weed doesnt describe the jungle that is there now after the rains.

Today my DD made some really tasty tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes.

Gordon - its been wonderful having you post and hear all the plant news and other things, i hope you will continue to drop in.

Sun - i swat flies everyday...even though we live high up from ground level, they fly in through the main door and up the stairs. But most come through the window. So i try to keep them closed. i have a couple of fly swatters at the ready.

im extremely sensitive and feel bad around those huge flies which sometimes come in. They seem to give off an unpleasant vibe.
We Buddhists arent supposed to kill anything but i decided there must be an exception to this rule when it endangers people.

good call on not joining the group at the beach.

Granni - ive never made stuffed peppers..or stuffed anything. seems like more work.

The sun played hookey today...hung out bedsheets to dry and took them back in when it started raining.

The poor vegetable sellers hawking their wares in baskets tied to their biycles are having a hard time in the rain. inI wanted to buy a watermelon or papaya just to help out but was too weighted down with other shopping. They are migrant workers from the Indian border to our south and live on their day to day meagre earnings.

Today we had the first mangoes of the season. Its very early for them. The supermarket must have gotten them from outside.

Hi, Kids,

I think the new neighbors arrived next door. I left a 'Welcome To The Neighborhood' note and left my phone no. if they need anything. I had hoped to throw out the ratty welcome mat that Jimmy and Cynthia left behind but I missed my opportunity. Joe saw the doc about how he's feeling. The doc increased his BP med dose and the one for his acid reflux. I'm glad he upped the BP med because Joe's BP is too high. I just called to tell him to be careful after the increase because it can leave a person feeling a bit lightheaded. Doc's never tell people these things.

Sun, thanks for the prayers. We all had years of bronchitis, sinusitis, asthma and pneumonia while living in CO. It doesn't surprise me that DD's lungs are giving her problems. I'll let her know about the oxymeter. Yes, she has been out of breath since being sick. I am too. We both have to wonder about the flu we had. It could have just been the regular flu but, now that there are more tests, lots more people are testing pos. That breathing test sounds barbaric. I would panic. Again, good luck with everything.

Granni, you know how I hate to do my hair. I've gotten even worse now that I don't see anyone. It really doesn't look that bad when I let it go. I put on some eye makeup when I went to the store but no foundation. It would get all over my mask. Considering that it covers most of the bottom of my face, it really doesn't matter. So glad you get to sit with the kids. DD called me today and we laughed a lot. That really helps. Glad I have Joe here to laugh with too.

Spring, thank you so much for the prayers. DD's neighbor is doing great. He's in rehab because he was in an induced coma while on the ventilator. Sposda recover completely. The Bible and other sources mention writing prayers down and putting them in a box. Seems to work better. Don't know why I got away from that. Yes, the list grows long. DSIL flew with a guy whose house burned down. He said it was the best thing that ever happened. They had wanted to sell and move. They got a bundle from the insurance co. and then sold the lot the house was on for more. They enjoyed starting over. I doubt very many people have that experience though. Thanks again for your prayers. I keep you and all our Porchies and our families in my prayers.

Claudia just sent cute pic of her DD in her mask. She lives in CO and works at the library in a small town north of Denver. She looks so cute in her mask. I remember her when she was just a kid and used to bake cookies for all the older people in the hood including my Mom.

I am keeping everyone in the country in my prayers as states start to open up a bit. I know more people will get sick under any circumstances and I hope we don't start having a huge jump in the number of them. I also have been praying for all those who are in dire financial circumstances. So many people and companies have opened up and helped out. Bless them.

OK, time for the evening news and soon after that, Jeopardy. The shadows grow long so I bid y'all a good evening.

Love, Mikie

sun, i found out what Libby was. it's a simpler version of the county's e-book overdrive library system. i got a email from the l.a. public library regarding their simplyE system. spent most of the late morning trying to get this app with amazon app store(another long story with amazon) i found out this was also a simpler version of the same overdrive system. moot. what a waste of time but what else is there to do. these days. the librarian help me return the unwanted books.

spent the early morning weeding and cutting overgrown branches from the neighbor's trees and bougainvillea(i HATE these with a passion untold). with help from rock we managed to get most of the cuttings into the trash bin. there's more to be done as with all the rain we've had it has given growth to many weeds. watering the patch of earth to prepare it so i can plant my chinese long beans for the year. will put up a simplier support for them to grow on. this year as i'm late with their planting. found two ripe tomato but bugs have eaten part of it.

now i'm going to get into bed and trying reading and get some rest before dinner.

later,

Good Saturday Morning, Kids,

Got enough sleep last night but woke early so read on the Kindle until I wanted my breakfast. Had some cereal with beautiful red raspberries. Loves me my berries! CBS has announced the return of Sunday Night Movies. After all the singing and dancing competition shows that I hate, I'm looking forward to it. That I hate those shows is just another sign I'm an old fogie. I also hate that game show that Ellen does. I think it's mean and now people who have worked for her are saying she is mean. There is almost nothing I hate more than people who are mean to their employees. But, I digress...

Gordon, you are a tech warrior. It isn't easy navigating through applications, especially with a new device. Good for you! Our bougainvillea by the pool is gorgeous but I don't have to care for it. Hope the garden produces big time.

I have to take my recycle stuff and garbage down to the dumpster this morning. The garbage stinks! Hope I have the NRG to do more than that. Hope everyone has a great start to the weekend.

Love, Mikie

Gordon. Last year I spent $400 to have the neighbor’s overgrown podacarpus trimmed. The problem is it grows big on my side and hangs over the pool.....as it grows it develops large berries like an olive and they drop into my pool and clog up the pool sweep. My gardener couldn’t do it because of how close it was to the pool and block wall. When I had it trimmed one guy had to climb into the large tree on the other side and cut from way up there. *&^%$#@. Sheered to the property line. People should think how whatever they plant will affect neighbors yards. When we moved here 35 years ago there was a pine tree close to the house. It grew and grew and started to break up the concrete by our house. So one night I heard a plumber over at the neighbors house....apparently roots in their sewer system. I thought OMG! How awful, thinking it was from our pine tree that we didn’t even plant. So we immediately had the tree cut down to a stump.

I did some fertilizing of my yard yesterday. I use fish base fertilizer in a spray jar. It helps make more fruit but OMG.....the stink from it for a couple of days!!!!

spring: I feel the same way about flies in the house.....very upsetting to me. Have you ever looked up a fly online and see a close up???? Ugh.

sun, had a similiar situation with my neighbor. there was a very large, multi branch yucca growing on her side of the property line. asked her if she would go in to have the plant uprooted as several large branch had grown over our side porch and the other branches were growing towards her roof. no, so i paid my gardner to trim and haul the branches over the porch.

2 years later she saw the problem and had the whole thing taken down. stupid woman. she wants to live in a secret garden and has so much grass, vines, trees - all overgrown in her back yard. leaves, vines, grass seeds, and branches all gets into our yard.
enough talk of her or i'll start seeing red.

Good afternoon awl,

It is a pretty sunny and warm day today. Did a little weeding and trying to get rid of some Monkey Grass from our front yard which is all over the place. Any ideas on how to get rid of it. Cannot always get it out by the roots and we have so much of it everywhere and it takes over. We are also trying to remove all the dead stuff in our property little by little.

SUN - Sorry about all those berries from your neighbors tree falling into your pool. Actually, the people who own the property should be the ones taking care of it but not always so. Yes, and sometimes the people on their property are not the ones who planted it, which is another situation, like your pine tree.. You also shouldn't have had to pay that to have the tree trimmed . Maybe you could have both contributed which sometimes happens. However, sometimes the owner of the tree or fence does not want to pay anything. Hope you are feeling pretty well and enjoying your painting since you can't go to to many places, or should now. Do you ever use your pool at all? It might be helpful for some of your aches and pains. We never had one. I would have liked one but DH said to much upkeep and of course now where we are we cannot have one anyway. To much trouble for me to even go to to the community pool. Not sure if it is open now anyway.

MIKIE - Glad you had a good sleep. Hope you feel batter after having it. If you wake up to early too that is sometimes not to good too. You can't always win. Looks like it is time for me to wash my hair tonight.

Hi To Gordon/Rock, Barry, Spring. Julie, Willow and all our many MIA's.

Love,

Hi Everyone,

It has been a quiet day here in SoCal. The temps have been nice and cool. It only got up to 81 with a light breeze. Just enough to stir up the pollen.

Last week I had about a dozen little pea plants a couple inches tall, the last time I looked which was yesterday they were buried under huge dirt mounds by the ants. I couldn't believe they wiped out my whole crop of shelling peas. I had only 4 plants come up in another location of the sugar pod peas. It is to hot for peas anyway so I will try again with my Chinese red long beans. and some others that you dry. I may put my wax beans in the front garden. They are small bush beans and they have pretty flowers so I don't think anyone will know that they are veg. I need to get used to the new soil and seasons here. Up north it doesn't get so hot so early in the season so I can grow my peas until June and then replace them with the beans. I think I may get some pots and grow a lot of my plants in them until I know what areas get enough sun and what soil needs amendments etc. The fatigue I experience prevents me from doing very much so I don't want what little I do undone by the little beasties. I thought the big mounds of dirt were gophers but nope, they are ants. I may go out and let the water run for a while and try to drown them out before planting again. The cost of the air pots is so expensive and I want to get plenty of zucchini, cucumbers and a few tomatoes. I want to put flowers across the back but the sprinklers there are broken and I can't drag a heavy hose and water so it will have to wait until the sprinklers are fixed. Fatigue is bad by itself but I am having trouble sleeping too. My Mom is my opposite, she falls asleep whenever she sits down and then will sleep all night. But at 95 I think she is entitled.

Did my Tai Chi this afternoon. I did warm up and cool down and sat and did lesson 1. I enjoyed it and so ordered the DVD. It was 30% off. I love a bargain.

I got my instacart order on Wednesday and the ice cream didn't have a plastic seal on it and it looked like someone had taken a spoonful. So we called corporate for the store and they are opening an investigation and sending us a $5 gift card.

Along with the fatigue I have terrible brain fog. It makes doing anything a challenge and adventure. A few years ago I forgot to put the brown sugar in the pumpkin pie and it was inedible unless you poured some blue agave syrup on it and then it was okay. I forget how to do a lot of things. My head doesn't feel fuzzy unless I am trying to do something. So many normals don't understand the fatigue or brain fog especially when you look normal.

The neighborhood cat hasn't been coming around anymore. She was getting fat around the middle so I think she was with kittens. I hope someone took her in or took her to the pound. I promised hubs i wouldn't get another cat so even though she would have moved in if we let her I couldn't do it. I had a cat named Angel several years ago, and she was the best cat ever. No other cat could ever live up to her. The last cat I had was named Sally and she was a she devil so I am turned off by cats now anyway. Their personalities can be so different and you don't know which one you have until it is too late. I imagine Tweety and Sally could have been twins in their behavior. Sally was black though. Sally would bite you if you stopped petting her, bite you if you didn't stop petting her, bite you if you ignored her or just bite you if she was in a bad mood. We had to take her in to get her nails cut. It took 3 people with the person holding her wearing leather gloves up to their shoulders. Angel I could lie her on her back in my lap and just cut her nails and she would just lie there. Everytime I sat down Angel would climb in my lap. Sally ignored me and only came out of hiding to nag us to feed her. My son said when he visited, "Your cat is cussing you out." That is what she sounded like. She was very vocal. We had her for 14 years and she didn't mellow with age. I loved her anyway but not like Angel.

I wished I had gotten a library card after moving here but never even thought of it until Mikie mentioned getting books at the library. Now it is too late the library is closed. I have almost 800 books on my ipad that I got from kindle. Most of them for free. I really like some of the cozy mysteries. Some of them are well reviewed but only free for a few days at a time. I have to check everyday to see what is available.

Granni- I don't know what Monkey grass is, up North we battled constantly with bermuda grass getting into the veg garden. It grows on runners and would go right under the wood boxes and come up inside the raised beds. Here it is regular lawn grass coming up in the brick raised beds. These grow by seeds. They are easier to pull up but they grow so fast. Hubs got a garden weasel to do the front beds after he cuts the lawn.

Must go, back is killing me from sitting in this chair.

Love Willow

Good Sunday Morning, Kids,

Woke early again this morning but read until I went back to sleep and slept another couple of hours. I feel better with the extra sleep. If only it would last. I forgot to look for distilled water at Publix and will need to get some today or tomorrow for my coffee maker. Publix was limiting gallon jugs of water to two per person. The next time I went, there was no distilled. Target sells it so can check them out too.
Sun & Grodon, we have had to spend tens of thousands cutting down trees the developer planted too close to foundations in our hood. It's a shame because they were mostly live oak trees which are beautiful. We still have them along the road out front of the entry. Sun, Hope your neck feels better. Gordon, hope you found some books for Rock.

Granni, I'm lucky in that our pool is right next to our bldg. Our hood isn't so big that there are too many people who use it. Right now it is closed but I think it will open soon. Community pools are opening in the county. Our beaches are open with cops patrolling to keep people from bunching up. I'm also lucky in that we have gardeners to do most of the grunge work but they aren't very good at anything else. I still have to do work outside by our bldg. Hope you aren't overdoing it working outside.

Willow, I didn't want any pets after my last cat died more than twenty years ago. I just couldn't refuse Jeff when he came over with chest pains thinking he might have another heart attack after a woman was yelling at him over the cats. He moved one block over and took Tweety back. I was ready to take her to the pound because she was peeing on everything. These cats lived outside for three years and she wasn't about to be penned up inside. She lives on Jeff's lanai because he is allergic to cats. SV would bite when I pet him because Jeff would fight with him, like wrestling. He wore a glove. SV liked it. It took a long time to break him of biting. Now, all I have to say is, "No biting," and he knows what I mean. He's a very sweet kitty for the most part now. He talks a lot and is polysyllabic. The sounds he makes are strange sometimes. I call it speaking in tongues. Our library is handing out and taking back books at the curb. I think it will open back up soon. I just got my monthly free book from Amazon Prime and got another book for $1.99 with the $3 coupon they offered. That's enough to keep me out of trouble for a bit.

Hope your brain fog is better. I was getting it and it was getting worse. It got so bad that one morning, I stood in front of the coffee maker and, while I knew what it was, I had no idea how to use it. Through a process of elimination, I figured out it was stearic acid in supplements and Rx pills. It's used in the manufacturing process. It's usually magnesium stearate or vegetable stearate. It isn't a fatty acid that occurs in nature; it is man made. The brain uses fatty acids to process but my brain can't function with a lot of it. I have to be very careful because it's in everything. There are some vitamins I get here that do not contain it. I get gel caps for my ibuprophen that do not contain it. I can't avoid it altogether but try to keep it to a minimum. I know I can't be the only person sensitive to it. I'm sorry about the ants. Hope you can get rid of them. I use Terro ant traps for all but the tiny sugar ants. We have a pest service here too. As always, it's good to see you on the Porch.

OK, I'm off to read the honest-to-goodness newspaper. Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Love, Mikie

Hi everyone,

yes, i've gotten rock to hold and turn pages on the kindle. got him a book on jimmy stewart and henry fonda - something he's alway interested in. next time i go up and ask how it's going he said i've finish the book. the kindle shows only 12% have been read. got him a thriller that he said was good. again he said he's finished the book - not. any mishap and he's lost with the device so i rearrange it for him.

i download a cozy mystery for myself to read while he's asleep. i decided to order another kindle - it was $30.00 more for the same thing. oh, well. also ordered a 'pillow' for him to used to hold the kindle up while reading.

finally repotted a very large orchid epi and it took over 45 minutes to get it out of the planter. made two pots with it and there was much more that i wasn't to repot. called both of my sister and a neighbor to see if they would like them.

two of the tomatoes ripen on the first set - one was partial eaten by bugs and the other one just turned to mush from the hot weather we've been having. there another set that are still green. will watch them more closely.

well, that's all that's happening on the farm.

Hello

i sat drinking tea and going through all the posts...then a mosquito started buzzing near my ear and i had to shift places.

Welcome to summer. Insects and all. The rain hasnt let it become very hot though.

The DDs friend cooked some Thai chicken curry and gave her a parcel of it. They have a pass so can drive some while delivering stuff, and she went a little distance to the supermarket and picked it up.

My DH said it needed more lemongrass, which made my DD splutter with laughter since DH hardly cooks.

She bought oyster mushrooms and made a curry and i made lentils and hash browns...just got this craving.

We put on music and exercised..its been very quiet...not much going on. i think of places where war is going on and thank heaven for wherever there is peace and whoever is able to live in peace.

Also for the food that we are able to put on the table. i saw a documentary about Nigerians and how they risk life and limb to get to Europe.

Gordon - happy Rock got a book he liked. i like cozy mysteries too.

Mikie - i find it funny when cats talk. Today i had burnt a block of incense...we get those..and after a while i saw one of the dogs had picked it up, taken it to his bed was gnawing it. It had gone off.

Theni i found my clothes scrubbing brush missing and one of the younger dogs was playing wirh it. it was a little mutilated but usable.

Hi y'all.
I am in a grumpy, down mood.
Good news: it rained yesterday! Bad news: it was less than an inch....:(

Granny, re Monkey Grass, google it and find way to get rid of it! Good luck! We have something I call crab grass that is impossible to get rid of. Like Willow's former Bermuda grass, it is a horrible thing to control. Also called devil's grass and couch grass and a buncha other names. Crawls underground and comes back from the slightest piece of root....

Willow, so nice to hear from you again! I am an avid gardener, but the CFS and other health problems (and age) have really let things go to pieces. I am going to concentrate on planting the huge pots I have. Been doing that for a few yyears now. Like to plant tomatoes, eggplant, frying peppers (Padrones), and summer squash, at least.
Sorry for your fatigue and pain Willow. Best wishes to you.

Gordon, sorry about Rock's trouble with the kindle, but maybe it will come to him. Re orchids: the three phalaenopsis (sp) I was planning to get rid of. TWO of them sent up new flower stalks and are now in bloom! Still not very showy though...
Richard bought a couple of Lobelias y'day and will plant them in a windowbox today. Hopefully.

Mikie, my cats speak in tongue too! Monty is the most vocal and always talks back. He has a number of nicknames too = Montecito, Monteverde, Montenegro, Montypython, Montalbano, and so on. Sylvie, the queen bee, speaks in purrs, hisses, and grumbles. Both are fat cats! Monty can be a pain. He is the "in and out cat" -- open any door and he will run in. Sylvie has taken to sleeping (after a huge purring spell) with me while I rest and read in the early afternoon. She snuggles right up against my chest. My comfort cat.

Tired, brain frogs, gonna sign off for the nonce.
Love and PEACE to ALL,
Barry

Hi, Kids,

Not much going on. I unloaded the DW and reloaded it. Did some dusting. I read the paper and did the puzzles. Feeling a bit down and anxious today. Joe called earlier and we had a few laughs, always a good thing to do. I just think this whole thing is getting to me and a lot of others too. I think a lot of it is not knowing how long it's going to continue or whether there will be a resurgence of infections. Earlier I left a bag with magazines and a snack treat for Claudia. I didn't get out of breath like I usually do when I walk over there. I feel better physically. Did some floor stretches for the sciatica. Just doing dibs 'n dabs of stuff around here. I feel directionless.

Gordon, Target has the Fire 7 Kindles on sale for something like $40. Check it out; you can always send the other one back. It was in our Target ad but it may be different on your coast. You can buy things online with Target. Do you know why Rock thinks he finished the books? When you finish a book, it goes to a black page where you can rate the book. I go back to the home page and get the finished book off the device. I just started a mystery myself. Hope you enjoy yours.

Barry, that's funny about the cats. SV and Tweety have the usual vocabulary but also have some different words they use from time to time. When SV speaks in tongues, it truly sounds like a foreign cat language. It isn't just different words; it's entirely different tones and sounds. When he does it, he usually says a lot. Glad you got some rain. It's a start. We still need a lot more rain too. For now, it's dry and the humidity is much less, always a plus. I love the nicknames. I have a lot of them for SV too, mostly derivatives of his name. I have some little made up nonsense words I say to him that he seems to like. One of his favorites is, Nacky-doo. We cat lovers are crazy. With dog lovers, crazy is an option.

Spring, mmmm, chicken curry sounds so good. I'm laughing just thinking about your DD's getting such a kick out of DH's critique. You have a really fun family. I haven't seen any mosquitoes yet this year but I'm not out at dusk. I think the love bugs are gone. Not that many this year. I should go do something but I don't know what. No ambition at all--none!

Gonna drag myself off this sofa and get a drink of water. Hope all y'all have a nice afternoon and evening.

Love, Mikie

Good Monday Morning, Kids,

Nothing new since I posted yesterday so will stop back in later.

It's later and still nothing much going on. I dropped a PM in the mail to Duckie just to let her know I haven't forgotten about her. I hope she is doing well. I hope her family is well too, especially her Mom.

Joe called and he still isn't feeling well but said he felt well last evening. Hope he is okay.

I have another mud dauber resident but he is building his nest between the window and screen on the kitchen window. These wasps aren't aggressive so will just let him go about his business. They will even build their nests on the screen on the lanai. Their nests are the dickens to get off surfaces after they abandon them. Evidently wasps are good for gardens; they eat insects.

I guess that doesn't include the new 'monster wasps' that are killing entire bee hives almost instantly. They are so huge their stingers go through the protective suits worn by bee keepers. I hope we can get this under control or our food supply will be even more threatened than from whatever was killing off hives prior to this. Okay, I'm not saying we are in the last days but we have a plague of locusts in Africa, a viral pandemic and now killer wasps. We need a break!

So on that note, I'll say good-bye. Been praying because we can all use it. Speaking of which--I am also keeping GB in my prayers. Hope everyone is having a good start to the week.

Love, Mikie
